i was always able to select them in one of the 2D viewports. They light up if you do. Then you can right-click and delete. You need to rebuild geometry before you see the effect
@ClementineFlFlFl switch to 3d wireframe, select, delete then rebuild. You can also select them in the 3d textured view by holding down shift and clicking on the intrusive brush
The textures come included with Unreal tournament. If you use a different Uengine game, you should have other texture packs. Open any .utx file from the texture browser to see if you got textures you can work with. Whatever game you have, all .utx texture files should be in a /textures foldes
@Hivenik you can import any texture you want from the texture window (file/import) if: it is a pcx or bmp format. it has a resolution of 128x128 or 256x256 etc. ive made tons of custom textures this way. you can also use texture packs from games like Rune (it uses utx texture packs)

I think you need to reset your viewports. It should be under view->viewports in the top dropdown menus. It should give you a menu where you can pick 4 different viewport configurations. Pick one, and u should get your viewports back
hey i cant edit the verticies and it's annoying because im editing a map and the cube piece has an angle on one of the sides and i cant get it back to a normal cube/rectangular prism
Could be that your interface isn't set up properly. I wouldnt know where to start fixing it though, maybe under view. Your interface doesn't look at all like the video?

That's pretty weird. Did it open up something usable? If my memory serves me right, crypt, crypt2, UTtech1, are also usable packages. The map will look a bit different but that's not huge problem
I know it's possible to import models and skins, and with Uscript u can achieve a lot of stuff as well, but i've never used any of that. I only made maps =]
I don't have UED installed, i don't work with it anymore. Uscript is integrated into the editor, but you'd have to find external guides to see how it works. I don't have a clue really
you could buy unreal tournament 99 from steam. Though i must say the game itself is pretty much dead. Unfortunately, UT2004 and UT3 aren't doing good either. Might be worth it for the practice, but i dont expect any maps to be played much
hold down ctrl, then hold leftmouse and drag. The axis of rotation depends on which viewport ur working in. With 3d viewport you can hold left, right, and both mouse buttons to rotate about different axes, but i've never used that.
I know there are many many skins in the UTX texture files. I gues what you could do is export them, edit them, then import the result and use that as a skin. Though if you want to create skins from scratch for instance that's gonna be annoying as hell
The easiest way is to get the entire game, so you get all it's textures. There is a tedious way to import bitmaps as your own textures, but that means you need some pictures that make decent textures.
Ok man, i add a cube, increase the area to what ever, hit subtract, and the hole thing turns to a red color, and not blue, i add texture but is red and when i play it it has the texture and the first i watched this and built with it, i was in the map, and killing bots and etc. but now i enter my map and i keep dying and dying and left a small crater. WTF! i know its not you, but i need a more specific tutorial. please reply.
I don't completely understand the problem i think. If you leave a small crater when you spawn, but otherwise the map is fine, you must probably rebuild the geometry. Adding a few more playerstarts could also help.

what should happen is that you start out with a red builder cube. When you hit substract, you can see a brown wireframe added to the map. This wireframe becomes visible in your 2d viewports if you drag the original red builder cube away.
I think your 3d viewport is not set up correctly. There are 5 small buttons that all look like cubes on the top of your 3d viewport. Ensure that of these 5, either the third or fourth is selected.
hehe, it's always a tad hard to find out what's going on with just YT replies, sorry it took me a while to figure it out ^^ anyway, when you get to adding lights, make sure you got the 4th cube selected in your editor, and you "rebuild all", instead of "rebuild geometry". You should then be able to see lights properly in UED as well. When you got that working, switch back to mode 3. Then you got a clear idea of the difference between cube 3 and 4 =] GL mate!
@antalz what do you mean by "4th cube" and when i want to add a moon, is it better on a sheet or a thin cube? oh yeah, when i tried to put a moon on a sheet, there were 4 moons, not one. any idea? this UT editer stuff is confusing.

