You are so talented and an inspiration! Great tips on the staircase. I have the same coastal look as yours. Would love to know the color blue paint that you used in your living area. Beautiful. Thanks for all your great know how and sharing it with all of us.
rebecca. love yr videos. i am so inspired with them.my teenage daughter just couldnt believe that i watch your videos that many times. i took notes and went round the city to try and buy the ornaments. i know i wouldnt get exactly the same things but at least, 70% close, i would be happy. the idea of hanging the baubles inside really is a good tip!!! thanks rebecca!!!
Rebecca, I have just found your videos and they are the best ones I've seen, by far. You are so precise with sharing your tips and techniques. Thank you so much for sharing. Love your style, including the grapevine around the tree. Living in Texas, I've used that tip, and I loved how it gave the tree a more elegant look. Wishing you and your family a beautiful, and Merry Christmas this year.
This just made me laugh when you were talking about the lights!! LOL I quit checking for the ones that don't work too!! Thanks for the laughs and for all the great advice. Love you so much!!
Thank you for all your help.Eventhough, its November 29 2011 I have decided to decorate my house similiar to this. Since I am from California living in Arizona. A little bit of home.
gosh moved into a new house with a nice lil staircase, not nearly as beautiful as yours but atleast hope to make it look pretty for the season. I enjoyed these videos last year and enjoyin them this year. Thanks for all these videos.
Your decor is SO amazing! Thank you for sharing all your helpful tips and creative ideas. Your videos always put me in the Christmas spirit! I'm just dying for you to put something up this year! Hope you're considering it :) Also hope you're enjoying your holiday season so far. Thank you again! Your loyal fan, Mo :)
Wow! Love your staircase that so beautiful hun... I don't have a staircase myself but you gave me some good ideas on how to use garland and lights and make it look beautiful.. :)
You are too cool for words! Very spontaneous, funny and very good at what you do and love! I'm so glad I discovered your channel - I'm an instant fan!
I just actually finished decorating my tree (too bad, because I would have loved to use your ideas especially the twig - sooo organic, just love it!). But, there's always next year and for sure I will try A LOT OF your suggestions!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'll try to share my decor once I'm done - that is, if I have the guts to!
We do peacock colors - Small birds on the branches. Purple, Gold, Green & Blue balls & Decor. Also we include small peacock feathers & the top piece is a collection of large feathers.
Hi @emilyisatexasgirl, interesting that you should ask... I was just thinking about that :-)
My son Scott moved to Chicago this year and we are considering visiting him for Christmas. I LOVE snow and California just doesn't do it for me at Christmas ... lol... So, the big question is... do I go ahead and decorate if we are going to be gone the week of Christmas.... I suspect I will, but it's a lot of work and I need to see what is going on at the time... thanks for asking, we'll see ;-) RR
It's so refreshing to see someone who has Christmas spirit as you do. It's my favorite time of the year and your decorating and your house is beautiful! Thanks for all the great tips :)
WOW!!! What an absolute plethora of AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL ideas! I will definately implement pretty much every suggestion you've made in this video-and your tree decorating video-to my own tree and banister-decorating agenda this Christmas, (2011)! I sincerely love your videos...OMG you are so brilliant and incredibly watchable!! Please keep posting your amazing & informative videos and have a happy, healthy new year with continued success!!
great video i too go crazy with cristmasizing every year! i do a different design every year, my family and friends lov it they say its just like walking thru a department store.lol i have been asked to do classes and videos as well to show how to decorate indoors and out. i have many tips as well i use for decorating. i do many trees from 4 feet up to 15 feet tall.and well over 5000 feet of garland. with me doing all this i have to do mine in late oct as any later and i dont get it done rite
I LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is just fabulous!! I wish you would do a step-by-step video though. Show in detail how you put the ribbon, extra twigs, ornaments and all the little extras in the garland. I love decorating over the top too ( I also make my bed everyday) I just have a hard time knowing where to place some things and HOW to get them to stay in place.
Great video, thanks so much for sharing your talent and home!
I love the design of your stairs. Are those crystals hanging down at the top of the stair railing? If so where did you find those? I would love to put them on my stairs!
Hi, I just stumbled across your videos and I not only have I felt the need to thank you for taking the time to film and post these videos but also because you have given me great inspiration for next year. I missed the magic when growing up as my parents divorced when I was 9, now at the age of 26 I'm determined to make sure my son's Christmas is magical. This year we're at my mom's but next year, I am taking a leaf from your book! Thank you so much for helping with my Christmas spirit! xx
