Guys, it IS possible to use autotune live. It's all in the mic. I know Walmart usually adds autotune to their singers, EVEN WHEN THEY DON'T NEED IT. So there's an almost guarantee that Katy is singing with autotune in this performance.

I believe that she doesn't need it though. :P

She only osund robotic because she's a less trained singer, Jessie J Beyonce Mariah Carey those can run those notes like butter, Some other lessly trained people such as Katy Perry makes it sound robotic, If they put autotune in here then why didn't they put it all on the other performances? Plus she sang this well becaue it's a small crowd. This is why she doesn't do as well as here.She's the real deal.. Not some fake bitch.....

@aromith actually, while she used live autotune in her mtv unplugged performances (why??), i don't believe she used any in this one.  you would be able to hear a kind of tinny quality to her voice if she did, but her voice here sounds perfectly awesome and natural here :)

@deesterD I really don't think she used autotune for MTV Unplugged, I've listened so hard and her voice just sounds natural, more natural than here, here it sounds slightly robotic, I don't think that she's using autotune here because she's not 100%, but in MTV she sounded pretty real to me and I can normally hear autotune pretty well, I can tell that she has at least a little bit in the studio versions of almost all her songs (as do all popstars) but not on MTV.

Katy usually doesn't sing very well live, but this was pretty good. But Wal-Mart sound checks usually auto-tune all of their artist's final performances, as do most other soundchecks like Target and AOL.

Likewise, I remember people saying Taylor Swift was sick and coughing during her performance at a country music festival a while back, but when it was broadcast on tv she sounded better than ever. But I think you can auto-tune in real time. Look at performances by Black Eyed Peas and Kanye West. Even Ellen had an auto-tune mic and sang Cher's Believe on her show.
