I've used Kirby's and the host of other brands and this machine is the best by far. I'd trade in all my cleaners for this sure bet of a workhorse! I borrowed this model while my machine was in the shop and my floors looked like new with this upright model. the second best is the classic powerteam, which I own. It has worked like a champ for nearly 20 years of regular use.
I talked to a man at his vacuum store...and he said out of all the vacuums he sells....the Royal, by far is the best deep cleaning vacuum ever! He sells dysons, hoovers, royals, etc. I have an older version and Im trying to put the belt on....not sure if i am doing it right....thanks for the demo....purty color! Mine is old with a green bag...getting ready to ungrade the bag! Theses vacuums are expensive, but good!
@gemini784u I have a royal to..the best vacuum in the world in my opinion!I was talking to a guy who owns a vacuum store and he said dysons are shit and are nothing but hype and they DO have 3 filters!!!
Royal all metal vacuum cleaners were made in the Cleveland, Ohio area for a long time. I'm not sure if they are still made there with TTI taking over things. Sadly my bet is they are made in part or in whole over in China now. I sure hope not.
Royal has a belt installation tool that helps with putting them on. I just give a good grunt and do it with my fingers but if you're not used to doing it that way it can be painful for sure. These are real vacuum cleaners and sure not toys.
ROYAL vacuum cleaners were being made in Ohio near Cleveland. Now that TTI owns them, I fear they may be making them over in China. Belt changes are hard unless you have the belt installation tool (cheapo plastic) which really helps. You can get one at a ROYAL dealer or normally they are listed on eBay.
I don't think they were ever in "direct" competition with each other other than just being in competition against all the other vacuum cleaner companies.
I do animal rescue so I needed a good vacuum. Must have tried everything until I found a Royal Commercial vacuum similar to this one without the bells and whistles. Best darn vacuum I have found so far.
We pitted it against the yellow Dyson upright. One big scoop of beach sand on some plush carpeting. When the Dyson could pick up no more sand this Classic Royal honestly picked up about 5 good sized tablespoons worth of sand out of the test carpet. I no the second vac always picks up something left behind by the first vac but that much was very unusual and impressed me.

@gemini784u
Are you sure it is not turquoise, as on models 880/884/886/888?

The more you use this good ROYAL the more you'll want to get rid of all your other upright vacuum cleaners. This is one of their good ones.
