I was there in Markham, Ontario. He also appeared the year before at Long & McQuade in Oshawa, Ont. A great guy and a damn fine guitarist. I hope he comes back soon.
Greg Koch is probably the best all around guitarist I've ever seen. That being said, the only guitarist worth a damn I haven't personally seen live is Hendrix. Trust me when I tell you, there are no better!!
@theultimateknowledge duane allman, bb king, albert king, freddie king, tommy emmanuel, srv, buddy guy, dickey betts, george benson, wes montgomery, jeff beck, charlie christian, eric clapton, jack pearson and too much more to name would like to have a word with you....
it IS about more notes.. sometimes i take tab paper and i fill every centimeter with more notes than anyone could ever play, add a crybaby and nothing could be better (or faster)
Classic case of overplaying . These guys are so advanced , they are bored playing straight melodies so they feel they have to add 350 000 extra notes to it... impressive but pointless ... Music is not a competition sport .
Greg is known for his quick-pickin style...it's what he does. And what he does best. Some lesser brains cannot focus on all those notes (350 000 extra) but what a treat for those of us that can hear & follow along (if only in our heads, lol). Go back to your easy-listening if you can't hang.
Easy listening my butt ! Music is not about how many notes ! Listen to BB King on the subject . Some can put more soul into one note than most wankers in a thousand. Again , MUSIC IS NOT A COMPETITIVE SPORT ! It's not how many notes you can play ... You forgot about one little thing : the music ... you obviously are impressed by speed, good for you , but to me ( and most serious musicians ) it's about soul . Stop judging because you sre the most close-minded here.
I get your point, but like I said ,music is not a competitive sport... it's not how many notes you can shred in 5 seconds, it's about the feeling you bring to the table. Not so much about showing off "mine is bigger tha yours " type of discussion ... anyway we could argue forever. Greg Koch is a very talented musician, my point was, this video is a little self-indulgent for MY taste ... again,MY opinion...
To all the dipshits that think it is their obligation to critique Greg Koch and his band, you should probably rethink your life. Greg isnt trying to top the charts or be #1. They are all just having fun and LOVE playing music like any REAL musician would. That is why they throw in riffs from classic songs like stairway, stranglehold, catscratch fever; because its entertaining and makes people laugh. So to all the critics, get a life. You dont have to talk them down because you suck as a musician
I take trumpet lessons at that same store he is also very good

he played an amazing fingerstyle version of Lady Madonna mixed with Chet Atkin's Mr. Sandman, does anyone have that video?

If you search for "Greg Koch: Mr. Sandman and some more" he plays something that sounds like what you describe :)

I would argue to say that "the most serious musicians" are able to appreciate more complex music, rather than just the blues and pop.

he's playing a tele with a humbucker in the neck.. fatter sound. Yes I think he's let the strat go in favor of the tele

Telecasters are more stable than trem model Strats. Teles rule the Fender roost.

As a drummer, I am EMBARRASED for that overplaying, lame excuse for a timekeeper!! Play for the music, not for yourself!!
