@olivermctexas It wasn't just drink. Rory had problems with anxiety and depression, and was prescribed medications that did not mix well with the booze, and damaged his liver. He also over did it with Tylenol, which is very bad for your liver, if you are a heavy boozer.

Rory Gallagher a great guitar player and I agree he was a natural...He always played with passion and never to impress...I don't know if he is loved here in Greece but i know that i love him...My father saw him performing live in 1981 in AEK's stadium...The concert stopped and there were riots...Athens got burned pretty badly...

Even IF we don't like a style/song we know talent when we see it. That is why I respect SO MANY classical musicians. They are in my opinion(and i have over 40 years exp as a musician) the best overall. Rock is actually not in the top for most musicians. Jazz also has extremely great musicians. One musician that I think is at least near the greatest ever is Frank Gambale. NOt sure if he is considered jazz, rock fusion? @odingr believe me mate it was. I was lucky enough to see Rory live. The greatest gig I have ever seen. No exaggeration. THE greatest of the many gigs I have seen. He was an anti star and yet had such presence. It was real right enough.

Rory Gallagher a great guitar player and I agree he was a natural...He always played with passion and never to impress...I don't know if he is loved here in Greece but i know that i love him...My father saw him performing live in 1981 in AEK's stadium...The concert stopped and there were riots...Athens got burned pretty badly...

He was front page news when he died!

@110463160264 - du hast im großen und ganzen Recht, Rory war ein Außnahmegitarist, aber, leider bezüglich Shadow Play falsch informiert, Rory benutze damals in den 80er Jahren Boss Effekte, bei Shadow Play kam ein Boss Phaser, ein Boss Overdrive sowie ein 1978er 50 W Marchall Combo ( für die Verzerrung ) zum Einsatz, paralell powerte ein VOX AC 30 Top Boost, das ganze an, und sorgte für warme Mitten, mit wenig Verzerrung, Rory was the master of blues rock

Even IF we don't like a style/song we know talent when we see it. That is why I respect SO MANY classical musicians. They are in my opinion(and i have over 40 years exp as a musician) the best overall. Rock is actually not in the top for most musicians. Jazz also has extremely great musicians. One musician that I think is at least near the greatest ever is Frank Gambale. NOt sure if he is considered jazz, rock fusion? But EXTREMELY fast and with that taste.Both of which are necessary for the top

No illuminati signs in his music no bombs on stage no laser weapons just a blue jeans, a shirt, an Vox AC 30 and his legendary 1961 Fender Stratocaster and a perfect band! I miss him so much!!!!!!!! The hendrix-Rory Gallagher rumor is a myth, initially said to be Phil Keaggy. (snopes.com for proof & its still a myth)........Hendrix was a bit egotistical, he probs wouldn't of said such a thing about anybody let alone have known bout Rory. Ritchie brought Bach to Rock. It was Ritchie who first injected rock guitar with the classical scales and chord progressions that inspired future legions of rock guitarists. Brilliant improvisationalist. Unique, original, instantly-recognizable lead style. Perhaps his biggest strength is that he's Ritchie Blackmore and the rest of us aren't.
