Would you happen to know of a place where I could get my theremin fixed? Acatullay i think the problem is in the amp. Both are made by Moog. And as far as i know hes dead.
This is wonderful! The only other time I have ever heard a theremin played is as an instrument to produce the mysterious otherworldly sound that is associated with sci-fi movies, such as "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Thank you for showing me that this instrument can be used to play other types of music, too, such as rock, and in this case, classical!
Hello, thanks for your kind remark. I actually have a copy of the original Fuleihan score, and have played "AT" it "for self amazement" but never performed it. It's way over my head at this point -- it takes someone with the kind of chops that only Clara Rockmore had to pull it off.
wow...I wonder if that's what I've heard in some old movies that I thought were vocals? I think it is a very interesting and definitely mysterious instrument-if I was there, I would clap
Hello, no, that is not my voice. I am playing an electronic instrument called the THEREMIN, which is played without touching - you move your hands around two electromagnetic antennas to produce musical sound.
That is quite a crap comment to put...I happen to be a violinist with plenty of college music training, and this is by far one of the best renditions of "The Swan" I have heard, it is a song I have played myself of the violin...great job, Charles, this is not an easy song even on string instruments, and you pulled it off wonderfully on one of the most difficult instruments to play.
Charles, after meeting you last year in LA with my cousin, Faye, I am so glad I got to hear your play. It seems like a very difficult instrument to play, especially with your left hand. Congratulations on a very fine performance of a difficult song.
CRL, I tip my hat to you. That was an excellent performance. You've come a long way from that infamous first show at Founder's. I'm proud to say that I was there. Thank you for this. Clara would be (is?) proud!
Charlie! Your Theremin video IS beautiful! I've viewed this three times, marvelling at both the instrument, and especially your obvious poise with the instrument presentation... really stunning! Years back I seem to recall someone brought one of these mysterious and hauntingly beautiful instruments to our school for a scientific look into the sounds and how they are produced. I look forward to more from Charlie and his Theremin!
I have a question-- most theremin players I have watched, play the tune with their right hand and use their left hand for volume level. But with you, it looks like your left hand is doing the melody and the right hand is playing the notes, like you're playing invisible keys on a piano. Is this observation correct?
I have a left-handed theremin: I play notes with my left hand and control volume and phrasing with my right. When you see my right hand "playing notes," what I am doing is very slightly and briefly softening the volume when going from note to note. The theremin plays a nonstop "glissando" -- by subtly shading the volume when changing notes, I have found that you can eliminate that sliding sound that always occurs, even when playing very rapidly.
This was shot in the evening, in my living room, with a single and unmoving digital video camera: It's your typical YouTube Amateur Hour fare, meant only for fun and not to be taken too seriously! I played it on my Etherwave Pro theremin (left-handed). (btw, no I was not chewing gum at the beginning! That's a trick of the subdued lighting and the low video resolution. Sorry, but YouTube isn't High Definition - yet...!)
Tim here. I can't believe how ignorant I was of the instrument. I was wating for you to stop conducting and start playing along. LOL. You are incredibly talented. We look forward ot seeing more. 333 Boys

Most likely, that's what it was. Because that's how the theremin tends to sound - like a lady singing off in the distance.

How you do that??Is that your voice? wow! it's amazing!

Hehe, I like it. I heard Swan played on moog on ear training lesson and then found this one ;) .

I'm sorry, but i'm afraid this sounds nothing like The Swan, and you should leave playing it properly to somebody who can. >.>

But then... Go and try yourself ;-)
I think theremin must be more difficult than violine, for you even have nothing to grab! :-D
