while I admit to absolutely LOVING Depp and Bonham-Carter in Burton's version (Todd just seems so broken and insane, and I feel more sympathetic toward Mrs. Lovett; it's a good bit less comical, and I like that) I do love the stage version; the amazing actors do a wonderful job, and it always gives me chills, especially the last scene! Thanks for these posts

Mrs. Lovett es uno de los personajes de ''comedia àcida'' por asì decirlo, del que es fácil encariñarse. ella era sólo una niña que quería un hogar feliz...cuando la matan son segundos en los que no lo puedes creer. Me fascinan sus lineas finales...

Yo pienso lo mismo, pues vi esto antes que la peli y siempre me imagine que de repente los que ya habian muerto cantaran mientras la sangre seguia fluyendo de sus cuellos, incluso quienes se suponen ya habian terminado en un Pay. o ver como Mrs. Lovett aparece desde el horno ya calcinada.

pues a mi me gusto mas la peli... los personajes (sobre todo mrs lovett y johanna), las canciones, y el final... en la peli es mas poetico, mas como debia ser, sweeney logra su venganza muere abrazado a su amada lucy, y el y mrs lovett pagan por sus crimenes, y aunque sweeney nunca volvio a abrazar a su hija, la ayudo a ser libre junto con el hombre que la amaba y ella nunca se entero de lo que hizo su padre. bello, aunque triste.

Me gusta mucho mas este final, aca se muestra que Toby tiene algun trauma por el descubrimiento y que pierde un poco el equilibrio mental, detesto el porte desafiante que muestra en la pelicula, despues de todo era un mocoso. En esta version es mucho mas aceptable... ademas esta muy bueno que se levanten a cantar todos los muertos
si pobre niño, vivia en un hospicio, lo saca pirelli y lo maltrata y cuando por fin consigue un buen hogar con mrs lovett, descubre que hace pasteles de humano y acaba matando a un hombre...
jeje pos yo prefiero la cara de toby en la peli. Por k en el musical ves k al ver sangre y todo eso se vuelve loco, en cambio en la peli se ve lo k keria sondheim: la venganza engendra venganza. Toby mata a sweeney por venganza (no por un problema en la cabeza) con lo cual se hace un circulo vicioso.

there's something about this play, but mostly the last scene (from where anthony and sweeney make the plan), that i can only describe as "intense". that's the only adjective i can come up with.
my feelings toward it are impossible to describe, too. "love" isn't the right word, it's more like this feeling that's kind of like i really think it's amazing, and it terrified me in a way that i loved in a grim sort of way. i really can't explain it.
WTF ! Angela Lansbury scared me ! How did she come so quick ? A trapdoor... but this is really fast. Well, wierd yes...
The ending is cool... the one from the movie is tragic, haunting and focuses on Sweeney and his wife... but the ending of the play is also cool and a little scary ( the deads come back singing with the few living ).
Beautiful songs and good plot with good singers and actors... Amazing play, that's certain.
I Love the part when she appears. the music becomes peaceful, and so nice. It's interesting. She looks like an angel somehow, and helps more with the harp playing. xD
yea poor thing was traumatized...but I did like it better in the movie he was more angry than kookoo bananas...Sweeney killed the only person who was ever good to him so I dont blame him...at least Sweeney finally got some peace...

I doubt it. It was live theater, with a big audience. I don't think that for the directors benfit, they would stop the show to make this one effect. Maybe she came up through a trapdoor?
I just saw the movie and I didn't know what it was about really. All I really knew was baking people and Helena Bonham Carter was in it... but then she died, and man did she die. I love musicals and I'd pick one over the movie version any day, but when she got pushed into that oven in that movie... I was so shocked and freaked out! I was like WTF! My new favorite musical!
i like the whole story for both the movie and the play. but, in my opnion, i think johnny's voice made the music run better. sweeney in the play has a nice strong voice though, but it kinda cancelled out the music. but that's just my opinion.
um. amazing. i actually saw the movie first, and then i saw the play...regardless of which people say is "better" thank goodness there is still good art in the world, on both counts. an AMAZING play and a brilliant adaptation, hopefully the movie will help more people open their minds a little bit i'm totally blown away by BOTH

Her entrance just wasn't in the frame. She had plenty of time to walk in from off stage when they were doing the close-up of Sweeney.