Hey there! You do great work...You have such a great eye and while it may seem like a lot to go through for some, I think decorating your home for the holidays just adds that extra touch and makes such a difference in the festiveness. Anyway, keep on sharing, you have a bunch of fans! BTW, how your personality comes through in sharing tips and demystifying the design process reminds me of Karen McAloon who was on HGTV. I really liked her too. :-)
Hi @MillymollysX, I can understand your thinking. Believe me, it is a lot of work to put it up ... and take it down... but its the same principals as making your bed. Why, you are just going to sleep in it again the next night! I guess its a matter of Tradition in America and most of us do it. As a Designer I do more than most but thats to be expected. It does create a festive mood and is enjoyed by my family and guests we have to our home for the Holidays. My mom did it big and so do I.
@robesondesign I totally agree with you Rebecca... Clearly this is a matter of personal taste. I mean, why would you take a shower if you're only going to get dirty by the end of the day? All that effort gone to waste. Or, why would you bother washing your clothes b/c they're going to get dirty anyways? Again, all that effort gone to waste. I guess everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion... Keep up the awesome videos Rebecca, many of us like to make that extra effort. ;-)
you have a beautiful home! and your are an amazing decorater i cant wait to try this for next year after i buy some things to decorate my stairs with! thanks so much for this video
wow; the fact that you thought ahead enough to position outlets and get a staircase railing to support christmas deocorating is fantastic. Great video, thank you so much.
wow the decorations are amazing! you're so creative!! i hope one day i could have my house as nicely decorated as yours during the Christmas holiday! i wonder though, is it a pain taking everything down and separating all of it?
I really like your videos and think you've done a great job but in the future please don't use the evil S -name when we are viewing Christmas decorations. I know you don't mean it in the worst way but still... I am trying to get the Christmas Spirit after all :) Thanks!
You gave wonderful design tips and the staircase looks beautiful, however I was quite dismayed to hear that you throw away perfectly functional strands of lights due to the failure of one bulb. The fact that lights are inexpensive doesn't justify throwing them away and adding to landfill mass when they can be reused. Someone with limited finances might be quite happy to buy your lights from a charity resale shop, schools and homeless shelters could benefit from a little holiday cheer as well!
I have watched your other videos and enjoyed them, the one about the tongue cleaner...very funny! I will subscribe, can't wait to see the mantel video. Merry Christmas!
Great video! I also do a different theme every year, depending on my mood and what I like at the time. This year I am doing an "Under the sea" tree. With starfish, seashells, clear and irridescent balls, and coral. I was wondering if you would do a video on decorating a mantel with garland, lights, greens and starfish and shells. I see you have a lot of coastal decor items around your house too. It would help me a lot to see what yu would do, and would give me inspiration.
Funny you should ask... @ShellyJo ...The final video ... #4 in this series covers that subject. It has already been filmed and is waiting to be edited. I hope to upload this weekend. For now, I would recommend you watch "Christmas Decorating #1 and #2 if you have not already done so. Go to my channel page and they are all on the right hand side. Thanks for watching and leaving a nice comment. I hope you will consider subscribing too so you can be notified every time we upload a new video. RR
Hi @nflower102, I do most of my shopping at a wholesale floral supply store here in San Diego called Shinoda. You can find "some" similar items at a Michael's craft store if you have one where you live :-)
i am in awe with ur decorating. please keep making them. i love to change things up in my home and u inspire me more. where did u purchase the garland and piks?
Where is Part 4, Rebecca? We're waiting....LOL! I absolutely love your videos. I'm totally hooked. I started decorating my home for the holidays today ( I just couldn't bring myself to do it before Thanksgiving). I plan to "borrow" a few of your ideas from each video in this series. Thanks a bunch!
@KNTC1922 LOL... You are the first to ask.... Thanks for counting ...LOL
I just filmed part 4 today ;-) I was waiting till the fresh garlands were available because I wanted t o include the point that I add the fresh greens the last week before Christmas. This adds the aroma we all want in our homes for Christmas. The video should be up by next weekend... have to wait on my video editor :-{
Thanks so much for asking. Glad you are enjoying the series! RR
I have always wanted to be an interior designer it's funny after I know someone for like 1 week I know just what their style is I design how I would decorate their house and they like how its designed
I love decorating from Christmas, but that last two years I've been living in a tiny flat. But I got married this summer and by next Christmas I'll be in a new house. The visions of sugarplums in my head are next year. I'll be ready.
Very nice tips for Christmas I think it makes everyone feel like decorating this year !! I put the lighted deer out every year but prefer them to be where I can see them from my bedroom window. Last year the neighbors told their children Santa was back there waiting for them to go to sleep...we hung some old boots outside their window on the roof to lull them to sleep haa haaaa
