  • Toussaint was a woman!

  • Marius reminds me of a young Michael Jackson here...

  • It's not the money I want.

    What, then?

    You.

  • @songbird71795 It's actually quite close to the parody by french humorists "Les Inconnus" ; you can find excerpts of it here with english subtitles : youtube.com/watch?v=Cegf3mR3qGE

  • eeeewww marius is …creepy looking! the part when Gavroche recognizes Javert (and the music choice) was absolutely hilarious!!! awesome vid!

  • KAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! OW! 3:30 makes my stomach hurt sooo much!!! HAHAHA!!

  • @ToBeFree32 Eponine was supposed to be ugly, she was poor and missing some teeth, so it said. I cried at the parts of Eponine and Fantine in the book. I also sobbed at the death of Enjolras and Grantaire. And then there was the end of the novel itself, which was completely heart breaking. The Liam Neeson version took it all away. Fantine was an Americanized whore, I can never say I felt bad for her at any time. Enjolras, Eponine, and Grantaire are removed. And the end never actually happened.

  • @allthemusic111 (Continued) Enjolras is all that is honourable and valiant and brave - I applaud him for fighting for what he believes in. I think Cosette is more naive than anything, not necessarily bitchy. Other than Thernardier, there is no "bad guy" in this story. Both Javert and Valjean believe they are doing the right thing. Valjean is protecting those he loves, and Javert is attempting to keep the law - both men are right. Javert dies because he cannot comprehend grace.

  • @TheOnlyMissLaurey i agree with allthemusic. The 1998 is pretty bad. The characters are overdramazied, they take out my two fav characters, Eponine, Enjolras. I think they did the characters badly in the other one. Cosette was a stuck up bitch, like atm said, lol atm. Javert was a complete evil bad guy, that's not realistic. The Thenardiers were as good as removed. Fantine was an ugly whore, I felt no pity for her. And then Gavroche was an annoying little kid. Plus, the movie was Americanized

  • @allthemusic111 I appreciate your viewpoint, but I politely disagree. Yes, the Liam Neeson film is shorter and hence less back story on people, but the characters are far more realistic and the relationships less disturbing. Eponine is my favourite character in the whole story (aside from Valjean of course) and I love the way she is developed in the musical. (Continued)

  • calm down people. Any person in their right mind would know that the 1998 is ten times more innacurate than this. I like this mini series, cause it actually comes close to accuracy

  • this is like the anti Liam Neeson version. It's accurate, includes almost all the characters and the barricade scene is very exciting. This is the best version there is (minus Marius being ugly) but it's better than that Gothic midget they chose in the other version.

  • Very masculine, Javert. Very masculine.

  • Wow...just...wow. XD;;;; Javert looks like the childcatcher from chitty chitty bang bang when he has the black hair going one, Jean has HUGE shoulders, and Marius's face...well...just look at it! O_O; That and the whole incestual thing they randomly put in between Cosette and Jean here is totally WTF.

  • 2:50 it's The Polar Express!!!!

  • I actually quite like this adaptation for its sheer WTFery. This video doesn't even begin to capture the weirdness. Very entertaining, though. :P

  • I really like how Javert kills himself in this actually.

  • Does Valjean have a brother? Or is Fauchelevant just an old friend? Sorry, I'm not very good at remembering names x)

  • @AeroTheGreen Valjean poses as Fauchelevant's brother while he works in the convent and afterwards but they arn't actually related.

  • LMAO!! Ok first off, I thought this was the English/Liam Neeson version of Les Mis when I clicked on it. Didn't know there was another! Secondly, the video totally had me giggling, esp with the Marvin Gaye put in there! Haha!! Very strange moments, esp Valjean saying he loves Cosette and Jarvet's suicide (he just leisurely *strolls* into the water?? lol) And last but not least, OMG I didn't expect to see Riccardo Broschi playing Marious!!!!!!!! LoL!!!!!

  • This version was soooooo bad...Marius is a poncy girl, Valjean's a pedo, and Enjolras is jumping around on Maruis' bed like a 3 year old. John Malkovich did an alright job as being a creepy Javert....however my loyalty lies with the musical and the Liam Neeson/Geoffrey Rush version of the movie. I just hope they make a movie of the musical :)

  • @TheOnlyMissLaurey

I think they are! Cameron Mackintosh has signed up to make one!

