  • I'm sure the offer for revenue sharing is an advertisement for a YouTube service, not a personalized offer from YouTube.

  • It just seems Brent that some people don't seem to like your videos I love them myself! and so does most of my friends and family I say don't even bother with that stuff and keep going with your vids man! BRENTALFLOSS ALL DA WAAAAY!!

  • brentalfloss handsome bald guy asks thoughtful question

    tags.

    I love you brental

  • Same thing is happening to me, look at my channel! it's all video games, what do I do about that?

  • Youtube system is automatic that detect hit on video and send out revenue share letter. Some video that copy right material will automatically get add without any notice.

  • @brentalfloss your an epic person as in awesome.........i love his douch bag comedy........ur awesome

  • Archy sent me to this specific video, but I heard about you from Nate J. Barnett. It seems that's the only way people become famous anymore, being recommended by more famous people, isn't it?

  • RABBLERABBLERABBLERABBLERABBLE... RABBLE RABBLE

  • YouTube is quickly going down the stream. They better get their heads out of their asses and think straight, or else other websites will surpass YouTube.

  • 903 people respect brentalfloss and unsubscribed to youtube

15 people don't care about brentalfloss and now live in a box

  • i don't know why that video game thing is there every video i have done is a video game walkthough (I've been doing it for a little over a year) i never got copyright slammed on them

  • I guess I'm somewhat of an ignorant prick, but please, brentalfloss: don't get sold out.

    Dis shit ain't 'bout money...

  • i got asked for this for a gameplay video and i could not risk it for the video being deleted because it's one of my best so i just thought screw it im not risking losing entertainment for people

  • Are you a Youtube partner yet?

  • youtube tends to do stupid shite, then again maybe offering "revenue sharing" is a way to con youtubers into getting certain videos removed like movies

  • brentalfloss that is a good question and also tru aboud the rest so keep up the good work love the parodies.

    with muts happynes from holland.

  • Your songs parody the games, therefore under US copyright law it is its own work, and you may redistribute it. I am not sure how this translates to other countries, however.

  • If i did this then it would of been like this 'Dear Youtube. Do your fucking job right, dick heads.'

You most likely wouldn't get the messages if ACTUAL people looked at this. Either that or their fucking retards that can't do shit right.

Sorry for the bad language Flossman

  • I like the tags of this video.

  • WTF? Wow... Youtube is fucking horribly organized. I understand rejecting revenue sharing. (Not on you of course) but why would they remove the video? Thats just a double whammy to whoever the fuck got rejected.

  • I hope you get a logical explanation, dude.

  • Exactly at 2:26, you look like you're stoned out of your head... Just sayin'. XD

  • Hey Brent, did you ever hear anything from Youtube on this? Doesn't what you're doing fall under Fair Use? Number 1, it's a parody, and number 2, you're not showing anything substantial from the games (i.e. no huge spoilers, etc.).

  • did they ever get back to you on this brent?

  • One thing to say, "It''s a trap!"

  • when do i get paid i have videos that they aprroved and i still get nothing?

  • so when dose youtube pay the people who do use revenue sharing? How do i get my money? Its been months..

  • lol i got a revenue thing from youtube about a tmnt thing.. at first i was like cool and then it said it HAS to be original i was like...... WTF!?!?!

  • Hi brentalfloss,

This is the exact logic that I used to make the choice not to share revenue with YouTube when I was first offered that option. Because I was uploading Bleach for 6 months and was the best at it amongst all uploaders but then didn't share revenue, they shut down not only my Bleach channel but also two other channels of mine that had nothing to do with Bleach. They are like the mob. If you don't pay while on their turf, they'll kill you. Three channels died. - PeopleDigitaL

  • Something in his brain that makes him this smart.

    Unless he's God.

    Hehe.

  • bald bastard

  • lol, youtube has gone NUTS!

  • Listen to Floss he knows what hes talking about.

  • YOU ARE TOTALY RIGHT.

  • The company, google*

  • how do i un dissable it if my youtube revenue is disabled ????? cause youtube did disable it but i wana get it active again. thanks chris

  • un-disable= enable ..... epic fail

  • yes, the double edged sword of youtube revenue sharing

  • yeah, i got a revenue sharing link too and it was really stupid cause everything on the video wasnt own

  • Wow, YouTube became really a twisted bitch. If they pull through this kind of crap, there will be A LOT less videos here, because all the walkthroughs, reviews and other stuff involving games are not allowed because one has not the ownership, or better say, allowing of the company, which is bs because on this way, you could also argue that fanarts and videos are not allowed, but that's exactly what companies like.

