Just to bring a new perspective, my primary reason for owning guns is that I enjoy shooting them and owning them as pieces of history (I gravitate towards old military weapons). I'm certainly prepared to use them in self-defense if need be, but I have never shot at a human being, and I have no plans to ever do so.
