  • How would this pedal react if it was going into a tube power amp?

Im using a 5150 combo and i want a decent multi-fx to mess around with and play different styles. So im thinking i can run the output on this into the "FX-Return". As im sure you know, the 5150 isn't all that versatile.

    Thanks =)

  • @MichaelLozano12 You probably have to do some EQ tweaking but it should sound descent.

  • @extremevideopro Could you do a slash tone for the pod x3 live? PLZ! you would make my life!

  • What guitar is that? How much it will cost me to get that gear? Thanks :)

  • @granskater That's a Jackson DK2S. If you could still get one it cost around 800 or 900 US$ It's a very good guitar and it plays and feels just as good as any high dollar guitar.

  • @extremevideopro Hum,i found a Jackson DK2 pro series that comes with a sustain pickup or something like that. How does the neck feel? Is the tremolo any close as good as the Ibanez Edge Pro? With this guitar and the Pod X3 i can get the exact same sound than steve vai? I would really apreciate any info about ur gear(guitra, pedals, amps)Thanks. :)

  • @granskater Like I said the neck feels great. I have a Steve Vai Jem and the trem on that Jackson is just as good. But to answer your question, if you get this guitar and the X3 will you have the exact same sound as Steve Vai.. . . . NO Only Steve Vai can sound like Steve Vai.

  • @extremevideopro Ok thanks for the info,One more question if its okay to you.I have heard that the Floyd rose are different from the Edge tremolos and the Single coil pickups arent good for rock.Is this true? Sorry to be annoying and all.

  • @granskater Yes I think the NEW Edge trems are better than the Floyd but not the older Edge Pro. It's not that single coils are not good for rock but if you want a really beefy high gain sound you should go with humbuckers. You can always coil tap the humbuckers if you ever want the single coil sound. It does have it's place in rock history. After all Hendrix used single coils on his guitars. So did Clapton and Gilmore and scores of other very historic rock guitar icons.

  • @extremevideopro So which guitar should i go with? Buy this jackson and the pod x3 or just an ibanez rg1550(cant decide because my amp sucks really bad)

  • @granskater I don't know where you are from but if you have a local store why not go down there and try some stuff out..

  • this patch not in your site. send me please ??

    thanks

    alecongiu67@libero.it

  • Wow, I'm speakless. You are the best guitarist in the universum. Absolutely Great....

  • Glen can you do a Vai tone demo with the POD HD500 ? :)

  • Hey Glenn I have serious problems... When I want to proof my "tone 2" in my Line 6 as you on 05:21, it doesn't make sound. It is muted! I reviewed the pedal and is in 100%. I returned to "tone 1" and it sounds perfectly, but with "tone 2" its totally muted. What happened?. And what can I solve it?. Thank you so much.

  • @Daniel1427 Daniel, make sure the" input setting" of tone 2 is set to "guitar".

  • @extremevideopro .. awesome ear for tone and incredible playing.. I'm thinking of buying an x3 live and these videos have sold me... Im wondering if it would do a nuno bettencourt tone?? I always wanted the pornograffitti sound and found it very hard to achieve.. cheers dude.

  • GREAT WORK AND GREAT TONE! i'm new to pod x3 live, now i've got one, and when i plug my headphones into it with all volumes down i heard a little hiss background noise, can you tell me please if it's normal or not? the unit it's brand new but on may old xt live i've never heard this hiss noise through the headphones plug,, thanks for your tutorials! and for sharing your knoledge!

  • can i mix tone 1 and tone 2 together in POD HD 500 and pan the two different tones like you did in pod x3 live?

  • @n70amu Yes Bis you can.

  • thank you

  • I take it you are using your Sustainiac pickup? I dialed in the tone, now I just want that nice sustain without routing out a chunk of my RG.

  • You amazing Glenn Your ear is incredible for dialing in tone. Im always amazed when I see you pick with your thumb its incredible. Great Job once again man the sound is incredible.

  • @danbenkert Thank you Danny

  • Really great aproach to Steve's tone. Sounds really great!!

  • @Iverdero Thank you

  • goddamn this is badass

  • Can we do it on PODxt Live??/

  • what software do you use to record???

  • @JuanBluesMan I use Steinberg Cubase SX3

  • 27 dislikes??? For what? Amazing tone!!!

  • can i do this same thing on the pod hd 500?

  • @GuitarKiD4599 Sure, I don't see why not.

  • @extremevideopro ah ok cuz i was debating whether or not to get the Pod HD500 and i reallly liked this tone so if i could get sounds like this i would really love this piece of equipment. :D .....would you recomend the HD500 for multieffects? if not.. then what would be a better? thank you for replying!

