  • do you know how to remove the region lock on ps2 games? there are some european games i want to play on my north american ps2. but i heard that u need to remove the region lock. how do you do it.

  • are you familiar with downloading PAL games onto the HDD? I want to get siren 2 (never released in ntsc) and put it on my HDD. i know the method using a third party thing, but will it be region locked?

  • The X-Box comes with a HD so you save money.

  • @XMasterDragon Installing linux is much easier because of that as well. The xbox already has all the hardware, you just need a softmod and you can boot linux :D.

  • wow. if only if the HDD was a giant memory card.

  • When I opened the expansion bay there was a huge spider web in it.

  • could you use a ps3 hard drive? 40gb

    xD

  • So i need a modchip?

  • @drpapi444 No, the harddrive is an official SONY supported device, no modchip required.

  • how do you save ps1 and ps2 games on a ps2 hard drive?

  • @cyclonboys64 From what I know you can't save PS1 games on a hard drive, if you'd like to install PS2 games on a hard drive, you'll have to buy some 3rd party software which allows you to do this, it is something that was never supported by SONY, and they even outlawed at one point.

  • @Indead wait so the network adpator is the hardrive.. and i want to play online ..i have the fat ps2 so all i have to do is get the network adpator and then install disc etc.. and i can play online ps2 games

  • @cloudforgiven The network adapter is not the hard drive, the network adapter is used to transfer data between the hard drive and the PS2 itself. If all you're wanting to do is play online, all you need is a network adapter, you won't need an install disc, that is only for formatting a harddrive to be compatible with a PS2.

If you just want to play games online, and have a fat model PS2, just buy a network adapter, that is all you'll need.

  • @Indead ok i have the fast ps2 right ... so when i open it for the back where the hardrive is suppose to be its not there..(first time i opened it) so if i want to get a network adaptor for online play how will i connect it to the ps2 when i have no hardrive at the back because it seems to me i need that hardrive to connect the network adaptor..

  • @cloudforgiven The hard drive wasn't included. And you need the network adapter to install a hard drive, not the other way around.

  • thanks man you just helped me out big time what does hd loader do though

  • @dillbill94 It is a piece of software that allows you to copy entire Playstation 2 games and store them on the hard drive, which allows them to be played from the hard drive without the disc. I've looked into a little bit, but I've never actually bought it, I think that the original HD Loader was outlawed, and it has since been revised at "HD Advance" several years ago.

  • how do i load games off my ps2 hard drive i copied the data to it but and took the memory card out but it doesnt load the game off the hard drive

  • @dillbill94 Unfortunately, the hard drive can only be recognized by a handful of games, which means you'll still have to use your memory card to actually play games, what the hard drive does all you to do, is have a really large, and really affordable, "backup memory card"

So to rephrase, you can't actually save or load data to the hard drive during games, you can only use it to store game save files to make additional space on your memory card.

  • @dillbill94 This helped me out big time because I bought the hard drive for 40 bucks, and back in 2005, and even now, new PS2 memory cards were 20 dollars a pop. So... 8MB vs. 40000mb, I think I'll spend the 40 bucks to get a hard drive, instead of 40 bucks to get 16MB...

  • You need The following:

    1 Transparent case.

    2 Afterglow duel-shock controller.

    3 Flash LEDS.

    4 A welding kit.

    5 40+ GB hard-drive and Adapter.

6 Network and Hard-Drive installation disk.

    7 20 8* games to backup.

  • @XMasterDragon A transparent case...might be cool, not really for me, I personally haven't found the appeal of the Afterglow controllers, LEDs....maybe, a welding kit would be nice, got my Hard Drive, and could use a nice backup software tool, maybe someday, I need to get a working PS2 again first @,@

  • so will i be able to copy the games from my memory card to the hard drive when it is installed?

  • Comment removed

  • i got a ps2 50001 will a Western Digtal 250gb HDD work on this

  • do you need the internet? i dont know because im 10

  • @knucklestheawesome No, you don't need the internet to use a hard drive. Only if you want to play games online.

  • @Indead I just dug out my PS2 and Xbox from the garage today, I don't have a scart connector on my screen unfortunately, so I'm going to have to get one tomorrow, if I can't get one in town I might have to get one on-line.

  • i got 50004 xP

  • @pombenenge Nice, lol, the last digit actually indicates what region the unit is for, so ending in 0 is japan, 1 is North america, and so on. I still want my good ol' 30001 back.

  • @Indead well I guess mine is from germany, since i live there xP

  • just pisses me off when i see people not using a anti satic wrist strap

  • @theshadowstriker100 thanks for the tip, ill seek out one of those touse before I do something like this again

  • @Indead no prob does this work good i have a xbox 1 with a j tag but the games for xbox1 are shit how mutch is the ethernet adapter>?