  • Epic fail, YouTube. Epic fail.

  • @SHADOWKNUX1 Indeed, my friend.

  • Did they get revenue sharing in the end?

  • A couple of my videos are now eligible for revenue sharing, but they are just gameplay videos I made.

  • thanks of that now I know :)

  • Personally, if I click on a video and it starts with an ad, it gets an automatic 1 star. Hopefully, by giving these videos low scores I'll be able to save other users from being exposed to the ads.

  • If only actual people ran Youtube and wasn't run by soulless bots.

But I don't think it's fair to rate videos low scores just because it has an ad. I agree that putting an ad superimposed on top of the fucking video, yeah, that's annoying, but that's Youtube's fault, not whoever made it. They should just put ads below or above the actual video. I don't care if it's embedded within the player as long as I can see the whole thing. But again, no one's listening but bots. A disturbing trend.

  • he never called them evil or any thing to that effect!

  • no but it was implied that youtube would be better off without them, which is not the case, those ads are the reason you can use youtube for free

  • @NerdKing2nd he's not saying that!!! he saying that youtube are being stupid offring him a link, which they won't let him put up.

  • no no no i not talking to brentalfloss. I talking to the guy who said he one star all videos that have revune sharing on him, i completely understand what brentalfloss is saying.

  • if you just use nes music intendo wont give a f*@ck about it becuse the licence went out in 2005 i think. sorry about spelling

  • i know i'm not someone from Youtube but you hold a very good point!

  • Sounds like YouTube trying to protect themselves.

    1. User adds revenue sharing on video containing copyrighted material.

    2. YouTube's automated software approves it.

    3. Original owner of content cries foul because someone else is making money off of their material.

    4. YouTube blames the user for making false claims on the revenue sharing request form.

No one will get sued over this though. Probably 99.9% of YouTube vids infringe a copyright in some way.

  • DAMN YOUTUBE for behing such a tease

    :[

  • thats a slap to the face!

  • Forgive me if this is a stupid question/idea, but... In high school I took a film making class. In it we had to get permission to use anything we didn't make (obviously), so we wrote to copyright holders. Couldn't you write to the copyright holders about your videos and just get permission? Or at least try to get permission? Never know, they might let you because your vids are good advertising for them. ;)

  • yay brent will have money!

  • More than one of my videos have been Muted. Which are in nature, much like videos by DasBoSchitt or the GTA Stunt videos, containing random comedic scenes with copywrited music in the background. Out of an 8 minute video containing numerous 4-15 second clips of music and sound effects of all sorts, amongst all of them was probably only one tiny segment, owned allegedly by WMG, therefore all sound is blanked. Needless to say I as well as my handful of subscribers are frustrated with this policy.

  • I never click the adds, but I will thrice on all of your videos.

  • I love you, Brentalfloss! I think Youtube just likes every video containting more than 1000 views to have that Chinchilla Day ad on it. That's all. That way, they can make money, or more business, through your hard work. I LOVE the Zelda with Lyrics video. Youtube just wants to cover their asses, but so do you, but you're actually creating the funny, so I'm on your side, dude.

  • I think Youtube has some kind of hold on all my videos... either that, or I erroneously think I'm special.

  • If they decline you will make a part 4 right? You need like a dailt video channel we need a daily dose of the floss.

  • ah hold.... hmm sounds like its time for another rebellion. Rise Youtube Viewers!

  • @brentalfloss I am going click on all your ads XD

  • @brentalfloss no you just that fucking awsome

  • Heh heh. Dude.

  • its a parody so it is legal

  • Right on, man! If YouTube actually went through any effort to do something about copyright laws, then the only videos left on its site would be the ones that suck. Watched the follow-up videos to this one and I wish you the best of luck.

  • Everyone should watch this now! If he's getting revenue sharing on it...I mean, hells yeah, BrentalFloss deserves it.

  • Oh, this is just one of the smaller things YouTube is very inconsistent about.

By the way, I assume that revenue sharing on the videos that contain 100% original material should be safe, right?

  • I don't think they're ever going to succeed at getting all the videos with any copyright content off youtube, since youtube was built on that, so I think they might as well get the big companies to negotiate with fans to make money promoting their stuff on youtube. I can't tell you how many times I went out and bought a song after hearing it for the first time on youtube.

BTW I love your tags "handsome bald guy asks thoughtful question" ^^.