  • @GuitarKiD4599 Yes i would recommend it.

  • @extremevideopro thanks!! hopefully ill get it soon!

  • One of my favorite songs of all time!

  • I`m gonna buy this machine tomorrow!!!

  • oh my god!! So much adjusting for a tone????

  • For those who want to hear what it sounds like first, he starts playing at 7:15

  • highest knowledge, highest guitar player.

    play some! please!

  • it seems harder to learn the POD X3 then learn to accually play the guitar:D

  • dude will u make steve vai tone patch for zoom g1x users plzzzz

  • pod x3 live is super cooooooooool

  • very kind of you to show us all these settings! great play, guy!

  • What Amp do u use??

  • @Voddgreen Hey Victor, I am using a Marshall JCM2000 DSL100 right now for live but I didn't use an amp on this recording. This was done with the POD X3-Live recorded direct to computer.

  • Omg, your picking just with thumb just blow my mind! Awesome tone and playing man!

  • @SEVENTHSON89 Thanks bro

  • @extremevideopro thath guitar sounds amazing, which model is?

  • @Lunamarte13 That's a Jackson DK2S

  • your POD vids are very helpful man

  • Why do you give such specific numbers?

  • i see that you are using sustainer in neck pickup, is that true?

  • @derzasekolahdidd Yes I am using the sustainer pick-up.

  • hi, send me the tone steve vai please. thanks

  • I've never seen anyone use their thumb as amazingly as you...ok, maybe except for sting...Nice job...thx man.

  • @stripes5150 Thanks bro, check out Chris Broderick of Megadeth. He uses a thumb pick too.

  • @extremevideopro No prob...Keep on uploading...you help out bigtime.

  • hi guys ... Anyone know of LINE6 M13?

looks like 'and quite flexible in configuration .... like to know the opinion of you .... thank you for attention

  • maybe im not far enough into the video, so sorry if you answer the question haha. but are you using any kind of amp? or are you running just the pedal?

  • @MultiBlahblahblah3 No this was recorded direct. no amp, Only the pedal.

  • I used this tone for my cover of this! (please check it out)

The way you handle the thumbpick is unreal btw.

  • I have never in my life seen someone shred like that with a thumbpick. Kudos.

  • can you play it directly into a cab?

  • @SinetMariusYo No, you need some sort of power amplification.

  • @extremevideopro tnx :D

  • I'm curious which is best Gain / Dist / Level / parameter

to bring up the level for lower powered pickups?

    - any suggestions?

  • @phildoughty I would say Level is best to bring up the volume of week pick-ups. You could also raise the height of the pick-ups on the guiitar.

  • @extremevideopro My pickups are already nicely balanced with each other

but they are just not really *hot* output pickups,

So I'm not getting quite the same distortion are you are

-Thank you btw your vids really have helped to

take a lot of the Mystery out of getting good tones

  • man this is a great sound, reaaly clean!!!

one day I'll understand all these little configurations O.O

  • thanks man. this is awesome. I'm planning to have an pod X3. this video gives me some consideration in regards to purchasing an x3. The tone of my guitar Hero.

  • it's fantastic tone.

My guitar Lag Arkane 200 it's now rignt.

    Thanks!!!

  • If you look closely there is a clear pick on his thumb

  • @aptin ;-)

  • NO PICK!!! awesome!!!

  • Thanks Glenn, These videos you post up here have really helped me with my Pod x3. From your demonstrations, i've learned how to create my own sounds.

  • @camarogeneral Great, that is the reason why I do these videos.

  • @camarogeneral Thanks for the vids , now i´m getting the best out of my Pod X3, could you please in future post a Van Halen patch ?

  • hey do u plug the x3 into an amp? if not what plug in into cos i dont see u using headphones

  • @zackczj Yes I am using headphones. You see the wire hanging down in front of me. That's headphones.

  • @extremevideopro sorry i mean in ur other videos! cos when i plug in headphones to my line6 it sounds kinda crappy..

  • Hi Glen. I was wondering where you get your backing tracks from? Any info would be great, thanks. Awesome videos btw.

  • @jlurenz I record all of my backing tracks myself.

  • do you use any amp with your X3 live on this demo or only pc

  • @2tonpredator No amp used. This was recorded direct to PC

  • @extremevideopro that's great man

  • shall i get a pod x3 live or a HD500

  • @ssskkkiiibbbaaa I'd say the HD500 is a step up from the X3

  • @extremevideopro has the HD500 have everything the X3 have. waht better about the HD500

  • @ssskkkiiibbbaaa That's a good question. The X3-Live has way more amp models than the HD500. But the HD500 has less amp models and most of them are not in the X3

  • @extremevideopro could i get this steve vai tone on the HD500

  • @ssskkkiiibbbaaa You may be able to come close. In fact someone has already made this patch. He may have posted it on Line6 Custom tone.

