Outstanding tank! you have some really nice movement. I have a 220 gallon tank with a Passer and French angel, the French is quite a bit bigger than the Passer and they werent introduced at the same time. They get along fine but i was just wondering if it would be safe to add other angels or if the angels had to have a specific compatible format. Just looking for some more information
To all of you hating on this tank, do some research on Infinity Aquariums. They maintain this tank. They are obviously very knowledgeable and capable and would know sooner than any of the rest of us if there was a problem. These guys know their stuff. If kept by a novice, this tank would be doomed. Anything is possible with the right equipment and the right maintenance schedule. My boss at the pet store where I work once kept 100 neon tetras in a 29 gallon.
@kvance44 Thank for the kind words! Much appreciated- we can't please everybody, but its good to know we've got the attention of viewers. As far as this tank goes, many of the fish have been transferred to the tank you in the vid "Custom Aquariums and Saltwater Fish". The angels were just getting too big, so now they're in a 2000 gallon! Its still going strong though! Lots of beautiful species and tons of activity.
What a miserable fucking life those fish must lead... I'm all for fishtanks, but not for forcing the fish to live as though every moment of their lives is rush hour in Midtown Manhattan.
@RoofFiddler Have you ever seen what a wild coral reef looks like? Fish are much lonelier in an aquarium, even like this, than they would be out on a reef. Reef fish tend to gather in groups anyways, because it is more safe and you are more likely to get a meal. Overcrowded tanks have problems that are not evident here. Those fish look quite healthy, but it is probably a lot of work.
After seeing this tank I'm gonna get do a 1000 gallon one day that would be one expensive project because my tank will be made out of cement walls and one window. Just like seaworld hahaha.... but thats one of my dream tank.
This aquarium is approx 4 years old. We've kept it stocked like this for approx 2.5 years with few problems. We did have a Clarion and Passer angel that had to be separated at one point but everyone else gets along. I will tell you....there is a secret...
Simply amaizing how you are keeping so many uncompatable fish together. You have defeated the odds for now, but one simple mistake and all of those great fish could be gone. How long have you had these fish together? The fish look great, but I am worried you will only be able to keep this going for so long. Good luck, I wish you the best.
Another thing..if you halved the fish numbers it would only look boring trust me!....
Yeh the more i look at this tank the more i wish it was in MY living room!....
Great tank.....great fish...and just shows that like this i prefer the fish only tank over the reef tank anyday....any chance of a hi-res video upload dude?..pm me with the link if you do!
The fish will get used to over crowding..in fact it will help reduce aggression...i have kept many marine tanks and this is a lovely fish only tank...taking the logistics side out of the equation i do feel this tank has maybe just half a dozen too many fish in it ...aesthetics dont benefit from such overcrowding with fish bumping into one another lol and i have yet to see reef fish in such congested conditions on any reef i have ever dived... but i have to admit i like it!...never a dull moment!
very nice tank. well done for the work you have put in. I'm a reefie to and would like to share a video of my tank with others. see it on here at: "marek's reef aquarium" :-)))
Wow thats a lot of fish. If it where me I would take out about 60% of the fish and add more Live rock and coral. Its great to have big beautiful fish but with that many the take looks cluttered and none of them stand out.
Its all in the plumbing. You can mix the new water anywhere so long as the plumbing is setup properly. Have a local drain to remove the water and then a line ran from the new water to the tank with a pump.
hey dude....im also thinking of adding a sohal to my tank but heard that they are aggressive...will it be fine with my butterflies and angels...all are above 3 inches. also will it be fine with a powder blue tang... i see yours is quite large...how does it behave with the other fish
to be honest, you are taking a large risk by adding a sohal with those species. you will need a very large volume (300 gal+) and you will have to manage your aquarium very closely. in this aquarium, the sohal was actually the last fish i've added, keeping his aggression to a minimum.
you definitely have a large volume of water! if you do try a sohal, make sure you keep the fish well fed- at least 3 time per day..and try adding a couple more along with the sohal to disperse the initial aggression. Good luck! Its a beautiful fish!
XL Wet-dry filter with an array of bio-media, TF 500 protein skimmer, 80 watt aqua UV, high pressure mechanical canister filter, 1/2 hp Aqua Logic Chiller
nice......very nice actually...but do the angels never fight...what kind of equipment do you have and how often do you clean your tank....in my 539 gallon. i only have 5 angels...but they are still really aggressive....very nice
Thank you. Initially, there was significant aggression between the angels. However, introducing several (3-4) at a time and heavy feedings have kept the tank manageable. I do a 40% water change every two weeks. R.O. water is used along with an oversized wet/dry filter, uv, protein skimmer, mechanical filter, and chiller. The water parameters are kept very specific as well.
no problem....can you give me the dimentions of the tank...and at what size did you introduce the angels....thank you....and do you have problems sometimes..
Keeping that many angel is achievable I've seen a tank with 15 to 20 angels in a 300 gallon you just need a lot of live rock and if you put them all in at the same time they won't fight. But is always some aggression maybe you should shoot for a 1000 gallon hehehe.. I'm planning to do that one day when I live closer to the beach thats where I get all my water at.
Well said! You've made a good point. I don't know anyone who would put a $2000 fish in an aquarium that is doomed or bound to fail. BTW, the conspicuous angel is doing great...2yrs and counting:)
Nice collection, I have a 180 saltwater, my special fish are a powder blue tang, a harlequin tusk, and a sohal tang among others. What is the name of the large mean looking silver fish? I've seen it in show tanks never in someone's at home. Are they difficult? Thanks, Nick
The only problem I have with this tank is that even if there is sufficient life support systems etc., there are so many fish its hard to enjoy any one individual. Just my opinion though
i actually agree with you. i prefer to display fewer fish when possible. however this tank, obviously uncommon, is quite an amazing display for those who aren't hobbyists.
check yourself. you're obviously a novice. although it is not usually recommended, it is very possible as I have displayed here. depending on your knowledge of aquarium science and your ability to construct an advanced life support system one might fail at attempting to keep this amount of livestock in this volume of water. i have not. this page is for fish and aquarium enthusiasts..buddy.

Great tank just like in coral reef.!!!
Many many fish close together, no like most idiots doing only 5-7 fishes in space able to keep easily 20 like nature.
I wonder, all those marine biologist experts did ever dive in their life in coral reef in order to see whats the real thing.???

To me, having less fish, where they have their own space (maybe 20 fish for this tank), is more beautiful. Makes you look for the beauty

my comment is they may get along now but with so many fish in a small aquarium for them as adult's, they will fight.