  • brentalfloss

If I may comment, The one person who you might and would like to talk to is the king of all Parodies:

    "Weird" Al Yankovic.

  • What about machinama.. that all has video game stuff in it.. soo?

  • Still want to know how that cunt irategamer became a partner. "So like, I copy AVGN, k?"

  • Haha, it is a bit like if someone did a series called "Video game songs With Words" and became a partner, eh?

  • Comment removed

  • That just gives me a idea... "What if xRabbitHeadx put music to Brentalflosses Open Letter Follow-Up" ;D

  • @brentalfloss lol video game songs with words hahahahahaha i cant stop laughing srsly! XD

  • @brentalfloss check out my new songs called video game songs with words

    lol

  • @brentalfloss omg thats a great idea, can i steal that one?

  • @xRabbitHeadx He does not copy AVGN. End of discussion.

  • I can't wait for the revenue sharing reviewers to review this video ABOUT revenue sharing. That's just awesome.

  • brentalfloss is awesomeness that sings mega man music.

and hes apparently a good person to have on your side for a legal debate, too.

  • lol brental floss

  • WHERE Do i CLicks!?

  • maybe if you used original content instead of copyrighted material, you could get paid...ahem. i love megaman 2 with lyrics btw!

    Sent from my Helio Ocean

  • very professional brent (:

  • its a set up man be careful bro...

  • i think they want you out of youtube :D lol

  • They've been sending me invitations to enable revenue sharing, too - on Youtube Poops. And all the original stuff I've done on my other account is completely ignored.

Fistpump of sympathy, good sir. We await your findings.

  • Very formal mr floss im proud

  • lmao tags :)

  • Hahaha thanks for pointing that out!

  • has Youtube responded?

  • good job Floss!

  • Yeah, Youtube emails like these always seem to contradict themselves..

  • brent you rock, that's all i can say

  • lipstick!

  • Do you only do 'with lyrics' for retro games?

  • no he does other things look at his channel

  • I meant, would he be willing to do one for a newer game. I'd like to see what he would come up with for Assassin's Creed. =P

  • ahh okay sorry misunderstood but thats a good idea but i would like to hear what he would do with metal gear solid theme

  • if youtube is even bother asking you to enable revenue sharing - weather you have the rights to the stuff or not i think auto condradicts them turning you down when you applied to be a "partner" shouldnt they then just beable to accept you as a partner if they even attempt to contact you with this....just a thought

  • dude, i loled at your user name. you think they would ban you for that, yet you say you got a featured video? pray, tell me how to appease the copyright Gods and get my only music video back =(

  • I'm not sure...it may be me...but it seems like a tricky way to weed out, yet some more videos which use copyrighted material. I don't quite understand how I can have videos posted with no problem which contain copyrighted songs (including Prince songs, which is the mother of all no-nos), but I have to dispute 2 others for including the same type of media??? I've since relocated to a different site. Hope they're not trying to dick you around.

  • Brentalfloss is a pretty cool and smart guy.

  • "handsome bald guy asks thoughtful question"

    I lol'ed so hard

  • Lemme know how it all works out, Brent. I love your videos, I love the work you do, and I'd hate to see it get ballsed up by YouTube.

  • Damn, you have such a pleasing voice

  • I, myself, have videos that YouTube has asked me to enable revenue sharing, when I clearly cannot do, since Nintendo, McDonalds, or Capcom wouldn't(?) let me do. Like you said, if they wouldn't mind me promoting their product, then by all means, sign me up.

  • Makes total sense, dude...egad!!! Youtube is sometimes quite confusing! For instance, how do vids get featured?? If you have any hints, I'd greatly appreciate it. Hope all works out for you, bro'.

  • featured videos can work in couple different ways it seems..... either you've already been hit with a type of "copyright" notice and they havent disable your video they may "feature" if the copyrighted material is owned by one of their partners (i've had a single featured video for my Ghostbusters AMV) either that or i think if your a "partner" or your videos are very popular they may get "featured" at least thats what i think - but the 1st example is true :P

  • Gooooooo....YOUTUBE!

  • I sure hope things work out int the end, Brent!

  • Brentalfloss, try checking the Youtube help Forums if this video thing doesn't work out.

  • handsome bald guy asks thoughtful question

  • Youtube sucks now. They should just call it "TheirTube".

  • tags: handsome bald guy asks thoughtful question

    LOL'D HARD

  • You just dont get it.

  • Comment removed

  • They won't ban you for copyrighted material. At most they MAY ban you for way too many videos with copyrighted music. But I have like 15+ videos with video recording of copyrighted material and I haven't even gotten a warning.

