Great memories. I was one of those that got in for free (mate's mate managed to pull a Milton exit gate off it's runners) and was inside the penalty area by the time that final goal was (or wasn't) scored
I was there in the Milton Road end that night....absolutely unforgettable !! The Dell was just a very special place - and St Marys just cannot compare with the atmosphere generated at the old place..remember the old 'chocolate boxes' at the Milton Road end, and the little corner under the clock at the Archers Road end ? Happy days....
Yeah. I remembr it well. Me and the bulls eye boys went to the semi.the final.this game and the charity shield!great days. I remember Stanley Bowles nutmegging a saint player! Qpr were also big back then. Ken a.
. there had been 250,000 fans out for the parade of the cup. Most of them wanted to go to this game too. 20,000 were locked out. Only 29,000 paid to get in, but another 5,000 got in free. The ground couldn't contain them all so there were thousands on the pitch, right up to the white lines throughout the match until one Saints' fan ran on and scored a goal and the ref abandoned the game. I was there.
RIP Bobby Stokes, a Saints hero worthy of more than a Ford Granada!

Well, as a young un, I've only heard about this testimonial match before.
But to see the actual footage is staggering! There must have been close to 40,000 inside The Dell there?
