No, there was 5 on the tour (Brown, Squire, Mani, Maddix, Ippinson)
I think what Mani was trying to say is that there was only four actually bothering (all of them except Squire), and thus one from five is 4...I dunno...he was probably stoned
....then he goes on (1:24) saying how dumb people are " don't people learn maths" he says emphatically, "One from Five is Four"......oh, its Four again is it, thought you just said Five???? Confused????? so is MANI. Guy is an idiot.
Shut it Mani, doesn't he say at 0.38 " The Stone Roses were four people on the last tour, one person leaves, ( i make that Three) use you basic maths, one away from FIVE is FOUR" (hello, weres the fifth come from....) Mani is an idiot and no-one should take any notice of what the guy is saying.....You watch early interviews, look at IAN, JOHN & RENI once Mani opens his gob!
I think the Roses were dead the minute Reni left the band. John Squire just put the nail in the coffin when he left. Even if the Reading festival wasn't the disaster it was and they continued to put out good music, it really wouldn't have been "The Stone Roses". That being said I have no hate towards Aziz Ibrahim or Robbie Madix. Its not their fault they weren't the Stone Roses...
Aziz is a top guitar player, why do people slate him? Haven't u heard his stuff with Brown? The man has is far talented then others out there, who get credit for nothing licks. As for joining the Roses, filling John Squire's shoes is almightly hard to do. Give him some credit ya fools
Aziz was wrong for the Stone Roses & they should never have tried to carry on, let alone attempt a Sunday headline at Reading festival! John Squire must've thought the band had gone mental after he left? Replacing Reni with Wilbert (aka Robbie Maddix) had to be done so the band could tour the 2nd album & recoup some of the dosh from Geffen..& I'm surprised they survived that! Blithely carrying on without Squire was a bonkers decision made by 3 very Stoned Roses deluded they'd pull it off..OOPS!
Squire was a brilliant guitarist and songwriter. Reni was an outstanding natural drummer with backing vocals far better than anything Ian could produce. They were left with a decent bassist, a decent front man and a bunch of fillers. What the fuck did they expect?
@noelwannabe your right mate squire was the bomb but he went about leaving the wrong way plus he chose coke over his m8s so am not 1 bit suprised they feel let down as 4 iziz hes gud but hes not jhon n never wud av bin they was 4 roses ian jhon mani n reni thats it 4 me long to c the day they reform
at the end of the day, john squire has more talent in his little finger than all of these put together. ian brown, the 'solo artist' rarely writes his songs on his own. mani had his basslines made by squire, and as for the other three; nothing more than session musicians.
This is pathetic from all of them to be honest. Squire is a hero
That's true, they're absolute gods. All i meant was, they shouldn't be slating Squire, as though he's a pile of shit, when it was him that carried the Roses.
Ive read about this interview in the roses biographies..very good viewing.. to be fair i doubt squire was intending to leave, considering the effort he put into "second coming" and the tour in '95! It would be wonderfull to see them both talking about the whole roses thing round a table with out arguing.. like the beatles anthology type thing... im sure it must happen.. someone needs to be the go-between and get them together :)
But, as Mani would later say "The magic of the Roses was the power of FOUR". Why him and Ian decided to carry on with musicians who don't make those songs stand out very well was ridiculous. I respect Ian as an artist but sometimes I think he's a bit too arrogant, even my friend Gill who worked at his gig at the Corn Exchange lately, had met him and thought he was a bit cocky.
How sad and bitter. what a way to bury the mystique especially when Squire spoke well of them in his post-departure interviews. Classic Roses said 'nowt in interviews...the non-classic line-up said far too much.
So you've replaced John with a bomber and Reni with a gorilla....good luck!

Mani's never been the sharpest knife in the draw, but here he comes accross as truly retarded! lol

Aziz Ibrahim didnt kill the Stone Roses, but they weren't much good without Squire. Brown's vocal - even worse than usual - killed the Stone Roses.

@Porterjoh Agreed. Aziz could play the tunes, but not only was Ian Brown unable to sing--he was aggressively bad.

If their Reading gig was amazing, and a success, all what they said in this interview could of been justified.
We all know what a shambles it was!!

Yeah its bush that they would trash Squire, but don't belittle the talent from Mani and Ian. There both legends as well!

i prefer squire to aziz but aziz is as good with a guitar in his hands as squire is.

I think John Squire will have to give Ian a call and get the Roses together as he left while Ian stayed on and at least tried and continue things

Corn Exchange in Edinburgh, that is. But Mani is the one most people would rather meet as he's more funny and down to earth.

Absolutely. This is quite sad to watch.
Mani shot his gub off about not liking Zeppelin in another interview too. Oddly enough Primal Scream later recorded a track with Robert Plant.
Mani is something of a hero of mine. I've even met him and came away with a good impression of him but he shouldn't do interviews when he's coked.
