The Cayenne may not be a Wrangler or a Benz G, but it's certainly a capable off-road machine when equipped with the proper options and off-road tires. What is demonstrated in this video is evidence to the fact, for those who understand the mechanics of four-wheelin'.
@MacStimpfle Then what's the panamera for? I agree the cayenne isn't for really hard core off roading, but this kind of stuff, and typical off roading, then yes.
@MacStimpfle - The Cayennne is probably one of the most capable offroad vehicles that come off the showroom floor. Don't be biased just because it's a Porsche and it works so well on the road.
It has front to back traction-based locking and a rear locking differential. It can put the power where it needs to be and has a great adjustable suspension that lifts up for ALOT of clearance for a stock SUV. There is a reason it is expensive, it is a great SUV.
@123dodgecharger I agree with you 100% on that. I prefer the touareg over the cayenne, and there is no sense in a company haveing its sports car counterpart making a suv that competes in the same price range nearly as the VW. Im simply saying that the Porche and VW are 4x4, and our friend seems to think it is not. Technical data doesnt seem to interest him, so I gave up on him.
saw one of these try and drive on snow yesterday, BWAHAHAHAHAHA the guy was going at a snales pace pulling out of his driveway, rear end came round and nearly did a 360 spin and hit an iron fence. i couldnt do that in my Jeep Commander even while i was trying, traction control cut in and sorted everything out for me.
@dergangedchipmunk Driver and tire selection make up alot of this. Try driving in mud with street tires with a jeep. I have done it in the army during comparison evaluations. Tires and driver skills can ruin and capable offroad vehicles chances.
@dergangedchipmunk yeah, that was my point, tires and a drivers skill can affect the vehicle performance. Snow tires vs new all season alone make a HUGE difference. If anyone has never used snow tires, they are in for a huge shock when they do, its a major difference.
Porsche is just not an off road car. I was looking for a car and saw this one. Its made out of plastic! Front bumpers and all that. Yes, it makes it lighter to go faster but one small wrong move off road and it will wreck it. And I ended up buying the new 2010 Nissan Patrol. Good car, but not better than my LR3.
All of you people who talk shit and rather get a Jeep are a bunch if loser who never in their lives are gonna get the priveledge of owning one, if a jeep did do it faster who gives a fuck, id rather sit un the back of the cayenne on a leather seat listening to the Bose audio system enjoying the smooth ride, not sitting all sweaty on a fabric seat, with the shittiest ride ever!!! The cayenne is the best SUV ever, actually it would be rude to call it an SUV its its own category, supercar perform
@castorabc9 lol or should i just go ahead and by a cayenne and go "off roading in it" pahahaha. i bet i could find a mini van from a junk yard and get threw more stuff than that peace of wasted money

@htepplwhotakmyusrnme and if by off roading you mean take it to a race track then yeah, but that job should be given to the turbo, off road pretty much means getting off of ROADS!!!!
@castorabc9 hahahahaha you just made my point! "why would i take a porsche to do a red neck hobby, ill stick to racing fag" LOL. thank you for making my point for me :)
I'd love to see one of these try to match me in Colorado sometime, I'd be laughing my ass off seeing it get stuck, high centered or rolling over. If you want to go Off road get a Jeep not a grocery getter.
@PhrostBack Or laughing as your Colorado breaks down. The Colorado has to be the biggest POS Chevy has ever put out. Even worse if it's the 5cyclinder. :/