  • @theshadowstriker100 Well, I haven't modded my PS2 in any way, and I have never used my Hard Drive for storing games on it, the ethernet adapter shouldn't cost too much as long as you can find one. I would check your local used game store to see if they have any in the PS2 accessory section, they honestly shouldn't run more than $10-15, if that's unsuccessful, you could easily buy one online, you'd just then need to get a hard drive, formatted properly for the PS2 to read.

  • @Indead ok thanks

  • hey man, I have both modded and unmodded ps2's

If I bough one of those, connected my maxtor 20gb to the unmodded ps2, would it still run dem iso's ? or w/e this thing supports

  • RATCHET & CLANK! 3 :D

  • @LOMBAX0RATCHET I played just a little of that online back a few years ago, it's definitely competent, and certainly one of the more worthwhile PS2 games online lol, seeing as their weren't and even now aren't many.

I just always got my ass handed to me constantly, oh well.

  • @Indead hahahahhahhaha :P i never got to play it online and they have shut the server for it down now :( but the new one coming out VERY soon has online :D

  • p.s. mine didn't have that piece missing like your's does it's all there

  • I bought one of these with the box utility disk and intructions on ebay for $11.50 is that a good deal? please anser

  • @roosteemon Sounds like an absolute steal to me, get that thing installed properly as soon as possible. Let me know how it all went.

  • @Indead I got it installed and it works perfectly the best part is now I never need another memory card and I can install games like street fight alpha and download socom maps!

  • can u paly wirelesss online and ps3 games?

  • @ELKRIPPLEED2000 You can not play wirelessly on a Playstation 2, nor can the Playstation 2 play PS3 games.

  • does the end of the phone cable HAS to be plugged in the wall? PLEASE ANSWER.

  • @kev1mick Unless you're going to be playing games online, you will not need to connect a phone cable, or a ethernet cable to your PS2 just to use the hard drive.

Just as a side note, I don't think there are any games on the PS2 still online today that use dial-up, I think their servers have all been shut down, there weren't many of them anyway.

  • Do you need hdd if u have a hd tv

  • @phillipflip9 You do not need to have a HDD to use a PS2 on an HDTV.

  • Do you need hdd?

  • @phillipflip9 A HDD is not necessary at all, and in fact there are only about 10 games in America that even support it. I use mine primarily as a very large memory card to back all my data up to when it's not in use.

  • @Indead after you install the hard drive on the ps2 how can you install the games

  • @uagniza People use a special piece of unlicensed 3rd party software, the first issue was HDLoader, which was actually subjected to a lawsuit by SONY and was shut down, however it's successor HDAdvance lives on till this day. I haven't looked anything up about either of these pieces of software in many years, and I don't really have any intentions of buying them due to my pretty small hard drive size, the standard 40gig.

I'll let you do all your research yourself on that topic.

  • my ps2 came with an expansion bay, but i dont have those options to go into the expansion bay. in the memory card screen

  • @ElementSk8trKing The expansion bay is just an area to input a hard drive, the reason why you see the Hard Drive on my Playstation 2's browser page is because I have properly connected a Playstation 2 hard drive to the PS2, the expansion bay is just an area where you put a hard drive it, it does not do anything but house the hard drive. It is just an open metal space with nothing in it.

  • Sly cooper!!!!!!!ftw

  • where can you buy compatible hard drive for ps2 can u use a ps3's one?

  • @phillipflip9 no you cannot use the same one from a ps3 as those are the size of the standard laptop hard drive, these are the larger size hard drives, those smaller ones won't even be able to connect properly

  • how do you connect that type of ps2 to the internet/

    ???? PLEASE ANSWER

  • @swprotecter84 I may show you in a later video using a game that's still up and running, this late in the PS2's lifecycle, which they're are a good amount of them, it's just there aren't many people who play unless it's Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, or the 4 Socom games.

If you're wondering if you can use a Web browser, there isn't one for the PS2, although, one may be have been released in japan.

  • can we get ylode becuse of changing the HDD?

  • @sharoz95 The "yellow ligh tof death" I believe you're referring to is a case with the Playstation 3, this is the PS2. Even on a PS3, no, you won't get a yellow error light just for changing the HDD.

  • 1:23 Hello xD

  • @benzin213 Heh... heh heh... makes me chuckle...

  • Hey I have a question, if the HD get in contact with the metal part in the ps2 expansion bay could it cause some malfunction to the ps2?