  • @TheOnlyMissLaurey they are planning to do one in 2013 and they are trying to get matt lucas to do the master of the house because he did an amazing job in the 25th annervirsery and i tottaly agree with you i have never been more shocked when valjean told marius that he loved corsett and marius is UGLY

  • @TheOnlyMissLaurey So you like no Eponine or Enjolras? You like Javert being a fucking bad guy? How about the non-back story on fantine and Cosette being some stuck up bitch. If you ask me, I prefer this one. And at least this Javert had emotions and wasn't evil until he fucking died for no reason. If you say that, you need to get a life.

  • "Your old brother! I knew I'd find you!" Wtf?!

  • Thank you so much for dissuading me from watching the series. Instead of spending so much time on watching it that I get angry when nonsense happens, I'm sitting here laughing until I cry. WHY O WHY are Enjolras and Marius having a pajama party!? Why is Marius apparently imported from Sicily or somewhere? WHY is little Cosette flirting with her father? Why do Marius and Valjean *both* have a creepy thing with fondling and smelling Cosette? And WHY does everybody wear leather?

  • Awww, Loony. They took the audio off again, dammit! But seriously, after reading your review of this of FF, I had to come see this and...uh...wow. You weren't kidding about Marius. And what the hell is up with Enjolras' PJs. Oh, God. This, this is how they decided to dress the fierce and terrifying Enjolras?! And I'm not even going to touch on Marius groping Cosette's face or Valjean's "I love her." Shudders.

  • Valjean falls in love with Cosette in this mini series? What horror!!! Who invent such madness? o_O Definitely this mini series is a fraud! I prefer the musical and the 1998 movie, where Valjean is a honorable man as in the novel.

  • I forget...was there ever a subtitled version of the 6-hour French version of this?

  • You forgot to include the part where Marius insists that Cosette and him stay in the garden all night... ha ha ha.

The part with Gavroche and Javert and then, of course, Javert and Jean Valjean... they were so bad-- yet they made me laugh so hard!!

  • ha ha ha ha Javert the homo

  • tis manas sou vradiatika

  • omigosh sexy music???? xD

    NICE ONE

  • poor poor Marius -sigh-

  • The sexy music. Oh god, I just became unhinged with laughter.

And Marius looks like he fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

  • yeah definitely this version is much better than Les Miserables 1998.I just think this is closer to the book ,of course they're diffirent.I like very much french which is the authentic language of Les Miserables.Vive la France, vive la revolution francaise!!!!!<3

  • Come on! I can't believe how ignorant you people are. How can someone be so insensitive and foolish? "Les miserables" is one of the best treasures of literature and human history. Not only because of its social commitment, but the splendid pictures Victor Hugo created only with words and feelings. This cinematographic version, is probably the best one that's been released... but I guess I'm loosing my time with all of you! P.S. Who cares if the actors are hot or not?! Don't be ridiculous!

  • wow, the u.s version was so different, but i think i like it better, just because of the actor choice.

  • The sleepover scene.....um.....When Enjy first goes over to the bed....he puts his hand on Marius' knee. Yeeeeeah.

This movie seems to be full of sexual undertones. JVJ/Cosette...Marius/Gavroche...Enjy/Marius...Marius freaking "caressing" Cosette's face...ew.

Thanks for making the video so I now know I don't want to see the miniseries.

  • @MlleImparfait do not disdain the miniseries only by the small sample that was shown. Someone that did not read the book may misunderstand the words of Valjean when he says that he loves Cosette. Of course he loves her, he is a lonely man without a family and she loves him unconditionally. In the book Valjean never had a girlfriend so, what he knows about sexual love is nothing! Even in the miniserie we can see that the jealousy he feels of Marius is the jealousy of a lonely man not of a lover!

  • I have read the book. And in ch, 3 (Two Misfortunes Equal One Happiness) of Book 4 of Cosette, it says that Valjean loves Cosette like a mother. And while he has been chaste and not had a lover, Valjean knows what happens in the world. I think he would be able to identify what was sexual love/lust for Cosette and what was parental love. Besides, I seriously doubt that book!Valjean would ever admit to Marius that he loved Cosette not as a father. That was my complaint, that it is just so OOC.

