Consumerism is the fostering of a desire to purchase things in ever greater amounts, for dubious economic and/or personal gratification. Obviously it's not creating or having goods in itself but the way they are made, used and disposed of along with the glorification of acquiring of them that is the problem.
@Argie87 The ideas isn't not to buy things, the idea is not to buy and make more than you and others need, especially when it means that people are exploited and the natural world is destroyed, but these products that you refer to are simply being used as a means of communication.
Is he really crazy/satirical/mocking? I think he could have found a better gig by now. (M. Colbert got that invite to the Correspondent's Dinner). He's not really saying too much different from the (other?) religious leaders who've been at the Park (fair play, love of money is the root of all evil = idolatry = wasted life and waste of the world) and perhaps you're not familiar with some of the more energetic preaching styles of the US Church--he almost has them, but not quite.
Secret mathematics, this guy is either on some sort of a substance or lost mentally. Honestly people now will listen to anyone who sounds like hes saying something important and political. I mean listen to this. I thought this was a joke, but people actually back this guy and believe in what he says. the whole rising thing just creeped me out.
He's not being exactly serious, it's his TV personality similar to how Stephen Colbert has a TV personality that exaggerates views. He's kinda just providing publicity and entertainment for the OWS protesters.
Go Rev, the world is behind you, they just dont all know it yet. Lets hope those good folks of the USA wake up to the reality of what those GREEDY,EVIL bankers have created for the other 99% of the population. Its time for a change, Communism dosent work, Capatilism neither-its time for Schumachers Buddhist Economics as if people really matter. Something beautiful has started here-we owe you REV xx
Thank Goodness you posted this - I was having one of those awfully pitifully rotten days, but you've redeemed me from the sewers of my mind & brought me back to the Central Park of My Soul! Parksalujah!
Behind every GREAT man, is a GREAT woman. (on sometimes visa versa) And that woman is Savitri! Go Savitri!!! Standing ovation. Well done. Hang in there. You're fierce! and FABULOUS. Thanks for your work.