  • @extremevideopro ok. thanks. 1 more queston. what guitar are you using in this video

  • @ssskkkiiibbbaaa That's a Jackson DK2S

  • @SnakePitGuitar Thank you. Those are Dunlop Clear Large Thumb Picks

  • wow nice probably a classical guitar player. I only one other guy who picks/plucks the same way as you using an electric guitar. awesome!

  • if you could you should totally do a Dimebag Darrell tone :D if you could do that you would have to be the coolest guy in the world lol but awesome tone, a lot of your stuff hass really helpin me understand the pedal and how all the stuff works together

  • Hey Glenn, please tell me: what1s the name of this patch on your patch bundle which is on you site??? I downloaded the bundle, but i cant find it!

Please, how is the name of it??

  • @WapServices I think it's called Steve Vai isn't it?? or Vai Vai, something like that.

  • @extremevideopro Hey, thanks for your atention! and no, there isn't any preset with vai on the name, there only Satriani, Hendrix, Page and SRV, but no Vai and Metallica!! The mettalica is separately on your site, but vai not.

And I see on your video at 6:43 that you are using the 18a "patch space"(i dont remember the name ^^),

but in your bundle it's called "18A Clean+(User).l6t".

You already have this patch on your omputer or on you POD??(if you not own it)

Thanks for the video and attention!

  • @WapServices Oh, I'm sorry, I thought it was in there. If you watch the video and follow the directions you can dial it in in just a few minutes.

  • @extremevideopro Well, thanks. I"ll spend a little more time on my pod. Thanks very much, and keep up the good work!! And sorry by my bad english, i'm brazilian!

  • i don't think it's spot on

    not really grainy enough

  • Really nice playing and great tone. Love this song

  • For the Love of GOD man use a pick, LOL just kidding very nice!!!!!!

  • @2fulltilt Thanks, Well I am using a thumb pick. I know it's kinda hard to see cos' it's a clear pick.

  • holy shit he's thumb picking this entire thing... hahaha

  • Hi Glenn, Do you think I can get this kind of distortion with the pod hd500? I really don't know which one I should get!! Thanks

  • @fcamposd1 I'm starting to wonder about that myself. Just the other night I had to do some really high gain Randy Rhodes type stuff. The HD just didn't have it. (Or maybe I just didn't know how to dial it in). Pulled out the X3-Live and BAM!! nailed that track!! I'm starting to have my doubts about the HD units. Sorry Line6 but that is my honest opinion from a real world scenario in the studio. It seems to me that the X3 high gain amp models have more saturation.

  • Hi Glenn. I've just bought a new HD500 on Friday of last week. Since then I've been trying to get some workable tones from it to go straight to the PA. Unfortunately this isn't happening for me with this unit. I used to own an X3 and had no trouble dialling in sounds with that, so what am I doing wrong? I don't have the PA at home to plug it in there, so I've been using the headphone socket instead. Can you help, as everything just sounds compressed and digital. Thanks in advance, Mark

  • @stookiebhoy Mark, make sure your output mode is set to Studio Match Direct and try the Amp Pre Models with a stomp in front. I like the Screamer. Also if you check out the Gear page forum in the Modelers section there are lots a good usable tones that people are posting. I've tried a few myself and they are quite good!!

  • hi ,Glenn ,,in your estimation are the tones you can get with a hd 400 better than the x3 live ? tx

  • @bubzulu Hmmm, that is debatable!! The 400 has the exact same models as the 500 so that's good. The X3-Live has many more amp models though. Sound wise they are close. The main difference I hear is the dynamics are better in the HD's.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks Glenn , Also thanks for your tone demo's . They are so informative and sound so good ....

  • @extremevideopro Thanks Glenn ,also thanks for posting your tone videos , they work really well .

  • great! what pickup u use for the song?? seymour duncan TB4? sustainiac?

  • @lomalmsteen Yes this guitar has the sustainiac and an SD Humbucker. Not sure what model though.

  • @extremevideopro do you think it is worth getting the Pod x3 or should i just get the Pod xt

  • @WinterMadness05 You should check out the new POD HD500

  • Great stuff. How can you be so extremely precise with levels of each effect? Do each setting have a specific reason to be exactly on a certain point?

  • @solenelle Thank you. I have worked out all of the levels before hand so I know what my settings are. Then I show you how to create them for yourself on your own device.

  • You nailed that tone just like the original good on ya for sharing cheers........