  • Gavroche is so damn hot !!! :D

  • ughh, that has got to be the worst possible way to depict Javert's death. especially with the hat, because it's in his character to take it off. he wouldnt want it to be all ~poetic and such.

  • I know, right? He just *walks* into the water? XD I dunno...I like the jumping!

  • i love love love when he just falls backward!

  • UGH! Marius looks like someone kicked him in the face with a cleet as a baby! (After someone dropped him on his head)

  • Super idea and super music.

  • i love this version of the movie

  • Yes he is but I can only think of him as Jacquouille la fripouille. "Okaaaaaay! Dingue! Okaaay!"

  • "Nobody move" - ROFLMAO!!!!!!

This is the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. Um... Marius sniffing the hanky and later saying, "I'm caressing you" - creepy much? HAHA.

And Javert just... WALKING into the river to drown himself!? WTF

I think I need to watch this miniseries... the laughs would add years to my life... HAHAHA!

  • I laugh until I cry every time I see this.

Highlights (er, lowlights): Marius sniffing the hanky; Gavroche's innapropriate gaze (literal lol); and the barricade boy sleepover (Enjolras' PJs crack me up tremendously).

  • In effect I'm Italian, I shouldn't say that but Enrico Lo Verso (Marius), is pretty ugly... I don't like the movie-version for this reason, I LOVED THE BOOK!

  • ho comprato il dvd qualke girono fa e quando ho visto Marius mi è venuto un colpo...meno male che doveva essere un ragazzo bellissimo XD e a peggiorare le cose,c'è la sua AGGHIACCIANTE recitazione XDDDD

Anyway,if it's not a very well made version,I think that John Malkovich is a very good Javert:Christian Clavier as Thenardier, too.

  • I loved this version.

  • marius is kind of a creeper...

    and javert...

    and valjean...

    and eponine...

    they are all creepers

we are watching this in my ap french class and i dont think i will be able to finish it now because i will just keep hearing "lets ge it on" whenever javert enters!!

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE... And I love Jean Valjean... he's so... sweet *_* He loved Cosette but... that was sad... I cried when I saw that ç_ç very nice movie even if a bit different from the novel.

  • marius is portrayed by..sanjaya??o.0 xD I LOVED 3:28-3:46 and 4:24 - 5:00 especially the drowning moment! suicide la di da LETS GET IT OOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!

  • Rotfl! And what the bleep happened, why did they cast this chick to play Marius?? He so ugly as a mud fence daubed with tadpoles.. fo shizzle

  • maybe he has an interesting personality (lol)

  • Jeanne Moreau in here as well.

  • Valjean loves Cosette? What a crab! I've read the book (I LOVE the book and the musical!!) But whats that? And why looks Eponine so cheap?

  • no,read the book more carefully,he does say that,he loves cosette as a wife,as a lover, mother, sister, friend, she is the female element that was missing from his life.

That's what he means,in the book at least

  • I don't believe he ever says that and certainly not to Marius; it implies at certain points in the book that she is all those things but, to Marius, Valjean says he is but a passer to Cosette. xXx

  • well,of course,he doesn't say it to marius,actually he just thinks it.anyways,this was clearly a shitty version

  • I have a technical question - I have the English dub version and was looking to put my 'highlights' on YouTube, but I have no idea how to get the video from the DVD into a format that I can edit on my computer. Can someone help me out please? Thanks heaps!

  • 3:28-3:46 made me almost fall off my chair. NICE. :D

  • 1:37-1:50 - No, that's not creepy at all.

    0:39-0:44 - WTF?

0:46-1:00 - So, I take it she isn't there because she had a nightmare, huh?

2:24-2:31 - Watching that was like trying to down a straight cup of high fructose corn syrup.

2:50-3-22 - 0_o I initally thought you had put a different show in there. Then, I realized it was a man sleepover. On second thought, Marius was probably too busy sniffing Cosette's hanky to do anything to Enjolras. Poor Enjolras.

  • Is is just me, or have the makers of this miniseries taken all of the creepy/stalkerish things that Marius did, that were supposed to be adorable/sweet/pathetic, and made them look as creepy as they looked in print?

  • Hmm you wonder if the screen writers ever read the book lol Valjean/Cosette is sooo wrong, Javert's suicide is quite ridiculous, Eponine looks mad and why on Earth do Marius and Enjolras have a sleepover?!?

