@skvoucher Just tell me WHY it is "gay"? It's not sexual, it's not homo-erotic, so why is it gay? I'll tell you why, it's because you don't have a vocabulary that can adequately describe what you're trying to say- other than "this is gay". You are a total fuckwit and probably "gay". With your inevitable dull response to this comment- TRY to be a bit more original.
Bro nice car, you should rebuilt that motor and get even more HP, a headjob alone would do wonders , get all the nasty carbon and casting flash out of the ports and stuff.
What kit is this? Does the supercharger have a viscous clutch or something of the sort? It doesn't look like it turns over when the throttle is closed.
@Cipher822 , this is a Seabring kit, no clutch, just a bypass valve, the pulley spins with the rest of the motor, you are seeing an illusion due to shutter speed with the camera.
@knightterror66, compared to supercharging which is basically bolt on (about 3-4 hours work) turbos are a little more involved, you have to replace the exhaust manifold (rusty bolts hard to access) and the turbo needs oil lines so you have to tap your oil pan and thread it, you would want intercooling so that's more plumbing to do, there may be under hood temperature issues so you might want to heat-wrap the whole thing. It's just more work to set up.
@terryrouge Just looking on Ebay, there is a JDM kit with everything for $999 buy it now, I am also seeing a no-name kit for $598 buy it now, these are just the first 2 I saw, these are for the 94-02 miata. A couple of years ago there was a guy in Brooklyn who would sell and install a full kit for $1600.
@terryrouge , in the summer I have to set the timing back 4 degrees or it pings, the alcohol injection helps, it does like the cooler seasons. As long as I am not under boost it doesn't matter, I could drive 100 mph with 100 deg temp on the highway all day and not have any problems (except for maybe speeding tickets).
what supercharger do you have fitted?home made or a kit?jackson racing?i'm looking at fitting a supercharger off a mini, its a common conversion in the uk,any advice?what ecu are you using?fuelling ect?
It's the Jackson kit (Eaton M45) I wish I had the $2k for an ECU, I am running the stock computer with Toyota Supra injectors and alcohol injection for intercooling, my only advise is DON't LET IT PING! (I've melted a few pistons over the years).
@Bowerso many thanks...toying with a few ideas at the mo...turbo or supercharger....and maybe even nitrous...did you find the supra injectors plug and play?
Yea, the non-turbo 89-92 Supra 305cc injectors will plug right in, it does idle a bit rougher, but is totally streetable (I use it almost every day for work). If your not going higher then say 6 lbs. of boost then the stock ones should work fine. BTW turbos are cheaper then S/C, but I hate the lag of a turbo, with a S/C it just feels like your driving an 8 cyl. all the time.
@Bowerso ta for that, always good to have as much info as poss!what have you done for regulating fuelling?ecu?ect...
have a look at my vids...think you may enjoy!was watching yours on your uni cycle...lol..very good..and your beetle one in your faves made me laugh as well..
The fuel pump has been replaced, and the regulator (all comes in the kit), there is also a trick of soldering a resister in mass/air to trick the ecu into thinking is -20 out. Nice Camaro in the videos!
miatas are more of a drift car than a drag car... the car has no traction and its very light. That is why they put a 4 cyl. engine in it not a 6 or a 8 cyl.
I agree with u but its really not a good drift car I think, I drive mx5 myself, and really think it is too small and light for drift, can't do long drifts on it, on high speed it just goes out of control wen try to drift nd goes 180, much better to take heavier car like silvia supra skyline m3....
I also had a mx5 and can drift it around anywhere. I even fishtailed it on the highway with 70+ mph before I sold it and I had no rubber on my tires. It actually goes smooth in and out of the drift just be careful on the gas pedal, it took me a while to learn how to drift my miata.
they also have a v8 conv. for it but if you do the math! its not just the engine that matters. if you do a v6 or a v8 swap you have to change everything in the car not just the engine. After you r done all you have left from the mx5 is just the body. Whats the point, just buy a car with a bigger engine.
