@nickf9805 the 700r4 has a higher ratio for its first gear.... which means a faster start... though it does drop considerably from 1st to 2nd... and though yes the 700r4 is rather weak... it doesnt seem like he's running that much power through it... so for now.. its fine..
I love my 305. I have had 5.0's, LT1 TA's and 4.6's DOHC and SOHC.. all modded. The 305 isnt fast, buts its dead reliable and with TPI makes a fun bottom end ride. If you get some headers and y pipe, pullies and do free mods you should run mid 14's. With a high flow cat, K&N's, runners, better cam and tune its 13.8's. Add some roller rockers, port the base, plenum its low mid 13's. then ported heads, 3.42 gears and a tq converter its low to mid 12's.. not bad for a 305.
15.4 is really good for a 305 is that the tbi or the tpi version because the tpi had 230hp and the tbi has 170hp wich would match the times of a stock camaro

Same car with a 200r4 would feel faster and run better beacause the ratios are closer. 200r4 are what came in GN Regals so they can handle power. A better solution would be a th350 with a gear vendors overdrive unit. This will give you a 6 speed auto and when teamed with a 4.11 you can cruise on the highway in od an have great launches.

thats the iroc tpi from 88 is ure air box square or is it a big circle on the intake manifold. headers are a good idea but just running 93 pump gas with ure mods will basically eliminate any reason for the chip unless u got a limiter on it like my 92 RS 305 tbi.

stock heads.. port matched headers into a 3 inch collector that went to a 3 inch Y pipe and a full american thunder 3 inch cat back exhaust..
