Just a little FYI. When GOOD track and roadbed are available on trackage that is shared by both passenger and freight trains, the standard maximum speed limit for passenger trains is 79 mph. That is probably what the engineer was trying to maintain in your video.
I had a similar experience driving from San Diego to Los Angeles. A Pacific Surfliner overtook me at 90 mph, and the whole thing pulled away into the horizon.
i am standing by the old highway 90 (old spanish trail) in paradis louisiana video taping the sunset limited

a conductor told me that the speed limit is 79 miles per hour but that they go 3 miles over the limit regularly when the track is good!

@elnalgon4u Sounds about the same as Texas freeways
Slow compared to the trains I have ridden in Europe, TVG in 1989 and bullet trains in Japan in 1993

To let you know that is the Sunset Limited. The Texas Eagle has only one engine and no baggage car only a coach baggage.

Don't feel bad about being overtaken - he's probably got more horsepower than you!

@kwbloke- #1 has A LOT more horsepower than that car. Those 2 P42DC's have a combined 8,400 hp to be exact.