Why dont u put BOV on it ? :/ Btw people, help, i have next generation mazda(2001 Mk2) mx5 and im planning to boost power, why every one puts superchargers, prob i gna put turbo charger, gives more psi, more power, and doesnt cost that much more... or maybe there is a point?? help :)
No BOV needed, there is a bypass valve on the supercharger itself. S/C gives a totally linear power curve i.e. power from idle to top end, the car just "feels" powerful.(like if it had a V8) Turbos will ultimately give more power, but you have to wait for it (lag), they are also more complicated to install, a S/C is basically bolt-on. In the real world supercharging is easier to live with. When you stab the throttle the power is instant, if I only drag raced id go turbo, but I drive it every day
turbos wear out way much faster and will give you alot of engine problems over a few thousand miles..I would prefer a supercharger over a turbo any time, but that's my opinion.
If you setup a turbo correctly, the engine wear is the same. That being said, turbos create a lot more under hood/intake heat, can contaminate engine oil, NEED to be intercooled (the plumbing of which can be difficult and every inch adds lag and cost), and the turbo itself needs to be rebuilt more often then a supercharger. I give turbos their props but everything (S/C, turbo, NOS) has it's ups and downs.
I think I'll try to find a kit, as far as I'm far not a profesional in engines, but triing and geting beter:D one friend of mine told me about some kit that cost about 6000$ and boosts the engine to 450-500hp is that possible? And pls, can someone advise me with some good websites where I can find/order turbo kits for my mx5? Thanks
Actually the mileage is pretty poor for a 1.8, if I baby it I can squeak out about 25mpg, but that never happends. The way I drive I get about 18mpg. It's the Toyota Supra injectors that are killing the milage. I don't understand your intake question, are you talking about the supercharger manifold or the whole supercharger setup?
I am using chemical intercooling, I am injecting methyl alcohol and water to cool things down, so far no meltdowns. I tried an air-to-air unit off of a Saab, but the lag was lame, and I lost almost 2 lbs. of boost.
To save time I am just pasting what someone else wrote:-> as with any intercooler, this suppresses detonation so more power producing boost and timing can be utilized. Water, with its high latent heat of vaporization cools the intake charge and combustion. Methanol cools the charge and combustion but also acts like an extremely high octane fuel (some researchers claim as high as 120 octane) as well as adding more oxygen to combustion.
Uhh.. Thats an Eaton Supercharger, sold under Jackson Racing.. Not Kenne Bell. If it were, the charger systems would make a WHOLE lot more power. Why do you think thats the number one mod on 03/04 Cobra Mustangs? Quoted from their site about Cobra upgrade: "Up to 617 RWHP vs. stock 366HP with stock cats, MAF meter, throttle body and injectors from ONLY a Kenne Bell Supercharger Upgrade kit and Cobra Cool Air Kit - and 656HP @ 26 psi."
That valve cover is off of a Mazda 323, there are a few that fit, for the 1.6 you can use one off of a Mercury capri, for the 1.8 you can use a Ford escort gt (but is says ford on it), or a Kia, or the 323. Just check which side your timing sensor is.. some people just grind down their stock cover to expose the cam pulleys.
Yeah?? I have a go-kart that runs 2s. Who cares what your 323 ran? I'm sure this miata runs quicker than your new honda civic with vtak anyway. Good job on the S/C. Have you dynoed yet?
No dyno yet, first it costs more then racing does, second the numbers would be disappointing, I am guessing 150 at the rear wheels, the Miata's strong point is it's weight, or lack there of. I have things that are much quicker, but this is my daily driver with air, and a radio, drop top, etc.. good luck with the gokart :) hmmm 2 sec, your trap speed has to be like 800+ mph or so...
13.9 is slow. We got an S-10 for under $2000 on Ebay that runs in the 12's! I am sure if I invested in a 100 shot of NOS I could crush it, but that's cheating, anyway the point is there's always somthing quicker. How'd you get into the 13's? big intercooler? NOS? got any videos of it?
