This is the same Bernanke that denied a housing bubble was taking place when the time series data (Kase/Shiller), in plain sight, suggested that we were experiencing the mother of all bubbles since 2003. It has been predicted since about 1980 that they were going to try and push for a world bank for global power and control. An "Austrian" myself, I still have trouble calling this "teaching" rather than "lecturing" or just "haranguing" B Bernanke. As fund managers lose money in other investments during market volatility and eurozone/china slowdown, they will liquidate their gold positions in order to raise cash. This will result in a significant drop in price, as you may have seen this past week. When institutions are liquidating gold, get out. Just saying...

He should have written it out beforehand, given the rarity and high-level importance of a Congressional hearing with the chairman of the Federal Reserve. It is a real shame, in this particular case, that one of the very few Congressmen willing to play hardball with the dubious foundational premises upon which the Fed. Res. system rests did not use his time to put Bernanke between a rock & a hard place.

I just started reading Human Action by Ludwig Von Mises and although the material is a little challenging what Mises says makes sense. Does anyone have any tips for reading or other seminal works in the Austrian school I should check out?

This is the same Bernanke that denied a housing bubble was taking place when the time series data (Kase/Shiller), in plain sight, suggested that we were experiencing the mother of all bubbles since 2003. Ron Paul actually made remarks having to do with dangerously rising asset prices. Bernanke, a Ph.Douchebag, so called expert on the Great Depression with all kinds of endless data could not figure it out if his life depended on it.

@katrastrophy I am aware of both of those. I have not read Creature at Jekyll Island however. The point is that the monetary system is morally and economically destructive. It has been predicted since about 1980 that they were going to try and push for a world bank for global power and control. Just the sheer fact that it has been predicted and they are doing it should be a warning sign. If a world bank is implemented then the people will have absolutely no power.

An "Austrian" myself, I still have trouble calling this "teaching" rather than "lecturing" or just "haranguing" B Bernanke. He doesn't so much raise as blurt out issues too important to be delivered in such a fashion in so serious a settings as this (as opposed to the farcical circuses that are the Republican debate/beauty pageants). ben... if the dollar is sooooo damn strong, then why the hell is minimum wage under poverty, why are we having an economic recession, and why do so many people have a need for financial assistance, government or other wise... i wasnt around in 1971 or prior, but im very confident that the gold standard can do away with these problems, thus doing away or vastly reducing the need for gov assistance and putting money to better use, creating prosperity

Bad idea, you should wait. Gold will be dropping quite a bit soon. As fund managers lose money in other investments during market volatility and eurozone/china slowdown, they will liquidate their gold positions in order to raise cash. This will result in a significant drop in price, as you may have seen this past week. When institutions are liquidating gold, get out. Just saying...

Paul's comment is disorganized & unstructured, despite the merits of his itemized assertions. He should have written it out beforehand, given the rarity and high-level importance of a Congressional hearing with the chairman of the Federal Reserve. It is a real shame, in this particular case, that one of the very few Congressmen willing to play hardball with the dubious foundational premises upon which the Fed. Res. system rests did not use his time to put Bernanke between a rock & a hard place.

I just started reading Human Action by Ludwig Von Mises and although the material is a little challenging what Mises says makes sense. Does anyone have any tips for reading or other seminal works in the Austrian school I should check out?

@maddoxmudd Bob Murphy has published a study guide with summaries of each chapter as well as study questions- I'm essentially where you are know :) Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt is a great read, as well as Meltdown by Tom Woods, and Lessons for the Young Economist by Bob Murphy.

@TOTCD Austrian Economists don't like taxes either, but they still pay taxes... so hope that puts an end to your argument. Fredrich Hayek lived in Austria, and had to pay taxes in order to get so called "government-funded" healthcare.. so it was not free.. he had to pay his share of tax to get that service. Why would he go buy a private medical insurance in cost him self more when he is already paying for it in his tax?!

All the claims that legalization will bring about crime and accidents have been proven wrong by the statistics from states with medical marijuana. But that is not why i support him.