  • @raziuldu I'm not entirely sure what you mean, I wouldn't say you have anything to worry about really, but again, I'm not positive waht you're really trying to ask me. I have never had any sort of contact issues with the official brand hard drive, and I'm not sure why another other one would have any issues either.

  • kso i have another question, will the hard drive be compatible with ALL ps2 games to save on?

  • @simplyxwilliam I have not had an issue saving games any PS or PS2 games to the hard drive yet, with the exception of a few PS2 games that prohibit the transferring of the game data, such as Timesplitters 2.

  • will a fat ps2 3900 seriers work oh ya i segate hewlet packard

  • so can you save ps1 games onto the hard drive? and can most ps2 games be saved onto the 40GB?

  • @simplyxwilliam I'm not sure if you mean saved game files, or actually copying games to the hard drive to play them from it without the disc. To answer the first question, yes, you can save both Playstation and PS2 game saves to the hard drive, however, only a handful PS2 of games actually save directly to, or load from the hard drive, PS1 is not supported in anyway in that respect.

Basically, this means in order to play a save game for PS1, or PS2, you'll have to save to a memory card first.

  • @Indead ok thanks for answering my question

  • @simplyxwilliam You're welcome, let me know if you have another one.

  • speaking about the PS2 there is the Super NES next to the PS2 and the Super NES is like thinking: "WTF he is talking about Sony and not Nintendo, ass, I better get out fo here"

  • Great video lots of help.........i now know how to install my hard drive only problem is I got the wrong one........ What type of hard drive do i need and where can i get it?

  • quick question, if it takes longer to load whats the benefit not needing a memory card?

  • @Rangerxlt21 Here's the problem, the hard drive actually HAD large potential, but due to both poor sales numbers, and poor support by a large majority of developers, with the only exception being Capcom, EA, and primarily Zipper Interactive roughly 10 games released in the US even recognize the thing, and even have some sort of functionality with it.

Most of the games that do use it, install a portion of the game data on the hard drive to reduce loadtimes in game. cont.

  • @Rangerxlt21 but again the problem was, no one really took advantage of such a feature, plus the hard drive could only be purchased for 100 dollars, which came bundled with Final Fantasy XI, there was no other cheaper alternative. So, back to what you're asking, what's the point of having it if all it does it take forever to boot up? Well if you happen to have a game that takes advantages of it, that will shave off seconds off your load times, and also, with memory cards being sold for $20

  • @Indead a hard drive is a very cheap alternative if you're someone who has lots of saved games, or especially large save files, for example Socom 2 and 3's online patches requiring 3MBs a piece, which is nearly half of a PS2 memory card.

So for 40 dollars I got about 38000MBs, versus 40 dollars for 16MBs of memory cards.

Also you must note, the Ps2, with the exception of a few games that utilize it, will NOT be able to save/load any data directly to the drive, it must all be backed up from cards

  • Hey I got a question for you. I just purchase the FFXI 40GB for the PS2. However my browser does not show Mouse/Keyboard options on the menu. My PS2 Model Is SCPH-50001/N. However I did reformat the HDD with the HDD software disc which it came it. So is there something I need to do with software disc??

  • @0UTPHASE Unfortunately, I don't know why those options aren't showing up in your System Configuration menu, again, my Hard drive never came with the formatting disc, or any other software, so what I know is based purely of what I have.

I wish I could help more.

  • "These beautiful, beautiful component cables...... Oh my." Lol.

  • @KKKSuperFan Most of the unofficial software that allows you to back up games onto a PS2 hard drive, I believe require you to insert the software so that you can boot those games, however it's likely I'm wrong. I would look up HDLoader or HDAdvance and see how it is that those operate in that respect.

  • nice t.v,, and consoles collection

  • @snafgan Thank you for that, however, I honestly don't remember why my consoles were all over the floor, but I am very proud of my TV however lol, frickin' ways 100lbs, 32 inch SDTV. Just glorious.

  • @Indead me i have a Sony trintron 29'' inch since 2000,,,, and my fat ps2 too,,, all is great'''

  • @snafgan My mom and dad got this 32" Sony Trinitron from 1994, it weighs roughly 150lbs but it is a monster for playing older games, and I swear it has a subwoofer in it.

  • @Indead yeahhh,,, it's very heavy,, hi hi

  • appears in my insert disc format for ps or ps2

    says if you know

  • so we watch this video, mainley because you wanted us to see your small collection of old consoles?

  • @kyle247i You as funny as that is, I actually do not remember why they were out all over the floor. But until I do, go ahead and call me an asshole for that lol.

  • how do u know if the adapters bad because mine wont use my internet or any of the 3 hard drives i have tryed idk wat to do plzz help. im thinking of getting a nother

  • @shadowtuy I know that your hard drive needs to be formatted properly before your PS2 can recognize it, from what I know, you're going to need an actual PS2 HDD disc, that can properly format the hard drive to work with a Playstation 2.

