Books are huge and tend to wobble as they stack up, under huge moment (it's hard to stack the books exactly straight up) and eventually will ruin the experiment, some more centralized weight distribution is a better alternative, you can hang a bucket and load scales and bricks into it, which could be a perfect "textbook example".
