To interview the director Fernando Meirelles we've taken guests Rodrigo Salem, chief-editor of SET magazine, Luís Carlos Merten, critic of Cinema of journal "O Estado de São Paulo", Mona Dorf, presenter of program "Letras e Leituras" from Eldorado radio and Ideal channel from Abril and André Nigri, editor of Cinema from the Bravo magazine. A co-production of Brazil, Japan and Canada, the movie is an adaptation to Cinema of a Romance with the same name from lusitan writer José Saramago. The history about an epidemy of blindness that holds the population of an entire city, causing chaos and violence; only one woman still can see, character played by the american actress Julianne Moore.

The cast also presents Alice braga, a brazilian that suceeded her carrerr of actress in USA. "Blindness" has open the Cannes Festival, in 2008.

In Globo network, he has directed "Palace 2", presented in the Brava Gente series, "What do you want to be when you grow?", one of the stories of the "Private life comedies" series and 4 episodes of "City of Men", a remaining of the movie "City of God" shown as a serie by TV Globo between 2002 and 2005.

With one eye at television and another at international Cinema, Fernando Meirelles marks 2008 with another movie: Blindness.

in 2005 the director (Meirelles) made his first investiment in the International Cinema : The Constant Gardener, recorded in Africa, England, Germany and Canada, is a story of a man who researchs his wife's death and is faced against the Mafia created around the medicine's tests of Pharmaceutical industry.

In paralell to Cinema, Fernando Meirelles kept his partnerships with television.

City of God, a picture of the hard reality in one of the largest suburban poor communities of Rio de Janeiro, crowded the exhibition rooms breaking records of tickets for National Cinema that time. Also got international success having 4 indications for Oscar in 2004 in the categories of Direction, Photography, Story"board" and edition. Did not win but got 20 awards worldwide, giving international projection for Fernando Meirelles.

in 2002, Fernando Meirelles breaks the monotony of National Cinema with the movie that was going to be his first big sucess:

In 90's Meirelles started to make adversitings with the O2, which became the biggest producer of adversiting videos in the country. Having success in the adversiting, he ran to do what he liked at most: Cinema. His first movie came out in 98: O Menino Maluquinho 2, based on the adventures of the cartoon character created by Ziraldo.

In 2001, another movie, "As Domésticas": histories of life of 5 housemaids whose identities are unknown by their hirers in their houses, sometimes for years.

Born in São Paulo, graduated as architect by São Paulo's University, Meirelles joined his classmates of High Scholl to create the Electronic Sight, an independent producer that has marked the experimental video production in TV Gazeta, in São Paulo.

At the end of that decade, another marking experience in TV: Fernando Meirelles has directed the Ra-Tim-Bum, of TV Cultura, a serie that won 4 international prizes and changed the standard in programs for childhood in Brazilian's TV.

Even his last work for High School was made on video. Since then he has worked on TV, adversitings and after, for our lucky, chosen Cinema.

80's : in the Brazil of redemocratization, of magic cube, of Menudo and Prozac, also happened the most irreverent reporter of Brazilian's TV: Ernesto Varella, played by the actor Marcelo Tas was always with his camera-man, Valdecy, in fact: Fernando Meirelles.

Roda Viva interviews today Fernando Meirelles, who has released a new movie: "Ensaio sobre a cegueira" (Blindness), based on a romance with the same name from a literature Nobel prize winner, José Saramago.

Someday he got a camera from his father, which he used to make his first recordings, at age of 12. He is architect but his biography lefts no doubt: Fernando Meirelles never left the passion since teenages.