ppl always say the cayenne is for rich snobs when a teacher can afford one. hmm not so rich. rich ppl buy theb cuz the say PORSCHE and they have families. the cayenne was made for every1 its not a focused SUV
@MrLomeyer It is a 4WD but so are performace cars. This is a city car, a Nissan Patrol, LC200, Jeep Wrangler etc are real 4x4s. Just because it has power to all 4 wheels does not make it an actual 4x4 like how a pisol has rifling but it is not a rifle.
@1ohtaf1 its better than a 4x4 its awd with a computer that puts the traction where needed, bassically 4x4 on steroids because the traction technology is like every locker in one
@shawnheather323i AWD and 4x4 are not the same thing. I think that statement already illustrates that you are talking out your ass and dont understand off road. I spent 12 years in the Army Special Forces, so dont start with those childish comebacks that are rolling around in your mind. Do so research, then take your foot out of your mouth and apologize to the nice cayenne guys. I have the Touareg, but both are solid 4x4. True 4x4 btw.
@1ohtaf1 LOL you are pretty new if thats what you think. Its the same as the VW Touareg, and is one of the few TRUE 4x4. not some lame jeep that needs to have aftermarket lockers put on it.
@nokmuay1970 Just cause you people know nothing about cars and how to replace parts and get conned by the sales person that a porshe is better offroad then actuall 4x4...
@1ohtaf1 LOL dude, once again, I was army special forces and did trials on vehicles. Once you can actually understand what a TRUE 4x4 is it will be easier to explain it to you. Like I said before, keep doing aftermarkets to a vehicle and then tell me its a 4x4. Mine comes with all the stuff you are gonna try to add. And once you start adding crap to the vehicle to make it perform properly, is it really that vehicle that should claim the right, hell no, its aftermarket crap. go research plz
@nokmuay1970 Yep, and i have been on the moon constantly testing different vehicles in that environment, plus back here on earth and i can tell you that a stock vehicle is not going to beat an vehicle outfitted specifically for rough terrain. You are just believing too much bs and finding excuses why that vehicle that is so expensive is actually worse off-road then another car half its price.
@1ohtaf1 What I am saying is that the Touareg etc like others cayenne, LR etc are far more capable then you think they are, and that the jeep and crap like that is nto able to keep up. And once you put aftermarket on it, it really isnt the vehicle that earns the claim anymore. IE a ford f150 tricked out might be capable of doing tons of stuff, but its not the F150 that deserves the credit. The ford f150 Raptor now is stock and deserves the credit. do you follow?
@nokmuay1970 not really, put the same stuff on a toyota yaris and see if can do the same stuff as the 1/2 ton truck. Heck even see if it can do more stuff then before it had those things, it probably will be able to do LESS. you are just finding really idiotic reasons and excuses to justify the over blown price you payed for a fake 4x4, go to any 4x4 show and everyone will tell you a porshe is for looks and will laugh if you take it offroad.
@nokmuay1970 I belive they are more capable then what some people think but far less capable then what the manifactures claim let alone the price of it
@1ohtaf1 I paid less then 18k (Cdn) for mine and it had 3 year warranty still and only 50k kilometers on it.
I couldnt get a f150 for that price lol. and these are far more capable then 99% of the other 4x4 claimants. I say again go educate yourself pls, its not that hard to find the tech data bulletins
@1ohtaf1 lets agree to disagree as you are basing your opinion on opinion and mine is based on fact, and we cant seem to find common ground, so lets end it here. I wont bother replying to anymore of these nonesense posts. its obvious your mind was made up without ever taking a moment to educate yourself on the machine. Sorry, thats my 2 cents, you can keep the change.
@nokmuay1970 No you are actually arguing because you are defeding and making excuses for why you bought that car. The fact is on enjoyment side i am not going to critisize you because everyone is different, but what you are arguing is which is more valuable and practical and capable. The fact is that a porshe is not practical in any everyday driving including off road. Your "facts" are pulled out of your ass because apparently if i install a winch my car is not a toyota anymore... sure, "facts".