  • Haha, I'm with Skrimner--wasn't the whole point that there was an undertow in the river? Wading in...why? Whoever mentions baptism will be shot.

In any case, the sight of Malkovich marching into the Seine until only his hat remains is funny even without the inspired score.

  • Enjolras/Marius, anybody?

    OMG "I love Cosette". WHY?

Poor Javert, he seems so bored.

  • I've always been utterly baffled by the Valjean/Cosette stuff in this version. WHY? WHY?????

  • Ugh! This miniseries was AWFUL - they completely missed the spiritual heart of the novel and BUTCHERED it! Cosette and Valjean in bed??? But then, I've only seen the English dubbed 3-hour version - anyone know if the 6-hour French one is any better?

  • Wow. That was hilarious. I started giggling madly at the first song, and burst into hysterics at the second...

    Very nicely done!

    *Sythar

  • I have read this book...it is my favorite!

  • Marius est un rampeur...! XD

  • That's a rather unpleasant way to drown yourself....It makes you wonder why he didn't try something easier...say...jumping off a bridge? (hint hint)

  • I think to emphasize his sense of clear-cut conviction, even in his auto-execution?

  • Well . . . it's got . . . eye candy? *sob*

Oh, and what's the Weird Al song you have playing? It's catchy.

  • Hee, I really hope that by "eye candy" you mean Virginie Ledoyen and not teh Fugly...

  • Her and Asia Argento. :P

  • And while I'm in a questioning mood, why doesn't YouTube have italics so one doesn't have to resort to CAPITALS or (heaven forbid) *asterisks* for emphasis?

  • In old typewriter tradition, _this is italics_, *this is bold* and THIS IS UNDERLINED. not sure if that might help =\

  • Ok...I read a review describing this as one of the more accurate adaptations. Query: Did the reviewer ever read the book?

Is that Gavroche evesdropping at the Gorbeau house with Marius? And why are Enjolras and Marius camping out in a printing office? Does the disgusted look on Javert's face as he marches into the Seine mean he knows what a fool he's making of himself?

On the upside, Cosette looks really sweet and pretty. Too bad she couldn't have played the part in a better version.

  • I am having the worst tim locating this on amasozn, when I need subtitles to understand it. Any other suggestions as to where I can get it? Please!

  • eBay for sure... I, uh, have no idea why I typed amazon in that other comment as I got mine off eBay, not amazon... *shakes head sadly*

Anyway, to get some rarer goodies you have to troll eBay constantly. Which is often dangerous, as there are many other shiny things there.

Alternatively, try googling "Les Miserables" Depardieu English dub DVD and go from there.

  • does anyone know where can I find the full movie?

  • I got mine off amazon. The full movie is only available in French sans subtitles, though. If you're not familiar with the language, there's also an apparently hilarious English dub that's been drastically shortened.

  • French sans subtitles, eh? LOL. I got mine from torrents... it's basic french.

  • Oh my god! You killed Fachelevant! Enjolras fucking Fachelevant!

    That's not right!!!!

  • that's not a french guy, since when marius was a moor?

  • Okay...Is Jean Valjean, like, in love with Cosette? That is soooo wrong.

  • it's more like an obsession for him. he sees cosette as his daughter. he may have loved fantine, actually in that way, but not cosette. haven't you read the book?

  • Yes, I have read the book. I know that Valjean didn't really want Cosette to leave him for Marius (in the book), because she was like his daughter. I was asking if Valjean is romantically interested in her in this adaptation (not in the book).

  • Yeah, he was. Creepy, eh?

  • @booklover181 Were I Cosette, I would NEVER fall in love with Marius if he had a nose and creepy smile like that...

  • I don't believe he ever did love Fantine it was more a deep pity derived from his magnanimous nature surely. I don't think there is any sexual love in the book at all, Hugo even ensures that one doesn't look at Marius' and Cosette's love in that way until the very end. xXx

  • The music during Gavroche's and Javert's little staring contest is utterly perfect.

  • ive got this on dvd! i like it!

  • totally loved it.. im from mexico and i saw it complete with spanish subtitles, and it was great... i wish there could be more videos of this version, cause its awsome, and i find marius (enrico lo verso) totally totallyy hot :D

specialy when he first mets cosette

    thnx for uploading!

