I have been working for Reliance Universal for 25 years and i had a very nice time to make up formulas and test the paints before it went on the market. I'he worked for 3 differents companies and i learnt a lot. Over all i had a 40 years career into the paint industry and i loved it! I see that the painters are not carefull, they should wear a mask.
@drunkass77, i do not understand how come they are not aware from the danger of breathing those paint evaporating solvents. In my case, we had a big spray booth and we used mask to protect our lungs even if our Technical Director didnt tell us. As we had to make the technical datas of the products we formulated, we were perfectly aware of the dangers they could make on the painters'health. How come the painters do not read the technical data sheets? Is the foreman not giving these to them?
We own an unfinished furniture store and hand apply coatings that are water based. We get a good demand for a better quality finish than most factories can provide
Tell myself? Tell OSHA. Learn your subject matter before you write or speak. There are spraying situations where masks are essential. It all depends on the materials being sprayed and the enviroments in which they're sprayed. Read carefully: I wrote the word "essential", as in "required". Don't confuse that word with "preferred". OSHA doesn't turn a blind eye to major manufacturers. Again, you need to learn your subject matter.
A properly run spray booth does not "require" the operator to use PPE (masks and such). If it were unsafe then OSHA would not allow it. The key -- something you missed, of course -- is adaquate ventilation. OK?
As far as antiquing goes, the site does not show or mention cowtailing or cowtail brushes. Cowtailing is a significant technique that you guys ignored. Thumbs down. The other techniques are tried, true and well-known. That said, the factory/production approachs are ignored. Whoops.
My god, not one person in that whole facility had facial/mask protection. With the amount of spraying in that place i wouldn't be surprised if some people died from all the air toxians.
@bobswoodshop fuck backdraft ventilation... all that spraying right in front and close to their faces will make them inhale large doses of what ever chemical are used!
and look how happy they look while doing this slave job... what a fucked up job to have for a minimum wage!!
@CT2507 How do you know what their hourly wage was? They could have been drawing a decent salary for the time. Even if they were making 10/hr, that was fair money back in the 80's when minimum wage was in the neighborhood of $3-$4/hr. When you have hungry mouths at home to feed you will do whatever it takes to keep your kids fed, clothed, and healthy.
@bobswoodshop now how in the world can you come to the conclusion that these folks aren't from this country from watching this video? Give me a break, you are an assuming fool. Eather???? really? It is "either". Learn to spell.
How old is this video? How can you sprapy lacquer without a mask? Poor people

Is anybody still alive in that factory?
I feel sorry for all of the staff there, I bet they all end up with lung problems during their lives.
It would much be quicker to stain the wood the correct colour by hand, than to go through all that performance.

@jcsaggitaire yeah they should definitely be wearing masking especially working a line like that. Thats a lot of overspray to be breathing in all day

hmm I wonder why this type of finishing has fallen out of favour ? I'd rather own furniture that was actually made out of plastic than this junk.

@alderaforall was i talking about their hourly wage?
the issue was that masks were not required cause of back draft ventilation... which i think is total bullshit.