@nokmuay1970 And do you find it hard that NASA is better at testing equpitment for unique and extreame terrain that you have never seen? Ive been there.
@1ohtaf1 I own a touareg and bought it used for a steal. I dont think Im defending the price. I paid less then my jetta, but I can guarranttee that they are 4x4 full time. Hell just watch a video or read a terch report and you will see this. I have buried mine in mud to the headlights and drove out in 4hi, never had to change to 4lo or even use the locking option. They were designed for Africa you realize, and they are actually a military vehicle with various setups on them in German Army
@1ohtaf1 /sigh this is going no where. there is no actual proof that nasa has ever even landed on the moon. Only self produced documentation in a time when national pride was indanger of losing to the russian space program, which also has no proof. I still havent seen a telescope able to see the USA flag they say they put on the moon, did the martians come take it? We can see way off in the solar system, but cant see a flag on the moon? Either way this is pointless
@chimpyjet um if you want to go off road you could get the ultimate offroader for the same price an hummer h1 and it would kill the cayenne in a mud battle not even funny
@chimpyjet I live in a city that snows alot so a 4x4 is very usefull with is at least 5 months of winter. and that doesnt mean i am going to take a 100k suv to that type of terrein... get a cheap Jeep for that .
Actually only 1 jap suv could do that. The Land Cruiser because its the only one with height adjustment. A proper modern suv needs HA in addition to at least 2 locking diffs and a low range. Maybe 8 productions vehicles in the world have that and none of them are Chevy's, Fords, or Jeeps. (Technically you dont need HA to do that, so by this logic a school bus could do it too.)
What the hell do you need height adjustment for? Any truck with decent ground clearance and a limited slip or locker could do that. You clearly haven't ever driven off road, so your opinion on this matter must be disqualified. That section of dirt road would offer no challenge to nearly any stock SUV. Many Japanese SUVs are quite capable. Land Cruiser, Patrol, 4Runner, Sequoia, probably even a Pajero and Pathfinder with their IRS.
Without height adjustment, once you're beached- you need to call a Cayenne or a Rover. Unless you are in one, then you press one button and continue on.
really, height adjustmant don't mean shit, wh don't you make the damn truck with enough ground clearence in the first place? yes it is a smart thing but it is kind of pointless, and porsche did a good job for a companey origionally a racing companey but it is not the best, want a 4 wheel drive? Buy a fuckin bronco or silverods z71, dumb asses
You dont want max height all the time because you will eventually beach yourself, then youre screwed..Height adjustment is a little assurance for intelligent people that your vehicle will get you home by itself unlike a bronco or silvo. I've infact driven offroad in ALL these vehicle for a documentary movie I made about SUVs.
no not all the time, but no matter what it is a possibilite to get stuck, even with height adjustment, and your way less likely to get stuck when your a foot of the ground than when your 8 inches off the ground, plus, i doubt youv'e driven all of them, if you have you wouldn't be saying that, cause i've driven them all too, like i said, the height adjustment is a smart thing, but is kind of pointless, the cayenne would probalbly be better if porsche either raised the ride height and put
Pickups are probably the worst 4wd vehicles for offroading b/c of its inherent flaws: There's no weight in the back and the rear axles ground clearance is constantly changing. Big no, no's. The 'offroad' Cayenne is called the Transsyberia, named after the 5,000mi offroad rally. There's landcruisers, land rovers, suzukis, etc, but no pickups for reasons I highlighted.
Show us the proof! You are full of crap so I think it would be important for you to offer proof. Perhaps there are other reasons other than off road capabilities that keep trucks off those trails.
