Matt most likely came up with that idea him self. What, you actually think that people in Japan traditionally go sit infront of a fridge during summer? And if it's a family, that they would take turns? xD
I liked the winter one more, it was like a life action kinda anime thingy thing xD
u shud do more stuff like that, just talk into the camera make it fun, make it like a adventure, the winter was rlly fun to watch, this one was ok too though.
When I used to live in Japan my mother had cases of deodorant shipped over every 4 months XD

Absolutely awesome videos! I hate travel, but the one place in the world I want to visit is Japan. For the mean time thanks for bringing some of it to youtube ha!
yea, nice vid (and the winter one too), i know film students who will never have a hope of making something so informative and entertaining (engaging).
not only did i learn about japan.., but my wife too (shes Japanese) and ive been married 8 years, she loves nato.., its totally horrible.., the vegemite of japan i think.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
There should be a disclaimer on his movies b/c most people don't live in the crappy conditions this guy lives in. If I saw this video before I came to Japan, I never would have come. This is countryside living (pretty boring after the novelty wears off, unless you like the countryside lifestyle), and his apt is pretty much a dump. No air conditioning and no running water???!!! Make sure you know what you're getting yourself into beforehand with your company.
dude shut up fuck up he got to japan with nothing ... and also he explains what u just said ... think before posting .. plus this was 2003 or 4 faggot ....
i meant to say "no running HOT water". oooh, i should shut up? ahh, can't your "boy" take any criticism? did it hurt your itty bitty feelings? I came to Japan "with nothing" as well, but didn't have to live like a bum when I got here like he did. The "year" doesn't matter. He came and lived in those conditions, period. And my point is, most don't and don't have to, it doesn't have to be that difficult.
well if ya knew anything prices have been going up so It probably costs him more huh? Personally I dont see anything wrong with his lifestyle, rich-ass people like you that look down on us need one helluva reality check.
Living in Central Tokyo is actually just as bad. Apartments are pretty small and believe me, the air conditioning in Japan isn't nearly as efficient as it should be. Augh...
Well, a lot of places in Japan are good when comparing them to central tokyo. But NO air con OR running hot water? That's like living in poverty, and really unnecessary. All of the apts in my company have that, it's a requirement, it's the most basic of utilities to have.
Since when did air conditioning become a "basic" utility? I think it's fine how he lives. Water. Check. Electricity. Check. Food. Check. Sounds good to me.
if you can sleep in 35 degree summers (plus a lot of humidity, you saw him getting up in the middle of the night with his back soaked in sweat) then hey, that's cool. Most foreigners can't stand it though. No running hot water? hey, again, if you want to live like that then i don't have anything against you, it's your perogative. Most people in Japan have air-cons though and running hot water. It makes life a lot easier and more comfortable.
I agree with you duke. This guy could have better accommodations if he wanted to. I worked in Usuki, which isnt far from Oita. And I had a real bed, running hot water, and central AC/Heat. And I wasnt paying that much. I guess this guy is being cheap. Though if one wants to live like animal thats their thing.
I don't really like natto either. Eh... Everytime I see it in Mitsuwa (American-Jpn super market) or on a Japanese restaurant menu, I try to avoid it like the plague. ^_^ Haha.. Most of the older people in my family love it though.
Well done. I leave to teach in Japan in one month...but I'm told I have to wear a suit and tie everyday (university job). I taught for one year in Korea and was allowed to dress like you did in class. Fortunately, I'll only be there in the Fall/Winter, so the sweat factor is negated.
Posatrocible: I don't know yet. Westgate Corporation places teachers in colleges on an as needed basis and all I know is I'll be in the Kanto region somewhere for one semester and then I hope to network into a longer term contract. Otherwise, Westgate will bring me back in the Spring for another 3-4 month gig. Kinda different, but I like the freedom. My job in Korea looks just like yours in the video. Ever heard of Westgate and are you still in Japan?...Thanks for replying and again, nice job!
Your videos are very informative. I can't help but watch all of them even though it's really early in the morning and I should be getting some sleep >_>. By the way, you are great with children.
and yes its very hot and muggy. i rode a bike to school every morning there as well. and i remember the typhoon as well. (i think school was canceled for one day)
whattttttttttt they have no air conditioner ther either lol do you miss your home country ? Are you ever gonna go back home or you plan on stayin gthere forever?

