wow I've been looking for an awesome bass cover of this song and I've found it!!! My favorite part of the bass kicks in at 6:10 and you nail it perfectly! Can't get enough of this song. Thank you!
You have really done a great job here. I see "attempts" at Chris Squire all the time here on YouTube, and, for the most part, they are very poor. This was a true joy to watch and hear. Thank you!
@warmaster2006 too right mate. you know, the guitarist I played with some years ago hated it when I insisted on using my 4001. I think it intimidated his stratocaster. The rick just looks so cool and the sound of it just blew the guitar away. here's to the 4001, king of bass guitars! and bollocks to anyone who doesn't agree.
@motorpsych0 This is the best Yours Is No Disgrace bass cover I have heard in youtube as of date. Good job man! You pay a lot of attention to detail.. Most people just flatten out parts like 1:10 to 1:15.
I freakin' love Rickenbacker! The first time I heard Geddy's tone while listening to Hemispheres for the first time, or Squire's tone on Roundabout for the very first time, I honestly thought my head was going to explode!
Hi Dude! I saw that your amp is one GK combo and it sounds closely to yes.. what effects do you additionally use in this movie? do you know what are the Yes bassist setup? I'm crazy on it!
You did a pretty good job recreating Chris Squire's tone, sounds just like him. Although I thought Squire used a cheapo model Rick that wasn't stereo...wiki says it's a model RM1999 that he rewired into stereo, and he still uses it today. I saw Yes in 1987, always loved to hear Squire play!
The bass must be worth alot of money. What a beauty I had a Red one similar .and sold it .I'am kickin myself in the ass now.I always loved Squire ,never got to see Yes live
Very nicely played. But isn't that a 4003 you're playing? I have a similar model to Chris Squire: Rickenbacker 4001 (V63) and you can't remove the horseshoe pick-up cover as it's one unit - I wish you could - LOL! Also, you've absolutely nailed the Yes sound ... can you share your set-up secrets please? Many, many thanks.
@ProsperosCloset : It is indeed a 4001-S (1973). It is a late year model, when Ric changed to the HI-Gain pickups. Yeah, the cover was pretty much in the way, so I took it off.
The tone comes from a little GK Backline115 combo. The "contour" knob is the magic pill that gets the tone ringing!
@motorpsych0 This bass is veryy similar to Geddy Lee's bass in the early Rush day's.Grover Tuners ,big triangular block inlays.. great job .This was a great time in music when there was talent .Awesome
@RIFFRAFFB : Yeah, part of the reason why I wanted this RIC is due to Geddy Lee! I saw RUSH the first time in ~1973, and he played this style 4001 at the show.
my bassist has got a beautiful ric with the old horseshoe pickups, it sounds fantastic with some good rockin tunes, you should check it out, just put this 3jmQ9gHZ8aE after the v= in the url.
I see you removed the astray thing over the strings near a pickup did you do that or did you get a repair man to do that because I was always curious how it got removed like with Paul McCartney he removed it and Geddy Lee removed with some songs
Well done, I really enjoyed that. Love that bass, wished I had it! When I listen to Yes, it's the bass which gets my attention more that anything else. Even a Ricky copy costs quite a few hundred now days. Well sought after on ebay, people always bid highly for them.
Hi Motorpsycho. Awesome playing. Nothing quite sounds like it. To add to your list of Rickenbacker bass pantheon, I would add Mike Rutherford during his early Genesis days. A double-neck as I recall. I listen to their tribute band, "The Musical Box" and their bassist likewise uses a period-correct custom double neck with the same deep treble twang. Wonderful!
@bewareofzealots : Heck yeah, I'm all over the early Genesis too! My first album was "Foxtrot", but I later back-filled my collection. I'm thinking about covering the obvious "Watcher of the Skies". Thanks for the comment(s)! =)
@ramisun2010 :First, get a RIC with the hi-gain pickups. Next, I used a small GK Backline 115 amp, and turned the "contour" knob to the 3 oclock position. That's where the tone got good, and sounded like CS! =)
I watched this so many times I thought t was about time I said something. Thanks. I saw Yes play this once at Reading Rock Festival at midnight in the pouring rain.
Do us another video, same song, same guitar, but better camera. Well done mate!
Thanks for the rock history demo! it is interesting to hear that bass. I believe I read Chris squire stating he worked at a music store and bought the first Ric imported to the Island. The GHS round wounds sound great. History making bass and song.
@leftoveragain : That's my deal...getting the phrasing as close as possible to the original. It's like a math puzzle to me! Thanks for the comment. And, go out and get another RIC!

By the way check out MotorpsychO' version of "Heart of the sunrise" He plays it note for note.
@tboi3000 Yea i was sad to see him go, dream theater wont ever be the same without him but their still a great band. I just cant stand the fact that after everything he did for that band they wouldn't let him take a break without having to leave completely. Every now and then I come to see this video and I'm not even listening to Yes (yet).
Now, it's either that Ric bass or awesomness of video...