Anyway, you'd want to add a moon as a sheet. when you've done that, rightclick the moon texture, and go to texture properties. Under alignment scale it up to 2, and under properties tick "masked". Im preparing an exam at the moment, but i can give you a more detailed walkthrough about some stuff over private message if you'd like. Making sky is quite tricky actually...
@antalz thanks for that, and the sky is hard. I am trying to make a night sky with stars and they don't show up, and if you already added or subtracted a shape and want to like "edit" it without pressing undo how do select it for editing?
For the stars, you should browse around for a texture that has stars in it, and apply that to some surface. Then under it's surface properties, tick "unlit". You can't really modify the shapes in ur map. You can apply textures and mess with the surface properties, but the shape itself is set in stone really... You basically delete the bad shape and replace it with a good one
@antalz I am building a bunny track and at since i know how to do all the building, how do you 'put' in music into the map? there is a music browser but i can input it in any possible way to me. you rock at this stuff
on the very top of your editor, the dropdown menus, go view->level properties. There you can set the game type (actor->info->levelinfo, i think) to make your map BT, and you can somewhere also set the music to the track you want.
If you're going to set gametype to BT, first make sure you have the BT .u files loaded, otherwise the BT game type will not show up in your actor browser. You could also load a pre-existing BT map to make the BT game type show up
well.. its not red..or brown.. i hit minus.. nothing.. i click the wireframe.. nothing... aka No blue Cube.. its a blue wireframe..i try adding a cube.. it adds it.. just i cant move it... same with any other things on it..

Your editor seems a bit messed up. Im assuming you start out with the red wireframe? When you hit substract a blue cube appears? When u click the wireframe, does it "light up"? If you hold leftmouse and drag, does ur red wireframe move? Is it still the red wireframe moving when u hold control+leftmouse and drag?
What im saying is that... i cant go to 436... cause if i try... it wont work... and plus if i try moving the wireframe (blue thing) or w/e it wont move... i have 451.. and Skins and mods work fine.. just this is failing.. and Dedicated server fails to..
The wireframe shouldnt be blue, i think you pressed "add" by mistake. You need to hit the substract button, it makes a brown wireframe. Also, to move a cube around you need to hold down control, i think i go over that stuff later in the vid

You could download a new version with the 436 patch. I'm not sure on the legal situation in your country though, but, as far as i'm aware, in holland downloading itself is legal, and using the software is legal because you had the license already.

Part 2 isn't coming unfortunately. I still remember much about the editor though, so you can always ask specific questions.
It's called unreal editor 2.0 because that's what it is. The editor i'm using shipped with unreal tournament 99. The unreal editor 3.0, for UT2004/U2 is a bit more complicated than this one, because of volumes, antiportals, terrain and static meshes. Luckily though, there are many tutorials on those topics on the web.
view>viewports>configure, select any viewport layout you'd like. The blue one is the 3d viewport, the others are top front and side. View is one of the dropdown menus waaay at the top
when i go to Textures and go to open, and try to load ShaneChurch (or any, for that matter) The top scroll menu where the name of the .utx is is blank, and "aforce1 (64x64)" is displayed on the bar at the top (where minimize/close is)

@antalz I found the problem. You can change what view you want in each of the four windows, there's "Top", "Front" and "Side". The window down the left corner was set to view "BSP Cuts", I changed it to "Dynamic Light". Now that everything works, I'll keep following your tutorials. =)

I think it does. You can see the buttons in the tutorial. At the start, the 3d viewport [black with few blue lines] shows a row of buttons to its top: a joystick, 3 buttons marked T, F and S, and then the 5 little cubes, I'm not sure this makes a difference. It sounds like you have the left-most cube selected. You should have the third or fourth.
Could also be ur using the wrong button. The substract button ur pushing right?
@antalz I have the "Lit" cube and the "P" selected. But like I said before, I am using the UT3 editor. Is therre anything else that I need to select? Also, I am pressing "CSG: Subtract". Is that the same thing as subtract?
Exactly = ] Like adding the light in the tut. Usually, you use substracting to get the main outline of a level straight, and use additive thingies to get the detailwork in
Nice tutorial, but I'm having a problem now. I've already completed this tutorial once, but now when I start UnrealEd 2.0 again I can't move the camera.. :S (camera movement is selected).

remember to patch the game. The game itself ships with UED 1.5, but one of the patches turns it into 2.0. If ur editor is stuck, patching to v436 might work [u need 436 to play online anyway nowadays]
if the ed came in a pach like it does in the game land of the dead, then reinstall that patch and try it. if it came on the game then replace the files from with the files that the ed uses that are on the game disc....should fix the problem. hope this helps ya.
Not sure what you mean by saved brush. I always exported my brushes to some file type, and then imported them into another map. Always worked as far as i can remember
I never figured out how to make that thing throw really far though, and in the game itself that thing is only used in AS-Overlord... An entire class made just for one map.
if you got the full game, you should have dozens of packages. Please note that each package can contain groups. So if you open shanechurch, there might be a number of groups. I ignore them all-together, press the "all" button in the texture browser.
place the light actor, rebuild lighting, and make sure your viewport is set to dynamic lighting, or somsuch, and not geometry. There are 6 3D viewport settings, 2 show the world as you'd see it, one in unlit mode, one with lighting. Fiddle around with those buttons, after youve rebuilt lighting, and you should get a result.
Or rebuild lighting and play the level. Rebuild all will do geometry and lighting in one go for you
like i cant look around my map , this makes it extremely hard to make a map. also when u clicked on the cube tool u got to pick how big it becomes that doesn't happen with me.