  • Youtube is more focused on videos that they offer to pay u for or "revenue share" and they will pay closer attention to copyrights of those videos regular ones cause they can be sued for it. So, does youtube pay you for posting those 15+ vides?? chances are they dont cause they dont bother to remove them for containing licensed material.

  • I know that but I was responding to some other comment that said that he may get band for openly telling them that his videos have copyrighted material in a open letter. And that's where my comment came in.

I swear youtube's comment system needs a complete makeover.

  • ohh i see

  • They should already know? It's kind of obvious.

Youtube never takes action unless prompted to by someone. eg: A copyright holder or a user who finds material offensive.

  • Hey brentalfloss,

I'd change the title of this video to "An Open Letter to Google" just because right now it's kind of misleading and it won't be viewed by Google. I'd also send Google an email referring to this video, but you probably already did that. ;)

  • Why not contact Nintendo directly? Then if they approve something thats promoting their video especially by a famous guy, you can forward the email to youtube.

  • Yet another "Copyright vs. Fair Use" dilemma. I think your works should be interpreted as transformative as they have a different purpose than the original work and have a lot of original content . The parody elements also help the "with lyrics" tunes fall under fair use. There is also no negative effect on the value of the original work (except MM7 LOL).

Yeah, you wouldn't happen to have any lawyers as friends? They could probably tell quite easily if it was safe to enable this thing.

  • whats happened to youtube... i miss how it used to be. a site where u can post and watch any videos

  • 3 years of Google bullshit, that's what happened to Youtube, or as I now call it "GoogleTube"

  • Google happened, Otenko. Google Happened.

  • I wish that when Youtube sent stuff like this, it wouldn't be just some automated pre-written page, and it were to be SPECIFICALLY towards you. That would overall helps many members trying to become Partners on Youtube.

  • The only reason you are getting these enable revenue sharing messsages is becase its automated and those vids have alot of veiws, and they wanna CASH IN.

  • Its still Bullshit, people make parodys all the time, and that is essentially what your w/ lyrics vids are, a PARODY of a song, and these people, Ijustine, Shane Dawson, they make money, its all Bullshit.

  • Hmmm...

Anyways Ijustine is awesome. She is funny! :<

  • They probably don't make money off of those videos though. This seems like the way Youtube has chosen to go around copyrighting. By only paying for totally original content. And then you can obviously have unoriginal content on your chanel but it wont give you money.

  • Did you get a response from Youtube?

They should be a little more specific on their whole ad stuffs.

  • Hope a Youtube member sees this. I support you 100% floss.

  • You should do a personal letter or an e-mail letter you get an answer alot faster if you did it that way.

  • How do you know I haven't yet?

  • Kudos on the respectfulness of your v-letter, I really hope youtube gets this

  • Second comment.

Nintendo probably doesn't authorize it. Nintendo got pissed when someone recolored Mario and had it as a logo! XD

  • There's a difference between promoting Nintendo and using Nintendo to promote yourself.

  • 'Cos Nintendo doesn't support unoriginal bullshit :P

  • :D. I hope you get Revenue Sharing, Brentalfloss!

  • lol fuck you youtube fuck you

  • the site is really sloppy when u think about it and they keep updating things that are just pointless like the homepage, channel designs, i mean really

  • Acbar: IT'S A TRAP!

  • Lmfao

  • Ackbar: IT'S A TRAP!!!

  • interesting.

  • you're the man!!!

hope u get away with it ;)

  • I'd laugh if YouTube asked to put Revenue Sharing on this video.

  • Lol, so would I xD

  • Conspiracy!

  • rable rable rable rable! only kidding :]

  • It was nice known Floss, Youtube will probably ban him now :D

  • who actualy runs youtube....

  • Hey Brent, aren't parodies (or reviews) of copyrighted allowed to earn revenues on the internet?

Since you are doing exactly that with your ...with lyrics series, that shouldn't be a problem, should it?

  • actualy you are allowed to make a parody and make money off it its the fair use agreement law!

  • Theres a difference between a parody and a music video. :p

  • where exactly? I know if you change more than 70 percent of the music it's considered your own song but does that count for parodies?

  • yeah, like Weird Al.

  • yup! :D

  • excellent question!

  • brentalpower!!!

  • Brentalfloss: 1

    YouTube: 0

    This is hilarious.

  • LMAO XDDDD

  • Are you blind? They're doing it on purpose, duh. Trying to get you to admit the copyrighted material is being used so they can take it down.
