The quattro is an excellent 4WD-system, the Torsten diff works great both at the track and in snow/mud.

@Yavrumritze where do you see that info? The B5 RS4 is a faster car than the E46 M3. Doesn't quite handle as well though, due to the typical AWD understeer and comfortable suspension. This is a good show of both cars weaknesses and strengths.
You can get some extra power out of the E46 M3 by adding the Signature Motoring performance cold air intake. They add over 13HP on the E46 330ci, so I imagine it should be about the same improvement on the M3. Price is about $160 and is a drop-in intall. I have one on my E46 328i, best upgrade money I've ever spent on my car.

My RS4 is much more stable than that under braking. The guy driving the Audi is not the most skilled, and he misses a lot of apexes. It be more interesting to see sedan vs. sedan, for a true comparo. Either way, both are nice rides. I love my Audi.

The rs4 comes stock with 375hp. Given awd and its powertrain loss i would say that the 333hp m3 and it are pushing just about the same whp. Rs4 weighs more and understeers significantly more than the m3. Of course the m3 will be faster not to mention the drive of the m3 was far better. In the end though i would take an widebody oem rs4 straight out of Germany way before an m3.

This looks like an older rs4 with twin turbo v6 (only had double pipes on the one side, stationwagon/avant, and older taillights). The newer rs4 (in the US) are sedans, unless they sold the late model rs4 avant in europe. They never sold these tt v6 rs4 in the USA. You can convert an older (2000-2002) s4 into an rs4 with upgrade turbo, intercooler and maybe fuel system.
I own a 2008 RS4, and I can tell you right now my stock RS4 is faster to 80mph than the latest generation stock M3 with the carbon roof. RS4 is slower through the tight corners because it is carrying nearly 400 more lbs, but it will pull away every corner exit. So protect the corners, the M3 can't pass on the straights. And if it is slightly wet? Well throw away the M3, it can't compete.
Audi RS4 and M3 are identical in the power factors, however M3 has compenstaed for a lesser engine by reducing weigth. If Audi had taken the same weight saving measures the BMW had like carbon fiber roof the audi engine woudl prove that it is superior and one of the best engines ever made as stated in Top Gear.
BMW plays tricks to get performance. Audi is just a better car. I also love how BMW fanboys always race the audi 50to 250mph, never from a zero, knowing they get smoked off the start.
Well to be accurate, that car is not an RS4 in the video, no dual ovals, fender fares are too small to be an RS. It most likely is an S4 Avant, 340hp. Problem is these videos never show the cars they claim in the title. Or they never clarify the model or mods. Just leave it to viewers to argue over non-facts
I found this video on another site onlien adn the video is a bit clearer at teh beginning, you can definitely see this car is a single pipe exhasut out the drivers side. Therefore it is a B5 platform car, and it coudl be an RS4 from that generation, but it is not a V8 420hp RS4, it is a 340hpRS4, or it could be a 260hp S4 Definitely not a B7 platform RS4.
Actually, the RS4 in this video has about 380hp vs M3's 335hp (roughly) But then, it is an estate and weighs no doubt significantly more.
The fact is they are both great cars and a few hundreds of a second here or there doesn't make much difference. It's obvious, though, that the RS4 driver is going too wide on the corners and leaving his flank open.
maybe its not the driver. Audi's always have a tendency to understear and when you have a car behind you pushing you to go faster, eventually your going to end up on the outside of the corner. Which is exactly what seemed to have happen in this video.

the Rs4 in this video which is the B5 model, has a 2.7 twin turbo (or bi-turbo as audi call it)engine. the newer model (the B7) uses a natuaraly aspirated V8... so your half right.
you can see the different philosophies at work here... for brute power I think the nod goes to the Audi, but the BMW exhibits much better handling in the twisties, where the Audi seems to struggle a little with understeer.
Both very nice cars though, and I'd be happy with either in my garage...
audi just needs to modify their quattro system like they did in the r8 with a 60-40 or 70-30 split with the rear and front wheels. then the rs4 would be absoluetly amazing. ik how good the rs4 already is as i have droven both the rs4 and m3 but the rs4 just needs a little change and it would be that much better. especially against the new m3
I personally prefer the E90 M3 to the RS4, but I like both. Its a good thing that people like what they like, otherwise everyone driving a sports car would be driving a ZR1 for this price..

Sorry have to stop all of you beamer ass biters but the Audi is a better over all car the rs4 smashed a e39 m5 on the highway and don't make any stupid replies I'm not talking about the new one. the one you cant get in America. I am a BMW fan but you know damn well Audi is king they making wagons (rs6) that are heavy as hell that will kill a e60 m5 (Sedan) ;-) and yes i would rather be seen in a m3 but would rather drive a rs4

@wedrive525it True - But... The Audi's lack character due to less steering feel and the dull experience which the quattro system offers. The better overall driving experience is the lighter, sharper, RWD M3. If you buy a car based on what a stop watch says and not on driver fulfillment and character then grab the RS4 :)

@demon23ro if you didn't notice in NASCAR there are turns. As much as people talk about NASCAR its more to the sport than just engine power. It's not my favorite auto sport but its still kinda cool. It does get boring but I would kill to do some NASCAR racing. And the straight line thing is gettin old yes we like 0 to 60 and quarter miles but trust me we honor good handling cars. And in this case your argument is irrelevant. Awd more grip Audi rules BMW does too but in this case rs4 ftw.