Hi thanks antalz just to let you know i made a level like a cave with lava, waterfalls and lots of rocky terrain, but thanks for the ideas i researched them a lot.
yeah its going good, dim in most places and a few cylinder light down the cavern pillars, even added a cool waterfall in it and the sounds r really realistic. Its coming along well :)

I don't have UT anymore on hard disk, and the textures for UT99 are largely bad for unreal2 anyway.

Part 2 isn't coming unfortunately. I still remember much about the editor though, so you can always ask specific questions.
It's called unreal editor 2.0 because that's what it is. The editor i'm using shipped with unreal tournament 99. The unreal editor 3.0, for UT2004/U2 is a bit more complicated than this one, because of volumes, antiportals, terrain and static meshes. Luckily though, there are many tutorials on those topics on the web.

when i go to Textures and go to open, and try to load ShaneChurch (or any, for that matter) The top scroll menu where the name of the .utx is is blank, and "aforce1 (64x64)" is displayed on the bar at the top (where minimize/close is)

@antalz I found the problem. You can change what view you want in each of the four windows, there's "Top", "Front" and "Side". The window down the left corner was set to view "BSP Cuts", I changed it to "Dynamic Light". Now that everything works, I'll keep following your tutorials. =)

At the 3d viewport there are 6 little cube icons on the top, for BSP cuts, zoning, dynamic lighting and some other bits. Select dynamic lighting.
Is your cube solid red, or is the wireframe red?

I think it does. You can see the buttons in the tutorial. At the start, the 3d viewport [black with few blue lines] shows a row of buttons to its top: a joystick, 3 buttons marked T, F and S, and then the 5 little cubes, I'm not sure this makes a difference. It sounds like you have the left-most cube selected. You should have the third or fourth.
Could also be ur using the wrong button. The substract button ur pushing right?

Another bug i never had myself. Try naming your map DM-something or CTF-Something. Then fire up UT itself, and check if ur map works.

remember to patch the game. The game itself ships with UED 1.5, but one of the patches turns it into 2.0. If ur editor is stuck, patching to v436 might work [u need 436 to play online anyway nowadays]

I found the solution. Apparently version 451 fucks up your unrealed 2.0 and you can't move the camera for some weird reason...
version 436 works just fine :)

if the ed came in a pach like it does in the game land of the dead, then reinstall that patch and try it. if it came on the game then replace the files from with the files that the ed uses that are on the game disc....should fix the problem. hope this helps ya.

Not sure what you mean by saved brush. I always exported my brushes to some file type, and then imported them into another map. Always worked as far as i can remember

I figured it out. Apparently Export/Import works like a load/save feature.
I used to make maps years ago, but I wanted to make a new one. So I wanted to learn somethings to make map building faster.
I did build a cannon with a mortar spawner in front of it. LOL

if you got the full game, you should have dozens of packages. Please note that each package can contain groups. So if you open shanechurch, there might be a number of groups. I ignore them all-together, press the "all" button in the texture browser.

place the light actor, rebuild lighting, and make sure your viewport is set to dynamic lighting, or somsuch, and not geometry. There are 6 3D viewport settings, 2 show the world as you'd see it, one in unlit mode, one with lighting. Fiddle around with those buttons, after youve rebuilt lighting, and you should get a result.
Or rebuild lighting and play the level. Rebuild all will do geometry and lighting in one go for you

Don't think i can help you. All i know is that if you click and drag in a viewport, your camera moves. Best i can give are two suggestions:
1: re-open the viewports. Go to view>viewports, somewhere up in the top menus, and fiddle around, to get the viewports re-opened.
2: reinstall UT. Annoying to do, i know

yeah its going good, dim in most places and a few cylinder light down the cavern pillars, even added a cool waterfall in it and the sounds r really realistic. Its coming along well :)
