They made this game so casual that all you need to do to kill someone is pull the trigger and the aim assist pulls your hip-fire on target automatically. I wish they'd get rid of aim assist, lag compensation, host based servers, and guns that fire over 800 rounds per minute because even if you can't aim you'll still instantly drop people with those fucking pieces of shit.

The knife will likely never be fixed. The majority of CoD's fanbase is bad. These are the people who are always panic-knifing. When they do it they think "Aww yeah, I just owned that guy! Knifing is so cool!" and not what good players think which is "I just abused a broken and skill-equalizing game mechanic."

It's there for the same reason death streaks are, to provide a minor bonus for bad or new players. Even though it frustrates the more serious fans.

I've found that Rapid Fire on the MP5 works well, not because it's cheap, but because you get more consistent hits once aiming at an enemy rather than the recoil taking it off target. Also. CoD4 knifing was the best.

Fix to the knife: one click pulls it out, 2nd click uses it. That way it takes 2 clicks to panic knife, but guys like onlyusemeblade can just click at the beginning of the match and go to town.