Sorry, you are a hate filled automotive idiot who seems to think your personal screwed up opinions somehow actually have any weight. You are completely pathetic!
worst vechels huh? and no weight in the back, ground clearence changing, those words just proved how much you know, they have the same suspensions, same divelines ect, the only difference is the body style, and the reason the used suvs is the fact that land rover, land cruiser, susuki, etc. don't make them, smart ass, and do some more research, trucks are used in rallys too, like for example the baja 5000 in mexico
The Baja has a pickup truck Class. Of course a pickup truck race will have pickups. Transsyberica however, is open to ANY vehicles off the assembly line. You'll find Toyota Land Cruisers but never Tacoma or Tundra pickups. You'll find Nissan Pathfinders, but never Titan pickups. And there's a very good reason for that. But onlypresto, judging by his grammar, being uneducated therefore rendering his opinions worthless, is not worth my time.
un educated? i hold a degree to uti, mmt, wyo tech, and own my own buisiness building racing motors, repairing cars, paintjobs, welding work, and i also manage all my buissiness financial matters, as well as running a farm, i'm in school to be a teacher, and i'm only 22. Also, my grammar is pefectly fine. I find that on a social networking site it does not matter, and it also doesn't matter veary much in real life unless you happen to work a job in a law firm, ad agengency ect. So fuck off.
proper of road wheels and tires on it, before when i drove my freinds x5 and cayenne when they were stock, things always broke on the some trail i drove my stock 2006 silverado z71 on with no problems, and i even drove it harder, but him and i have designed an axel and suspension set up that made them both adquet off roaders and are almost still as quick around a track as they were before, just with a slight bit more body roll, and a little less grip. I do this kind of stuff for a living too.
what the hell are you talking about, the Porsche cayenne has the best of both worlds. you talk about jeeps and other American made craps, but you don't realize that jeeps are only good for off road, the Porsche is an excellent sports car on road wit h near sport sedan handling and it is also amazing off road as you can see, now i bet a jeep cant keep up with a Porsche on road, who cares off road, people with Porsche's don't really care about off road performance that much, we like road power
What the hell are YOU talking about, every on from this planet know if you want the best of both worlds and you have the money you buy an Overfinch Range Rover.
Hate to say it, but 90+% of the jeeps out on the road would not be able to make that. Only a vehicle with one or more lockers or very good electronic 4wd control could.
Granted, for the cost of a Cayenne S you could buy a fleet of Rubicons which could easily do it. :p
Well, I learned they are 4x4 after all. I always wondered, but never got close enough to tell. I wish I had that kind of money, buy a porsche and take it on some terraine like that to potentially ruin it. I am building some trucks for some back woods travel but I would never start with a porsche......that's for the city only in my opinion. I like them, but not for off road.
ehh...no offense to porsche, but instead of paying like 75 or 80 grand for that thing i'd rather spend half of that and build up a truck thats meant for off roading lol, if that made sense
top gear actually loves the cayenne (turbo and turbo S) ... they just dont like the way it looks ... looking at the 2nd generation, its an amazingly good looking car ...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i wanna see you do that about 3 times faster like a REAL 4x4 and let me know how it holds up, plus you might wanna spend some of your own money not mommy and daddy's and get your own shit to break
@boreddead88 uumm k? about 90% of the wheeling i do in my REAL 4x4 is slow and steady, u cant go 30 in a double low range. and would u really wanna jump a porsche?
If I had a car like that, capable of doing all that...I will put it to do that, I like off road trips and my job nature will ask me for a car like that....so....If I have the money, I will buy it.

