I think the poor sound quality adds to the feel of this version. Just very raw, almost rushed. Like they just had to 'bleed it out' onto any recording material they had at the time. This version just sounds like raw pain...like those random tears you just cant choke back. Brilliant.

This version gives me goosebumps. I believe it's actually better then the "finished" product on the album, although the epic sequence in the end would just make this version so good!

@Donursus Really???? I think it's rather average in terms of the songwriting. It's just the same simple chords repeated over and over without any signs of a real chorus or bridge. Personally, I think this would have wound up as a very mediocre ballad (almost like album filler) without that bombastic coda attached. It's the melodic chorus and guitar riffs near the end that make the song memorable, imho. Axl must have felt the same. Otherwise he wouldn't have bothered adding anything

A friend of mine had this version on a pirate vinil record, back in the early 90's. I remember I was amazed at the beauty of this song. So when UYI 1 and 2 came out, I was finally able to listen to the studio version of this wonderful song. I always get the goose bumps when I listen to this fantastic tune.