  • What is he playing into? Active speakers, PA system? I have the X3 too and similar guitar (dk2m) but b\c my cheap speakers my tone is nothing like this lol

  • @steel8909 This is recorded direct

  • @extremevideopro Ok, if you wanted to play live, how would you achieve this sound?

  • @steel8909 You would go direct right into the PA.

  • what guitar do you use here man?

  • @anajimakos14 That's a Jackson DK2S

  • Watching how you tweak the thing is very inspiring.

In fact this vid is the reason I bought a PodX3 !

thanks for showing the way :)

  • @Vinchester87 You're welcome

  • @Vinchester87 อิอิ

  • Glenn u r e man!!!!!! I just got me an X3 Live after watching u! Was undecided between GT 10 or X3 Live. I am using a PRS Torero though..... couldn't get the sweet tone that ur guitar has..... Torero has a fat tone cos of the EMG's.love ur demos man!!!!!!

  • @faizal5271 Thank you, yeah gotta love those PRS guitars.

  • holy shit !! ur thumb!!

  • They are very sympathetic, not only that you are an amazing guitarist, you are a true role model and play with a lot of feeling!

  • Hi mate, i just bought one of these today, will be bugging you with lots of questions if thats ok? cheers, Paul

  • there is no amps? can u plug directly into pc and use through the pc's speakers? and record?

  • @STMPKR Yes you can.

  • @extremevideopro thanks so very much

  • @extremevideopro

    with usb?

is the sound through the speakers processed?

  • nice steve vai tone...soo freaking like steve...

  • I notice you by pass the volume pedal section, why is that? I am running direct to a PA so I am setting it up "Pre Config" Thanks in advance for your help, learned a lot from your videos. You need to write the next manual for LINE 6!!!

  • @ppsmitty I'm not sure why I have it set that way. I think it's set that way by default isn't it?

  • Seems hard to configure that thing... takes some time to find how you like everything...

  • Comment removed

  • @mxnblaze I wish I could tell you but I don't know. I set up all my guitars myself and I go on feel not measurements. I can tell you this. I don't like my strings too close to the neck. I like to be able to feel the strings and I like to be able to really "dig in" to the neck to pull off a bend. You know what I mean?? I guess my strings are a fraction above what would be a perfectly height adjusted neck.

  • oh my god. You're sooo good. how long have you benn playing? not to be missing the point but what guitar?

  • @snazygitrst That's a Jackson DK2S

  • @racke1993bg For this type of music, yes I think it is.

  • Dude you need to link me or make a tutorial on how to pick with your thumb like that... thats amazing O_O

  • @medellin999 You can use this setting on the XT but you only have one amp model instead of 2 amp models as shown here.

  • i no its a little much but could you possibly make a yngwie malmsteen tone?

BTW whats your amp setup cause i got a whole lot of feed back with my lower strings ( E, A, D)

    please and thank you :)

    -Ray

  • @specialray21 There is no amp on this. This is recorded direct using the settings I show in the video.

  • @extremevideopro oh okay that makes sense thanx. much thanks.

do you know how to get a yngwie malmsteen tone? i cant figure it out

  • so did you play to the track then sync the video up with the 2 audio tracks (backing and your direct recording) ?

    what software do you use?

  • @beewoy Yes that's right. I use Cubase SX3 for audio recoridng.

  • That sound is awesome! Sounds like Steve Vai for sure!

  • what's your setting for the on board eq on the x3l?

  • @09phatman09 Those are all set flat.

  • Thumb picking!!! Didn't expect to see that these days.. wow! amazing!

  • haha love the beginning.. like getting ready to fly an airplane :) Wanna get one.

  • sounds very close to Steve Vai.

  • and this has been plugged directly in your 30 watt amp?

  • @nigelptl No this was recorded direct from the X3. No external amp was used.

  • Really great job Glenn!! Both your playing and equipment handling are at Pro+ level. No other Pod x3 live video's are as useful as yours. Keep it up!

    Btw.

Could you give a whirl/hint to a patch for the lead/guitarsolo of Europe's "Superstition"?

    Thanks!

  • At first it didn't sound much like a steve vai tone. But then you played the cover, the sound blew my mind.

  • i got my pod x3 now but i cant get a really good tone out of it even when i use your patches could it be because of my amp or guitar??? the model of my guitar is ESP F and i have a line 6 spider 3 of 30 watts. thanks for answering all of my questions so far

  • hey man....what guitar is it ???

  • @rdt78 Jackson DK2S

  • @extremevideopro thanks ...my friend...

  • tone2 works only when I put my headphones on, I can't hear it through my amp??
