THANK YOU! My track ball on my BB Curve, started acting up. I could go horizontal, but not vertical. I thought it was ruined, had nightmares of dealing with my carrier to get it fixed. Followed your directions, cleaned it out.  Found a tiny dust hair causing all my misery. Now it works like new!

i kinda fucked up my trackball of my blackberry 8100, i was wondering, how cud i fix it as it doesnt work at all ?

ALSO, as a tip to make this mod not-so-perminant. (incase you have to send it for warranty, they will try to say this voids the warranty.)

Take a bit of clear scotch tape. colour that. Cut it REALLY small. (i used tweezers for this part) put the tiny piece of tape over the LED. This way you get the same colour, AND you can change it later if you dont like it, or get bored of it.

You can also do that but its a pain in the ass.

I traded my Pearl and and had to wipe off the pink and what I did was dip a q-tip in nail polish remover and squeezed excess off and the pink came right off and it all came off too. The nail polish did not hurt the phone in any way either.

you can use 98% alcohol to remove the marker

the software does not work on the 8130.

The 8130 only has 1 colourless LED, whereas the 8100 (i think this is the only model) came with more colours of LED therefore you can use software to change it.

just download color pearl and do it with sofware

That would be so much more simple but applications like Color Pearl only work on the 8100 and possibly the 8110 (I forgot).

I just wanted to say this was a great video. HOWEVER, When I removed my trackball, the "lightbulb" icon was pointed UP not DOWN.

Dont know if that makes any difference to anyone but I would suggest NOT making sure its pointing DOWN when you replace it, BUT INSTEAD, taking note of the direction its facing when removing it and putting it back the same way.

Though by the way it looks to work, I doubt it'll make any difference.

Not for the newer Blackberrys, unfortunately. That software only works on the 8100 model because it has four colored LEDs whereas newer models like mine have one.
