Wrong. I am a Latin Percussionist with 23 years of percussion experience. The bongos are played with the hands and have their particular techniques associated with them. Their roots are possibly in the "Bonko Echemi" of the Abakua secret societies of Cuba. They are NOT classical instruments. They've been culturally appropriated by white classicists who have absolutely no idea how to play them or their background. I applaud their use outside Latin circles, but they're not played this way.

@BlueRowan Search New York Blue Funk Orchestra, we use bongos with sticks and I only replace my heads 1 every 6 months. You have to know how to approach the bongo with sticks. I have played them like that for years and trust me it is another world if you KNOW HOW TO PLAY!

I never tried playing my bongos with sticks. I'm afraid to damage the skin. Maybe mallets yes, but never with sticks. Maybe i can use sticks only if i change the skins with remo skins, same as the skins i use with my drums set.

that concludes "how to play bongos". Bongos are played more with fingers than whole hands. More muted strokes than open ones (example would be the martillo). Bongos aren't popular at drumming circles because they take skill to play.
