i find dis accidently while searching jonas brothers song love bug..but i started 2 like dis song..now i hav been listenin 2 it past 3 hours...such a feel good song
surprised this song didn't reach # 1 on the billboard charts ( I don't know, mid sixties?) sure is an upbeat song and of course sung so well and sixty-ish sounding
When i first saw this video five or more yrs ago, i assumed it was Kelso Herston playing that awesome 6 string Rickenbacker Guitar. I made a few inquiries and found out (thru Kelso himself) that it was not him, it was a guy named Jerry Starr. Also in the vid is Sonny Curtis on the steel, Ernie Reed on the fiddle, Paycheck (then Donny Young) on bass singing tenor, and Jerry. Don't know who the drummer is, sorry.
this is great!! Paycheck , Jones and a badass hillbilly guitar playing robot with glasses. So tight and on it.... This is what jammin' country music is.
i wrote a comment in praise of 'those old tele pickers' before i realized it was a rick. and you show really good taste when you noticed that killer tone. it is great stuff.
a teisco bass, a fender jazzmaster (?) a big rick, what more could you ask for in a rockin band?
Me i'm 14 and a big fan a George but i need to go to one of his concerts to bad i missed him back in 2005 he was in my town but i didnt even know who he was.
george is the best in my eyes and glade I got to see him live there is no one better to me and i wish music to day was as good. im 23 and nothing can compare to that good old classic sound
@cestesbrandese It is Paycheck. From 1962 to 1966, Johnny was the bass player, harmony singer and bandleader with George Jones. Paycheck had briefly worked for Porter Wagoner, Ray Price and Faron Young and was fired by all of them. But he found a kindred spirit in the Possum. Faron Young said of Paycheck, "I can't have anyone in my band who is crazier than I am".
Oh wow!! Where do you start?? This has to be some of the best vintage Possum footage out there. The tone that dude has dialed up on that guitar solo is incredible.
Nice plain Nudie suits, but it works. Nice early shot of the Jones' boys with Paycheck thumbing the bass guitar. What a talented bunch of musicians, backing two singing legends. Thanks for a great post.
I remember hearing this all the time on the radio when I was a kid...Now I feel old.

This is the best George Jones; with the kind of haircut you can set your watch to. On bass is the Real Mr. Heartache, Johnny Paycheck.

He deserves praise just for the fact that he played that so well on a Ric, not exactly a guitar that traditionally does leads great.
