Wow fantastic memories, I haven't seen SCW since I was in high school and going to the matches in the old Joe & Harry Freeman coliseum and the Hemisphere Arena in San Antonio. Damn Joe you blew it SCW rocked!
now, the wwe puts a guy to wrestle and expect him to be a star, back in this time a wrestler had to work and study his craft. it took time for a guy to become a top or decent wrestler. to bad vince does not give no one that chance, thats one pf the reason's wwe sucks. the teritories were good for that. these guys developed themselves to be great.
when tully turned on gino and hit him with the belt , the circle piece fell off . if he hit him anymore with it, the middle part would have fallen off. terrible looking belt and cheap. you couldn't even beat someone with it.
I am from near Beaumont,Texas and they had so many matches in Beaumont, and Port Arthur...Those were the best days.I got to meet Tully, his wife and daughter whom invited me to her birthday party.I wish i could get more footage of Southwest Texas Championship Wrestling.Tully Blanchard,Gino Hernandez,Bob Sweetan,Scott Casey, the Sheep Herders,Bobby Jaggers,Mongolian Stomper, ohh wow so many more to list
A harbinger of what could have been... such a horsemen style promo, had Gino not died in '86, in 87 it would have been Flair, Hernandez, Anderson, and Blanchard basically ruling over the NWA.
@RevDarkehorse Southwest typically had bad looking belts. Guess Joe Blanchard was too cheap to put up the cash for some Reggie Park belts. Still, nothing could be as ugly as the Spinner Belt.

This was not from 1984. By that time Gino was in World Class, Tully was in the Mid Atlantic and SWCW was sinking fast. This is late '82.

gino was a crazy cokehead. he was doing $200 a day worth of coke. he wrestled to feed his coke habit.

the belts arent the best i guess the cowhide fur represents the southwestern cowboy idea.
but southwest championship was one of the best wrestling shows of all times.
some of the best wrestlers of the 80 worked there.
