The song is in reference to Jesus and his sacrifice. He gave up his life and everything for us. He wants are love and all our hearts. When we all idols to dwell in our hearts, he does not have all of our hearts. It's like we are rejecting what he did on the cross for us. We all do it at some point. But He is worthy of all our heart not part. So we have to cry out for Him to cleanse our hearts of idols and guard it so we can be right with Him. I hope this helps.