Pretty! I don't have a staircase, but I decorate the stairs outside my rentals for the holidays, and I may use the grapevine wreath idea from the tree. It looks wispy and pretty. BTW, I think the garland you're using is a facsimile of white pine. This year, my tree is rainbow again (blue, gold, red) and I'm toying with the idea of putting up big silk Chinese lanterns on the trees outside in the same bright colors. White pine garland on the porch, but maybe I'll try fabric ribbons.
@KittenToez , Thats a great idea to do the outside! My point is... decorate something :-) It will put you in the mood for the Holidays... which is a good thing RIGHT?
all your videos are amazing. i stumbled across your videos and your work is awesome. My house has no color in it and i cant wait to decorate my house with your ideas... thank you ...
I love your videos, they are so well done with great ideas and tips. You are so talented and your home is very beautiful. Thank you so much! I am looking forward to #4!
I have done the same with my lights every year. I don't fool with them either! I throw them away and buy new as well! With 3 kids I don't have the time to waste! LOVE your decorating ideas.
Yes the wall color is by Restoration Hardware. It's called Silver Sage.
If your floors are VERY dark... like espresso, it will look great. If they have a red or rust undertone, I would choose something with more green in it, less blue. Hope this helps. Welcome to my channel. I hope you find this to be a great source of ideas, tips and inspiration for your own home. RR
I just found you this morning and I've been watching video after video after video. Everything you touch turns to gold! Would you mind sharing the beautiful pale shade of blue/green you have on your walls? I have really dark wood floors and I want to lighten up my walls, but I don't want to use plain ol' white! Thank you for all of these great videos!!! :)
Really beautiful. I live here in San Diego too and was wondering where you got your "bird" for your staircase. Michael's perhaps? I use lots of birds in my tree and add a one or two birds each year. So far I have not seen any birds that catch my eye. But your's is very pretty. I love the look you were going for! You have really inspired me to do moreChristmas decorating all around my house and not just the tree! Thank you!
Hi @arell56, I am so glad yo have been inspired by this video series. The bird was purchased last year from Natural Touch which \has since closed :-( But you could probably find something similar at Shinoda a floral design supply store off Miramar Road. Keep you eye open at the mall too. Some of the "Christmas" stores have very beautiful things as well. Good luck and if when you are finished and love it, post me a video response so I can see how it turned out :-) RR
Rebecca--you have exquisite taste and talent! Thank you for the amazing tips; they are so logical but most people don't think of them so they waste a lot of time dealing with 'satan' heehee! You have such a gift and I'm so happy that you are willing to share with us. People say that my mom had a flair for interior decorating (she passed away in a car accident when I was 9) but watching your videos strangely takes me back in time to when I used to watch her--thank you for that, too! xoxo Melody
I'm currently attending interior design school, would you please make a video with advice for us students. or even a video talking about the things you know now that would of helped you during school! thanks. LOVE your videos!! ;D
Once again, you are amazing. Unfortunately I dont have an awesome staircase like you. Mine is somewhat hidden and only has a small banister. However Im still going to decorate it. I have never before, but Im just so motivated after watching your videos. Even though it might be a small banister, its gonna look nice this year. That way every time I go up stairs Ill see something Christmassy. Thanks
This was sooo helpful. I love the idea of starting your lights in the middle and moving outward. You're right too about the lights. My husband spends hours trying to find that one broken bulb. Great idea to just start over! not worth it. Beautiful as everything you touch. Love your videos!
@MrsSami09 I have one more to upload by the end of the week. After that, we'll see :-) THanks for asking and for watching. Hope you get some helpful ideas! RR

I just filmed part 4 today ;-) I was waiting till the fresh garlands were available because I wanted t o include the point that I add the fresh greens the last week before Christmas. This adds the aroma we all want in our homes for Christmas. The video should be up by next weekend... have to wait on my video editor :-{
Thanks so much for asking. Glad you are enjoying the series! RR

Thanks for showing us how to do it right

I have done the same with my lights every year. I don't fool with them either! I throw them away and buy new as well! With 3 kids I don't have the time to waste! LOVE your decorating ideas.

Glad you found me @tammyholmes :-)

You've inspired me to venture away from the traditional red I always use. Maybe I'll make a video response when the tree is up so you can see it. =)

Thank you!
arell56 1 year ago

People say that my mom had a flair for interior decorating (she passed away in a car accident when I was 9) but watching your videos strangely takes me back in time to when I used to watch her--thank you for that, too! xoxo Melody
