Hmm. Looks cool. When is this going to be finished? I've never played the game because it's in japanese, but I hear allot about it. I'd like to play it but the japanese would throw me off.
Its sad, but I doubt this will ever come to fruition...It's been 5 years since the project started and there has been little to no new information since 2009. And to the above comment, I believe Moriya and Deuce are the same person as Deuce was spearheading the project with a few other members from the neo-geo.com boards.
@skexyz We are the same person, yes. And the project is a solo effort. It's been stagnant for a while, pretty much since I got married. I've been doing some professional translation work in the meantime, and general life getting in the way.
The real issue has been a general lack of inspiration to work on it. It's very close to finished, but any time I look at the files, I just feel blah. I need something to light a fire under my ass.

@blueyesalexya Cannot and will not. The tools were custom-made and coded by a third party who wished to remain anonymous. Not to mention, the actual process of figuring it out took ages. What documentation exists is basically my own shorthand, because I had to tinker around until I managed to make some sense of the game's coding. I'm not about to write an extensive manual on the process. That would be more exhaustive than actually working on the rest of the game.
@MoriyaMug Would some money going your way inspire you? :-) Now, I know some people would have moral issues with that, but I'm sure the interwebs would quickly jump on the opportunity to finally have this game in English, in whatever form it comes, and would be willing to pony up some money for that. Deuce is working for XSeed right now. They even bought his script for Ys - Oath in Felghana PSP. The time for Samurai Shodown RPG is almost nonexistent.
On the other hand, if you like YS and Legend of Heroes, you have to thank him. Oath in Felghana, Ys I & II Chronicles, Legend of Heroes - Trails in the Sky, they all have and will have Deuce's hand on them.
Man ... can't wait for March ... Sora no Kiseki ( Trails in the Sky ) is amazing.

I've always thought Samurai Shodown had some of the richest characters ever created. I'd beat the games sometimes simply to see them say a few phrases of dialogue relevant to their stories.
Needless to say, I'm utterly psyched right now finding out there's a translation for this game coming out.

Good game. Just one thing. Genjuro is not supposed to use a scabbard. The story says that he always carry his sword without it to be prepared to kill any one immediately.
As an aside, I've read that the original canon is that Nicotine had the two fight for a magical scroll that would grant the winner more power. Genjuro wins the duel against Haohmaru and goes to finish him. Nicotine had made the scroll up to test them and seeing Genjuro try to kill his opponent made Nicotine banish him. Thus the grudge began.
This obviously conflicts with the story presented here, and not knowing when this was released compared to the fighting games confuses me further,insight?

I'm not sure about any magical scroll; I've never heard that story. I can't attest to SSRPG's version being canon, as I don't know. However, I do know that the the drama CDs and Dengeki CD Bunko stuff are not canon at all.
SSRPG covers the storyline of both SS1 and SS2, however, with a hint of influence from SS3 scattered around (primarily in that you can encounter Basara, and you will run into Gaira in the second chapter).
the rpg is the definitive story. I cant believe peopel listen to stories in fighting games. There broken and contridict themselves all the time. Leave the story for the rpg.