Hmm, al;so did any japanese folk look at you fascinated in any way, I mean Brown hair and blue eyes, (i think lol)Most japanese folk hav black hair(dark dark brown I know..lol) and relly dark eyes. Im just curious, and if not did you see any japanese with unique characteristics??
NUN3Gamer: What do I think about America? I have met lots of Americans and have several really good friends from all over the States. I have never lived in the USA, so I can't comment on how I would like it.
Some children and old people here will sometimes stare... but in bigger cities, foreigners are common so you don't get the attention nearly as much.
DazzyBoy12: Heya, thanks for the comment! Adapting to living here was pretty easy for me since I was interested in Japan quite deeply before arriving. Learning Japanese was another story... I still have lots to learn. But after being able to communicate fairly well, things really smoothed out.
Definitely buy a bicycle when you get here... great for shopping and getting to the nearest train station.
hey, is it the same as when England gets hella humid sometimes? cuz i had to go there for a wedding in june and it was so unbelievable humid that as soon as i got out the shower and dried myself off, i started to sweat. is it like that?
Well this is the second production of your that I've watched. So far so good. I see you are a man of infinite patience answering all those questions: Do they have stop signs?, Do they have electrical outlets?, etc. My God, if these interrogators are adults it is cause for pause......anyway looking forward to your next production on Life in Japan.
jimmyjames602: Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I get questions all over the board... lol. But definitely the most common is, "How do I become an English teacher in Japan?"
I should likely devote a video to that answer alone. But, there are infinite answers, so it might be kinda long! =)
Awesome video man, I recently just started learning Japanese using the rosetta program. I'm also working on my bachelors degree for college, I hope to be able to go over there in 3-4 years.
I'm rather debating between being an english teacher or possibly being a computer programmer. Not sure which would be better for living over in Japan.
Wow this is amazing ! I really love how you get to see what it's like.
I'm only 17 now and I really want to teach English in Japan - any beginning tips? I've got some Japanese learning books already and have memorized Hiragana and Katakana - is it really hard to learn Kanji?
Hi great video man, right now im studying japanese with that rosetta stone program so i wont be so lost in japan, i saw you said learning japanese would be immensly usefull, but i wanted to know how much would rent be on an apartment like yours?
With respect to Saitama Prefecture, how much you pay is based on the Tokyo factor, the closer you are to Tokyo the more you will pay. A four room apartment close to Tokyo can maybe cost you in upwards of 68000 yen a month, while the same size apartment in HigashiGyoda might cost you only 48000 yen a month.
i live in england, its cold , wet and windy and in the summer its just wet and damp and occationally hot. i dont what part of england you live in - the edan project?
:D Hello~ I've seen your vid the first time and its amazing! Thank you so much for posting it! I want to try to get a stipend for an exchange year in Japan ~ and if you don'T mind I'd like to ask you some questions~
:) Here's the first (YES there are coming lots more soon xD)
How much paper work did you have to go through for livin g and working in Japan?
And this might be a bis personal but~ How much do you get paid as an English-Teacher?
I lived in DEEP south Mississippi and WOW - yeah, wow - HUMID HOT...horrible. Arizona was just as HOT but DRY - which is much better actually than HOT/HUMID.
I hope you realized that your camera has a blind streak in the middle ... (right 4/5th and up 2/3) ... either it is dirty or your lense got beat up somewhere... :(
I just stumbled across your videos & thought they were very helpful & informative. I just applied for the 2008 JET program & was wondering if you might have any tips about the interviews or anything else?
imastrgazer: Thanks for the comment! As for the JET interview, I really recommend emphasizing your desire to learn about Japanese culture and that you want to share YOUR culture with your students. The JET programme seems to be more about cultural exchange than actual language teaching these days. All the best and good luck! =)
hey Posatrocible. just how can someone use to get into JET. you know the website. i never used it before. i was told by others to watch myself. well you know on games you can get scammed. that's what other people told me to do just to make sure i don't get scammed.
thanks for the advice. i ended up not getting a JET placement, but I was offered a job as an ESL teacher in Japan through another company. Your "day in the life" videos actually helped me prepare for the move. thanks again.
1. I came alone, but it was easy to make friends quickly among the ex-pat community as well as neighbours, etc.
2. I think traveling is fun, of course, but anyone who really wants to experience Japanese culture needs to settle down and live in a place for a while.
appleslime: Great questions! Traveling is more expensive in Japan forsure. Food and clothes aren't that bad at all. I have never seen a pokemon parade (darn it!). Craziest thing I've seen: I left my bike unlocked infront of a convenience store overnight with my work bag in the basket and $300 in it... and it was untouched.
What is the name of the character on the glass at 1:23? i was just wondering because he was on a Japanese pack of gum that I bought, and i was just wondering if he was popular in Japan.
Hi,Thank you for your radio, There are Japanese in my college, my friend paied for them to learn Japanese, but when they are together, most times are those Japanese learning english from my friend!! it's a good deal, isn't it?haha
I'd love to visit since i love Japanese culture but there is no way in hell i can live there!

