Question, fine sir...Everytime I lay down the paint and then accidentally go over it, it makes it another dark color which makes me have to redo everythign again. Is there a way around that?
typically it'll take me anywhere from 2-4 hours a page [but again..it varies depending on the complexity of the page. some go by much quicker while others taking much longer]
This is awesome man - Can I ask a question though? When you use brush tool in the video, you're often just holding it at a spot and then a straight line from the last spot appears - This is probably a PS function that I don't know of, so... How do you do it? Thanks a lot for an awesome post
when you're in brush mode try clicking in one spot. your starting point. hold down the shift key and click in another point, and a straight line will be made from the spots you've clicked. really easy to do :D
i only mess with the opacity when doing this style of coloring. No real secret to what values i use i guess. just however "thick" i want the color to come out is how much i set the opacity to. usually its 100$, 50%, 30%, or 10%. but you can always do whatever. just feel it out
Hmm... I love it how towards the end you delicately use the highlights to bring out the 3d of Prime's head. It's unusual that you don't use white instead- Is there a specific way of using white as a highlight or can you use it wherever? Cause I think I might be doing it wrong...
at the very end i add those sharp highlights with a hard round brush, White as my color, and i do it on a new layer thats set to overlay. that way its not straight white but its just a brighter version of the color beneath it
This video has been very instructional... or however it is spelled. :P I have to practive coloring in PS because Paintbrush is so archaic, yet is the only one I can manage right now.

Wow! Y'know, I'm coloring my comic/animatic right now, but it feels like I'm taking too long. How much time do you usually spend on an issue?

So at the beginning, did you scan the image in? and then adjust the contrast/brightness?
Bellasupreme 4 years ago
yup
colormechanic 4 years ago
did you also use just a transparent paintbrush (50%?)
Bellasupreme 4 years ago
the brush opacity varies when i paint. im always changing it depending on how much or how "thick" i want the color to come out
