  • Word!!

  • Thank you for sharing! Just took me back to fine memories. Makes me proud to be Samoan!

  • Ally must've meant the dances Tonga has borrowed, lol.

  • aussies have the matilda song, sth africa have the shoshaloza, england have swing low sweet chariot....this will better all those songs any day...mean song!

  • Simply fantastic!....What a superb masterpiece. Just thought I would play it again...smiles

  • I remember the memorial service in malaeola (auckland) on the death of the late Malietoa Tanumafili II. The service ended with this hymn and one of the rare times I have heard all the verses sung and the crowd rose to the occasion and sung it beautifully. There were many non-Samoan dignitaries there that night and one of them said to me that it was one of most beautiful hymns he has ever heard. This hymn is the definitive expression of Samoan nationalism

  • @petelosuaniu It sounds so good is because this is the true Samoan style of singing hymns. If Samoans stick to their true style, for sure it's gonna sound beautiful, and perhaps you're going to have a wonderful spiritual experience - you might see angels. lol! But seriously, if Samoans try to sing it opera or R&B style, it sucks. The same goes with our traditional dances; if we do it the true Samoan way, & get rid of the non-traditional moves, instruments & singing, they won't sound nasty.

  • When you mention the word Traditional. It's really hard to narrow it down to what. As to some of the traditional songs and dances are a mixture of different islands.(tonga and other nearby islands.) Dated back 100's or yrs ago. But as for the current songs and dances we do know at the present. You're right. One can tell the difference. As I watched a floor show at the old Sadie's.Not the one by the sea..

To me! Something seem to be missing and It didnt feel natural. If that's correct word.

  • @Allynalama And what exactly could point out as Tongan and elements of other nearby cultures that have been mixed into traditional dances and songs?

  • God Bless Samoa of old and new

  • Samoa Teachers Choir - Lota Nu'u Ua Ou Fanau Ai. In my opinion ranks high amongst the very best in the world!...Everything about this piece of music is pure solid gold. It is a genuinely beautiful masterpiece.

  • Aoina376 ...Thank's for email as I have been trying to find this fantastic beautiful music for some time. This is fantastic. It is more likely that people just are not aware that this beautiful music exists. I personally really appreciate it all right, I love every single beautiful note and beautiful word that this fantastic choir sings. It is so beautiful and heavenly. No sadly I am not Polynesian for this is such a beautiful heritage that any Polynesian can be more than proud of. Its fantastic

  • Brilliant....Why is it that the South Pacific Islands produce some of the most beautiful sounds. The is superb

  • can someone please explain the meaning of this hymn sorry i was brought up in aus

  • YEAH ! GO SAMOA !

  • @tamaolemaa

Yes I grew up in that era where teachers had to stay and live in which

ever village they were teaching. Each family in the village were taking turn feeding the teachers while they live there. One bus in the entire district. I have to live in Mulinu'u while attending Leififi and then to Samoa College in the early 60's and only go home to my village in Lefaga (family) once a month if I was lucky enough to have a six pence bus fare then. I remember those days like it were yesterday

  • my heart melts when hearing this song.

  • HAPPY WHITE SUNDAY

  • This hymn reminds me of my grandfather, a teacher from the 1940s to 1981 and fiercely proud of TTC. One of several teachers of that era that had to go out and stay in the villages they were teaching in because there were no roads back in those days to kua. Some villages he had to get in the paopao and paddle across the water to get to them. The hymn reminds me of those teachers, the early nation-builders that had the job of educating a generation in a country that was preparing for independence.

  • MALO LAVA!!!

    SAMOA MO SAMOA, ALA MAI!

  • OMG Its taken me forever to find this song on Youtube! I didnt know the title and only went by "Samoana" which kept bringing up Lole's version which is sad to say abit seu! But YAY i founding it! Thank you! Cheeee Hoooooo Samoa!

  • Truly Beautiful. Makes me miss home. Every morning in school before classes start in the school assembly singing this and having prayer.

  • I don't know how to speak Samoan, but when the family sang this at the reunion, it brought me to tears. I don't care what anyone says, nothing beats the villagers singing.

  • Walking pass the old market at Savalalo one evening and they were singing this song for their evening worship - it was hair raising. Samoans sing this song with such passion. Every time I hear it, it always takes me back to the wonderful childhood I had in Samoa. Thank you for sharing this wonderful song. As someone mentions, it is so beautiful hear it acapella style. Faafetai for posting this music and going back memory lane.

  • @MrFika03 yeah definitely CDs floating around, depending were you are. Auckland flea markets if in NZ. I got a collection of 5stars, TCC and other CDs from the flea market in Waikiki. There's one man that sells only Samoan gears, dvds, sounds and accessories.

  • 5. Ia fai oe ma nuu tumau,

    Olaola lau fanau,

    Ia viia e faavavau,

    Le ua pule aoao!

  • This is how this National Hymn is supposed to be sung. All the other versions are just not correct. It is like some hollywood celebrity butchering a national anthem. This hymn is like the second national anthem. God bless Samoa