Like I said before, keep doing aftermarkets to a vehicle and then tell me its a 4x4. Mine comes with all the stuff you are gonna try to add. And once you start adding crap to the vehicle to make it perform properly, is it really that vehicle that should claim the right, hell no, its aftermarket crap. go research plz
nokmuay1970 1 year ago
@nokmuay1970 Yep, and i have been on the moon constantly testing different vehicles in that environment, plus back here on earth and i can tell you that a stock vehicle is not going to beat an vehicle outfitted specifically for rough terrain. You are just believing too much bs and finding excuses why that vehicle that is so expensive is actually worse off-road then another car half its price.
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 What I am saying is that the Touareg etc like others cayenne, LR etc are far more capable then you think they are, and that the jeep and crap like that is nto able to keep up. And once you put aftermarket on it, it really isnt the vehicle that earns the claim anymore. IE a ford f150 tricked out might be capable of doing tons of stuff, but its not the F150 that deserves the credit. The ford f150 Raptor now is stock and deserves the credit. do you follow?
nokmuay1970 1 year ago
@nokmuay1970 not really, put the same stuff on a toyota yaris and see if can do the same stuff as the 1/2 ton truck. Heck even see if it can do more stuff then before it had those things, it probably will be able to do LESS. you are just finding really idiotic reasons and excuses to justify the over blown price you payed for a fake 4x4, go to any 4x4 show and everyone will tell you a porshe is for looks and will laugh if you take it offroad.
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@nokmuay1970 I belive they are more capable then what some people think but far less capable then what the manifactures claim let alone the price of it
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 I paid less then 18k (Cdn) for mine and it had 3 year warranty still and only 50k kilometers on it.
I couldnt get a f150 for that price lol. and these are far more capable then 99% of the other 4x4 claimants. I say again go educate yourself pls, its not that hard to find the tech data bulletins
nokmuay1970 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 lets agree to disagree as you are basing your opinion on opinion and mine is based on fact, and we cant seem to find common ground, so lets end it here. I wont bother replying to anymore of these nonesense posts. its obvious your mind was made up without ever taking a moment to educate yourself on the machine. Sorry, thats my 2 cents, you can keep the change.
nokmuay1970 1 year ago
@nokmuay1970 No you are actually arguing because you are defeding and making excuses for why you bought that car. The fact is on enjoyment side i am not going to critisize you because everyone is different, but what you are arguing is which is more valuable and practical and capable. The fact is that a porshe is not practical in any everyday driving including off road. Your "facts" are pulled out of your ass because apparently if i install a winch my car is not a toyota anymore... sure, "facts".
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 also, is it so hard to believe that the SF tests vehicles? If it is, then I feel you have lost all perspective of reality.
nokmuay1970 1 year ago
@nokmuay1970 And do you find it hard that NASA is better at testing equpitment for unique and extreame terrain that you have never seen? Ive been there.
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 I own a touareg and bought it used for a steal. I dont think Im defending the price. I paid less then my jetta, but I can guarranttee that they are 4x4 full time. Hell just watch a video or read a terch report and you will see this. I have buried mine in mud to the headlights and drove out in 4hi, never had to change to 4lo or even use the locking option. They were designed for Africa you realize, and they are actually a military vehicle with various setups on them in German Army
nokmuay1970 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 /sigh this is going no where. there is no actual proof that nasa has ever even landed on the moon. Only self produced documentation in a time when national pride was indanger of losing to the russian space program, which also has no proof. I still havent seen a telescope able to see the USA flag they say they put on the moon, did the martians come take it? We can see way off in the solar system, but cant see a flag on the moon? Either way this is pointless
nokmuay1970 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 No of course not, it's front wheel drive!