  • Do You know if I can find this moive in English??????????!!

  • Sort of. There's a dubbed version that surfaces on eBay every once in a while, but from what I understand it's atrocious. And it's been heavily abridged. I've been told that the dubbed Enjolras has a heavy German accent, and that he screams, "Let's build a barricade! Yay!" at some point...

  • Oh...wow...never mind then..... Lol...

  • Teehee. As non-Enjolras-y as that is, it's pretty cute.

  • "Let's build a barricade! Yay!"

Why did that statement make me think of Kermit the frog? Ha! The images! XD There are tears in my eyes!

  • This is so wrong but I love it...

  • Erin, this is wrong ... on soooo many levels ... hahahhahaahahha. Umm.

  • this video is really wierd

  • *shudder* So much of that seemed skeevy and wrong. Guh.

  • alright, so in the 1935 version, Marius is TOTALLY HOT. valjean looks distinguished, javert looks fugly & stupid, and cosette look sweet.

  • Agreed... except Valjean is also TOTALLY HOT. In my opinion. Marius is cute... but Valjean... mmmmFredericMarchhhhh.

  • Ok, Marius is stupendously ugly, Javert dies in the most hilarious way possible, Enjolras reminds me more of Jehan than Enjolras, the slash writes itself and the sexy music just killed me.

    For the last few seconds

    JVJ: No...

    ME: Don't say it...

    JVJ I LOVE Cosette

    ME: AGHHHHH WTF NOOOO

UGLY MARIUS: I think it'd be best if you left

    ME: TOO RIGHT, FUGLY!!!

Nicely done. Stops me having to watch the whole thing myself!

  • ahhh slashy goodies for all!!! marius is sanjaya. and i was seriously considering tracking down who wrote this script for being a perverted incestuous rape maniac D:< but i must admit....the floaing hat made it WORTH it

  • dude, it was a noble lie, get a hint. He says to Marius "I need to distance myself from Cosette, and I can't bear to do it on my own, I will need your help." Marius dismisses him, and then he says "well, I love cosette." Marius responds with, yes, like a father, and he hesitates for a second before saying "non, I love Cosette." And than Marius proceeds to kick him of their lives, just like Valjean intended.

  • p.s. I thought it was a long time coming that a movie portray the actual ending of the book instead of the disneyfied version of "hey they got married, how sweet, the end" we get here in the states.

  • Ummm, it's pretty clear even from this clip - now soundless! - that the filmmakers intended some weird Oedipidus thing here ... just watch the scene in the bed again. You're in denial.

  • Hey it sure was a great story though, I'm sure we all agree on that!

  • That was so hilarious! Probably all the moreso because I've read your fic, but since I can't speak French very well and have been watching the French version, the subtitles are very useful!

  • Now that Javert's dead, can I have his hat?

  • If you're willing to go fish it out of the Seine... sure!

  • Oh. My. GOD. This video is an epic win. I hope my apt. mate will forgive me for waking her up due to my loud laughter. Win, win, 2460WIN!

  • Valjean/Cosette?

I think I'm going to cry.

  • I am suitably horrified.

But I'm also laughing hysterically, so it's all good. xD

  • 2:08 makes me think of Disney's Beauty and the Beast with that dress.

I am so not watching this movie.

  • Is that "I have no idea what you're talking about" your favorite quote? No offense, but he really doesn't look like a teddy bear to me. ANd all those.... disturbing parts... wer fantabulously funny. And Javert's swim/walk/suicide was the funniest thing I have ever seen.I am SO faving this video. Plus, you REALLY didn't add any music? That is also disturbing. Anyway, you are my hero, idol, all that stuff. TTFN!

  • *hugs*

Um... okay, I admit... I might have kinda sorta added the Weird Al song and 'Let's Get it On'...

And I have to explain that my Depardieu love stems from "Cyrano de Bergerac." *nods* It's amazing. Also "The Last Holiday" and "Asterix et Obelix"... and stuff. He is win.

Augh, why do I feel compelled to respond to every comment on these videos? I should get that impulse under control...

  • Replying to every comment is awesome! It makes everyone love you!

  • *replying*

    Yay! Now I am loved.

  • Depardieu was great in VATEL as well!!
