i love the movie and the song but the only problem i have with the movie is that unlike what everyone thinks the spartans did have chest plates and leg armor it shows the spartans as immortals and thats not true many of the spartans died on the first day of the battle some of this is fake some is real just pointin out some things : )

Actually there were Athenians, Thespians and Thebans all of which (If I recall correctly) outnumbered the Spartans. Though he discipline of the Spartan soldiers distinguished them. Still, the battle at Thermopylae is no less epic for the Greeks having approximately 4,000 soldiers holding back a Persian force numbering in the hundreds of thousands, it's still stunning.

Well, that may be true, but the Sparatans are remembered amoung them all because they held their ground when they knew it would mean death, but they wouldn't lose their honor by retreating against the hordes of the enemy... Death on the battlefield was the best way a Sparatan to go out of the world and to their gods.

P.S If you are careful, and more importantly in a group, the chances of being picked off (first) by a sniper are very slim. More then likely if you get hit you would have realized that atleast it's a sniper.

I suppose we could argue semantics. They were Citizens of the country of Lacedaemon but I was referring to the concept of Citizen Soldiers, like our National Guard. Part-time soldiers, full-time citizens. Teachers, Doctors, Construction Workers, etc.

Spartans were full-time soldiers until the age of thirty. They were pretty much one of the only Greek City-States to possess a Professional Army.

As I said, semantics. But I assume your knowledge of Sparta comes from the movie 300.

The term Citizen soldier in the way our National Guard uses it would more be a parallel to the soldiers of Athens or another of the more cultural city-states. They trained once or twice a year and were only called up when needed. Not a standing army like the Spartans had.