@1ohtaf1 all cayenne's have 4x4, he had 4x4 on but the wheel was of the road, the system give the wheel no power ;)

@chimpyjet If you live in a snowy climate they are a necessity just to go to the market.

@chimpyjet what is the point of buying a cayenne and going off roading with it?
htepplwhotakmyusrnme 1 year ago
@chimpyjet I dont know why dont you find a Range Rover owner and ask them.

@adamslurch71 Who said Range Rover's don't go off road?

@chimpyjet
Errr, so you dont get stuck in the snow?
SGTsimo 1 year ago
@chimpyjet um if you want to go off road you could get the ultimate offroader for the same price an hummer h1 and it would kill the cayenne in a mud battle not even funny
jackthePS3GAMER 1 year ago
@chimpyjet city 4x4 you know? to be able to drive cobblestone roads ;)
bruchpilot747 1 year ago
@chimpyjet I live in a city that snows alot so a 4x4 is very usefull with is at least 5 months of winter. and that doesnt mean i am going to take a 100k suv to that type of terrein... get a cheap Jeep for that .

my nerely stock 86 modle nissan patrol could do it and it doesn't have lockers just big muddies
feralmick1 2 years ago
any jap 4x4 could do that with ease have look at any out back chalange or winch chalange videos to see how its done with real 4x4s
feralmick1 2 years ago
Actually only 1 jap suv could do that. The Land Cruiser because its the only one with height adjustment. A proper modern suv needs HA in addition to at least 2 locking diffs and a low range. Maybe 8 productions vehicles in the world have that and none of them are Chevy's, Fords, or Jeeps. (Technically you dont need HA to do that, so by this logic a school bus could do it too.)
Autostream 2 years ago
What the hell do you need height adjustment for? Any truck with decent ground clearance and a limited slip or locker could do that. You clearly haven't ever driven off road, so your opinion on this matter must be disqualified. That section of dirt road would offer no challenge to nearly any stock SUV. Many Japanese SUVs are quite capable. Land Cruiser, Patrol, 4Runner, Sequoia, probably even a Pajero and Pathfinder with their IRS.
matthewjoyce16 2 years ago
Without height adjustment, once you're beached- you need to call a Cayenne or a Rover. Unless you are in one, then you press one button and continue on.
Autostream 2 years ago
really, height adjustmant don't mean shit, wh don't you make the damn truck with enough ground clearence in the first place? yes it is a smart thing but it is kind of pointless, and porsche did a good job for a companey origionally a racing companey but it is not the best, want a 4 wheel drive? Buy a fuckin bronco or silverods z71, dumb asses
onlypresto 2 years ago
You dont want max height all the time because you will eventually beach yourself, then youre screwed..Height adjustment is a little assurance for intelligent people that your vehicle will get you home by itself unlike a bronco or silvo. I've infact driven offroad in ALL these vehicle for a documentary movie I made about SUVs.
Autostream 2 years ago
no not all the time, but no matter what it is a possibilite to get stuck, even with height adjustment, and your way less likely to get stuck when your a foot of the ground than when your 8 inches off the ground, plus, i doubt youv'e driven all of them, if you have you wouldn't be saying that, cause i've driven them all too, like i said, the height adjustment is a smart thing, but is kind of pointless, the cayenne would probalbly be better if porsche either raised the ride height and put
onlypresto 2 years ago
Pickups are probably the worst 4wd vehicles for offroading b/c of its inherent flaws: There's no weight in the back and the rear axles ground clearance is constantly changing. Big no, no's. The 'offroad' Cayenne is called the Transsyberia, named after the 5,000mi offroad rally. There's landcruisers, land rovers, suzukis, etc, but no pickups for reasons I highlighted.
Autostream 2 years ago
Show us the proof! You are full of crap so I think it would be important for you to offer proof. Perhaps there are other reasons other than off road capabilities that keep trucks off those trails.
Sorry, you are a hate filled automotive idiot who seems to think your personal screwed up opinions somehow actually have any weight. You are completely pathetic!
HA HA HA
Autosteme 2 years ago
worst vechels huh? and no weight in the back, ground clearence changing, those words just proved how much you know, they have the same suspensions, same divelines ect, the only difference is the body style, and the reason the used suvs is the fact that land rover, land cruiser, susuki, etc. don't make them, smart ass, and do some more research, trucks are used in rallys too, like for example the baja 5000 in mexico
onlypresto 2 years ago

So fuck off.
onlypresto 2 years ago
proper of road wheels and tires on it, before when i drove my freinds x5 and cayenne when they were stock, things always broke on the some trail i drove my stock 2006 silverado z71 on with no problems, and i even drove it harder, but him and i have designed an axel and suspension set up that made them both adquet off roaders and are almost still as quick around a track as they were before, just with a slight bit more body roll, and a little less grip. I do this kind of stuff for a living too.
onlypresto 2 years ago
...so?
its a porsche.
sirtristan01 2 years ago 2
Pretty good off roading in an somewhat expensive SUV like that. That was really good control.
billygoatdawg081992 2 years ago
what the hell are you talking about, the Porsche cayenne has the best of both worlds. you talk about jeeps and other American made craps, but you don't realize that jeeps are only good for off road, the Porsche is an excellent sports car on road wit h near sport sedan handling and it is also amazing off road as you can see, now i bet a jeep cant keep up with a Porsche on road, who cares off road, people with Porsche's don't really care about off road performance that much, we like road power
Armiansky 2 years ago
100% agreed. however you are off topic. this video has nothing to do with on road dynamics even though feralmick1 is severely ignorant.
Autostream 2 years ago
What the hell are YOU talking about, every on from this planet know if you want the best of both worlds and you have the money you buy an Overfinch Range Rover.
InkyEnston 2 years ago
that thing SUX for off roading, waste of time
carlover1987 2 years ago
Hate to say it, but 90+% of the jeeps out on the road would not be able to make that. Only a vehicle with one or more lockers or very good electronic 4wd control could.
Granted, for the cost of a Cayenne S you could buy a fleet of Rubicons which could easily do it. :p
epock7 2 years ago
For the cost of a Rubicon you could buy a fleet of ATvs which could easily do it. See the absurdity in your comparison?

Well, I learned they are 4x4 after all. I always wondered, but never got close enough to tell. I wish I had that kind of money, buy a porsche and take it on some terraine like that to potentially ruin it. I am building some trucks for some back woods travel but I would never start with a porsche......that's for the city only in my opinion. I like them, but not for off road.

1. Offroading isnt "jupming as fast as you can through all possible mud holes"
Driving slowly through the terrain without getting a scratch can be much more fun than these material killing crap you know from TV.
2. I din't spend mommys and daddys money. I'm a offroad instructor and this was the car of one ouf our customers.
