Fleetwood Mac's version is infinitely better. The vocals on Santana's version are pretty poor by any standards and his guitar playing, while good, isn't anywhere near as tight and emotional as Green's. B.B. King said of Peter Green, "He's the only white guitarist that gives me cold sweats". Listen to his guitar on 'The Supernatural", released way back in 1966 when he was guitarist for John Mayal's Bluesbreakers, and you would think it was a young Carlos Santana playing.
Disappointing - Carlos, when asked to talk about the song "Black Magic Woman" failed to mention that this was written and originally recorded by Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac in 1968. Green's arrangement, vocals and especially guitar work on this track are absolutely amazing. Carlos went on as if HE had written the damn thing! What a cop out. If you've never heard the original, you are in for a treat.
Why would he waste time mentioning that?...thats common knowledge (if you've heard it before) that he didn't write the song. Sure it wouldn't have hurt to bring his name up but you only get so much air time its only reasonable that he didn't.
Seriously, Carlos Santana did a much better job performing the song, which is why his version is more famous. Even if it's not a song that he wrote, 2Kold is write, it's pretty much common knowledge.
as happens very usually it's very difficult to be growing under the shadow of a big artist
