It's reassuring to read these comments, because watching the movie today again after quite an interval, it seemed (almost impossibly) that this dance sequence was one of their more complicated. And there are so many among all their movies! I think my initial reaction was accurate. "The Piccolino" is intricate and so is "They All Laughed" and a few others, but this one seems to have a greater number of small steps and a greater variety, as well.
***A remarquer une chose assez drole... En dansant, Ginger regarde très souvent ses pieds (dans quel but?) alors que Fred (the perfect man ;)) ne les regarde pratiquement jamais....
The Astaire/Rogers playful duets like this one, plus the romantic duets, were the driving reason why the partnership were so very popular in the 1930s. The electricity, and fun, and joy, between them, makes these dances much more than: 1+1=2......They are more like: 1+1=2,002!
It's lovely isn't it? And unique amongst Fred and Ginger clips because it was shot in one take and never dubbed over with taps. The director loved it's spontinaity, this is why you can see their obvious joy in what they are doing and hear Ginger's laughter as clear as a bell!

Oh the sheer joy in this dance.Listen to the exclamations of joy from both Fred and Ginger. The acting doesn't stop when they begin to dance.