Well this is the second production of your that I've watched. So far so good. I see you are a man of infinite patience answering all those questions: Do they have stop signs?, Do they have electrical outlets?, etc. My God, if these interrogators are adults it is cause for pause......anyway looking forward to your next production on Life in Japan.
jimmyjames602 3 years ago
jimmyjames602: Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I get questions all over the board... lol. But definitely the most common is, "How do I become an English teacher in Japan?"
I should likely devote a video to that answer alone. But, there are infinite answers, so it might be kinda long! =)
Posatrocible 3 years ago
Long or not i would watch it! But would probably take too much of ur time :P

Anyways you have great vids man.
revengeismyfury 3 years ago
Wow this is amazing ! I really love how you get to see what it's like.
I'm only 17 now and I really want to teach English in Japan - any beginning tips? I've got some Japanese learning books already and have memorized Hiragana and Katakana - is it really hard to learn Kanji?
Great vids - can't wait to see more~

your apartment not have A/C, when i lived in on base near yokohama we did, but that was on base though.
Zdaytona05 3 years ago
Hi great video man, right now im studying japanese with that rosetta stone program so i wont be so lost in japan, i saw you said learning japanese would be immensly usefull, but i wanted to know how much would rent be on an apartment like yours?
enzoONNE 3 years ago
With respect to Saitama Prefecture, how much you pay is based on the Tokyo factor, the closer you are to Tokyo the more you will pay. A four room apartment close to Tokyo can maybe cost you in upwards of 68000 yen a month, while the same size apartment in HigashiGyoda might cost you only 48000 yen a month.

Just out of curiosity, what is "hot" in England? In Louisiana, hot mean 90+ degrees Fahrenheit, when a +10-20 degree heat index and 80% humidity.

I just stumbled across your videos & thought they were very helpful & informative. I just applied for the 2008 JET program & was wondering if you might have any tips about the interviews or anything else?
imastrgazer 4 years ago
imastrgazer: Thanks for the comment! As for the JET interview, I really recommend emphasizing your desire to learn about Japanese culture and that you want to share YOUR culture with your students. The JET programme seems to be more about cultural exchange than actual language teaching these days. All the best and good luck! =)
Posatrocible 4 years ago
hey Posatrocible. just how can someone use to get into JET. you know the website. i never used it before. i was told by others to watch myself. well you know on games you can get scammed. that's what other people told me to do just to make sure i don't get scammed.
goku178 4 years ago
thanks for the advice. i ended up not getting a JET placement, but I was offered a job as an ESL teacher in Japan through another company. Your "day in the life" videos actually helped me prepare for the move. thanks again.

Hello! I subbed. I like your vids.
Life is Japan must be great!
Have you ever felt in love with a Japanese girl...they seem to be so sweet and good people.
Have you ever felt linguistically 'trapped' and felt like going home?
Kind regards,

sry for typing twice but. I wanna ask.
1.Are u there alone, or do u have anyone that u knew before u moved there?
2.Would u recommend traveling or moving to japan?
SwedenLover 4 years ago
SwedenLover: Thanks for the comments!
1. I came alone, but it was easy to make friends quickly among the ex-pat community as well as neighbours, etc.
2. I think traveling is fun, of course, but anyone who really wants to experience Japanese culture needs to settle down and live in a place for a while.
Posatrocible 4 years ago
thx for the answer ^^ :D hope u'll make a spring and a fall clip ^^. I heard roumers that your not living in Japan and more. That you moved home. =(

I heard that things are more expensive in japan, is it true?
have you ever seen a pokemon parade? XD
whats the craziest thing that you've ever seen? (differing from US culture)
are videogamees really important there?
does the lifestyle seem more relaxed/ tense then US?
THANK YOU, what a great experience, man. i think i'm gonna go there in a couple years.
appleslime 4 years ago
appleslime: Great questions!