However, my hardrive was purchased used AFTER someone else had already formatted it to be compatible.

Additionally, it is likely that the games you are trying to play are no longer supported online. Check a website called Online Consoles, for a list of them.

  • That's really cool, i just gained a tremendous amount of respect for the PS2. ofc i always thought the old school ps2 was a lot more awesome than the redesign...

  • @PietroDimeglio The official Playstation 2 Hard Drives came with 40Gig models.

  • Anybody know how to Install HDD into PS2 w/o Optic? My optic head was broken! Need tutorial Vids please! Or give me link if available! Thanks...

  • great vid but why do you have two super nintendos

  • @Gamerholic100

Well one, you can never have too many Super Nintendos, if they're cheap enough, also, the reason why I have a second one is because I got a working SNES, controllers hook ups, an Atari 2600 and about 20 2600 games for 10 dollars.

An absolute steal if you ask me, I've got a video about it if you're curious to know more.

  • Whats your Sony hard drive called? Very helpful tutorial, might give this a go :)

  • Oh, and I use component cables for my ps2 as well. I use them on my standard definition tv and it makes ps2 games look amazing.

  • I had my fat ps2 since 2001 and it finally started dying on me last summer. It would no longer read blue discs and I tried just about every online tutorial to try fixing it. I ended up buying a slim ps2. But some ps2 games have compatibility functions with slims so it annoys me. I one day plan to get a hard drive for my fat ps2, so that I can back up all my games and play them off of the hard drive on the ps2.

  • I plan to do this because that way my ps2 wont have its disc drive getting further worn when I play games, and the console would last a very long time. I do not intend to pirate games. I just have so many ps2 games that I know eventually the disc drives in all the ps2s will fail.

  • can you play PSone games with component cable?

  • Here is what I'll tell you.

Yes, on my SDTV, the one I use here, I can, although on my dad's HDTV, for some reason, the picture doesn't work. I believe on my mom's HDTV, it did in fact work.

So, I'm not really sure, I really like playin' PSOne games with Component though, they're quite beautiful. I highly recommend it. =)

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Im using Component but non of my PSone games work with it so ever time i want to play PSone game i have to switch betwen Component and AV cables. Shame cause i bet PSone games would look great. Thanx for you'r response.

  • can you install an xbox hardrive into your ps2 also or is it only possible to use the actual ps2 hardrive

  • Actually I'm not sure, from what I've read over the years, the PS2 is only compatible with certain types of hard drives, but I'm sure the drives it is compatible with are dirt cheap now due to file size, so it shouldn't be hard getting a hold of one. You'll just need the formatting software that originally came with the hard drive. As far as the Xbox drives go, I really wouldn't think that they're compatible. Try doin' some research on ones that are though. =)

  • honestly, i don't see the point of a hard drive in a ps2

    please enlighten me

  • very helpful vid. im actually about to purchase an actual sony ps2 hdd. but what i want to know is, since it's a 'full blown hdd', if you will, can you store other items on it such as being able to rip cds and the like to it; or is it stricly 40 gigs of space for game data only? because thats all that i noticed that you had on yours.

  • There is no official way to rip any sort of disc to the console. There are 3rd party softwares out there, that will actually allow you to rip PS2 games to the hard drive, HD Loader/HD Advance for example. But I've never used one of these.

Other than that, the PS2 hard drive is just a big fancy Memory card, that a very small number of games can take advantage of otherwise, and unfortunately, games cannot be saved to the drive, only backed up, unless a specific title allows it.

    Any other ?, ask.

  • Wait, sony allows you to do this? Do you need to modify your console to run the games from it?

  • I think you might be a little mixed up on this. Let me straighten things out as best I can.

Sony allowed this to happen, this is an expansion that Sony considered for the PS2, and when they saw the success the Xbox had using a hard drive, it was time to unleash it to the masses.

Next part, your console does not need to be modified to be able to do this, BUT the Hard drive is not designed to run games from it. When I meant I had data stored on it for those Socom games(continued next comment)

  • are simply downloaded content, OR the main thing the hard drive ended up being use for was storing portions of data from the game disc to the Hard drive, to improve load times, which PS2 is notorious for.

Now I will tell you this, there are 3rd party softwares out there, which will allow you actually "rip" games to the hard drive and boot off of them. HD Advance/HD Loader are the most popular, but they are also rather risky, and I believe one of them was even lawed out(not sure which one.)

  • Hopefully this explains things better for you, if not please ask me again what you're missing. If I answered properly, please ask anymore questions if you have them.