There you will see just how much GRIP ( i would call it understeer to be honest..) the RS 4 has on a racing track vs an M3. Also check out season 16, episode 5 of Top Gear, M3 vs RS5, and then, tell me which car is the one that HANDLES BETTER.
As for straight line speed, check my channel, i have an M3 vs R8 4.2 drag race, from 30 to 180 MPH.

@wedrive525it did you know that the that rs4 is older than both the c63 and e92 m3 -______-. excuse me if im wrong but the 2005 s4 is faster (around a track) than a e46 m3 not rs4. the current rs6 is faster than the e60 m5 and the NEW e63 AMG. thats saying something. maybe Audi is a understatement. BMW is my fav overall company but Audi always makes the most powerful and user friendly cars.

The RS4 in this movie has a 2.7 BiTurbo V6 engine. The RS4 with the 4.2 V8 you're talking about is the 2007+ model.

This looks like an older rs4 with twin turbo v6 (only had double pipes on the one side, stationwagon/avant, and older taillights). The newer rs4 (in the US) are sedans, unless they sold the late model rs4 avant in europe. They never sold these tt v6 rs4 in the USA. You can convert an older (2000-2002) s4 into an rs4 with upgrade turbo, intercooler and maybe fuel system.

I own a 2008 RS4, and I can tell you right now my stock RS4 is faster to 80mph than the latest generation stock M3 with the carbon roof. RS4 is slower through the tight corners because it is carrying nearly 400 more lbs, but it will pull away every corner exit. So protect the corners, the M3 can't pass on the straights. And if it is slightly wet? Well throw away the M3, it can't compete.

Audi RS4 and M3 are identical in the power factors, however M3 has compenstaed for a lesser engine by reducing weigth. If Audi had taken the same weight saving measures the BMW had like carbon fiber roof the audi engine woudl prove that it is superior and one of the best engines ever made as stated in Top Gear.
BMW plays tricks to get performance. Audi is just a better car. I also love how BMW fanboys always race the audi 50to 250mph, never from a zero, knowing they get smoked off the start.

Well to be accurate, that car is not an RS4 in the video, no dual ovals, fender fares are too small to be an RS. It most likely is an S4 Avant, 340hp. Problem is these videos never show the cars they claim in the title. Or they never clarify the model or mods. Just leave it to viewers to argue over non-facts

You aren´t right. The Audi is definitely a RS4 powered by Abt with 420hp and later 450hp.
I´m quite sure that this video was made at a time as the audi had 420hp.
The owner of the car was a former mod in a forum and so in know this video.

I found this video on another site onlien adn the video is a bit clearer at teh beginning, you can definitely see this car is a single pipe exhasut out the drivers side. Therefore it is a B5 platform car, and it coudl be an RS4 from that generation, but it is not a V8 420hp RS4, it is a 340hpRS4, or it could be a 260hp S4 Definitely not a B7 platform RS4.

It´s a B5 RS4 V6TT with Chiptuning by ABT.
In the first stage this car had 420hp and later:
460PS (P Max = 338KW) bei 6945 U/min. Max. drehzahl bei 7250.
618NM bei 4531 U/min.
20 grad und 974 hpc druck.
P-rad von 258KW bei 256km/h an den Rädern.

Actually, the RS4 in this video has about 380hp vs M3's 335hp (roughly) But then, it is an estate and weighs no doubt significantly more.
The fact is they are both great cars and a few hundreds of a second here or there doesn't make much difference. It's obvious, though, that the RS4 driver is going too wide on the corners and leaving his flank open.

maybe its not the driver. Audi's always have a tendency to understear and when you have a car behind you pushing you to go faster, eventually your going to end up on the outside of the corner. Which is exactly what seemed to have happen in this video.

i´m fuckin too froma bavaria....ingolstadt wennsdes genau wissen willst....und frag mal in deinem freundesumkreis rum die werden dir alle bestätigen dass audi beliebter ist...vorallem mit dem r8 ist audi zurzeit sehr erfolgreich (abgesehen von der finanzkrise).BMW macht mehr einen auf sportcoupé was denen eher nicht gelingt da man mit nem RS4 schlicht schneller ist al mit dem M3

the Rs4 in this video which is the B5 model, has a 2.7 twin turbo (or bi-turbo as audi call it)engine. the newer model (the B7) uses a natuaraly aspirated V8... so your half right.

you can see the different philosophies at work here... for brute power I think the nod goes to the Audi, but the BMW exhibits much better handling in the twisties, where the Audi seems to struggle a little with understeer.
Both very nice cars though, and I'd be happy with either in my garage...

And we are talking performance only here btw! The RS6 will flip BMWs M5.. But then BMWs new M5 (about 1 year away) will flip the RS6 - new M5 will have well over 600bhp. Basically I dont see how you can say Audi is better.. seeing as ALL ther RS cars are slower than BMWs M cars!
