You cant play in raised B tuning without restringing your guitar. Dave's taylor is strug in B. In order to play this song you have to use the capo on 7, unless you want to re-string your guitar....This dude is playing it correctly....Rock on
@donniedarkodevotte Same thing with me, except I actually grabbed the thing and started learning. I suggest you pick the thing up, and just google basic guitar chords and their fingering, and how to read tabs. If you like it enough, you might start taking actual lessons =P
yeah, and raised by isn't simply a matter of tuning the strings up. you have to use two sets of strings to do it - pretty sure it involves either two high e strings or two b strings. the low e string is left out
Sounds great, BUT.. Dave does not play this wish a capo. He also does not play in raised B... This is simply the easiest way to play it. But as many know, Dave doesn't use easy chords.
mastmef00 Hey, thank you so much for the great job you did on this video. Let me just say, I'm picky, but you sound really good when you play, plus your instruction was spot on. And I'm so excited that I can now play a Dave Matthews song. I've been trying Gravedigger, but don't have the picking part down. Oh my God, I just saw that you do that one too. Ooh, lucky me! Take it easy.
that's because he has a guitar tuned in raised b. I would too if I had enough money to leave a guitar in raised b for the two songs I know in that key :). Raised b is a bitch for two reasons - 1. not too many songs are written in it and 2. you need two sets of strings to tune a guitar in raised b (because it uses two high e strings, if I'm not mistaken and no low e string)
@aedward33 two things to try - you might try a slicker string brand. I use elixir, for example (nanoweb, light guage, phosphor bronze) and they are much easier to slide on than martin strings, for example, or d'addario. If you use either of these brands, the elixirs will probably feel like a hand version of slip and slide at first. other thing you can do is apply a small amount of lotion to the tips of your fingers on your fret hand - not a lot, the tiniest amount goes a long way.
Man that works wonders. now if I can just get my other two fingers down to make a C cord ill have the whole song thanks to your instructions... YOU ROCK
@mastamef00 "other thing you can do is apply a small amount of lotion to the tips of your fingers on your fret hand - not a lot, the tiniest amount goes a long way."
i think you did a very good job...i tried the stay or leave song you can check out my video under thesassytiger..dave matthews band is a huge inspiration and wow you are talented
Are you in standard tuning? My guitar sounds a lot higher pitched than yours with the capo on 7th. Excellent video tho. Really helpful, I just can't get it to sound like yours.
OMG thank you so much. I have looked all over for someone to teach this and I swear you are the only one and you did it justice my friend. You are awesome. Again, thank you.
funny you should mention it, i actually tried to upload an instructional on satellite last night (believing it would likely be requested sooner or later - i'm actually surprised it hasn't already been requested). the upload evidently failed however and i'm not sure why but i'll try again today.
Excellent instruction and playing. I love to play DMB and you make it so easy to understand. I learned two songs perfectly in one night and will continue till I know them all. Keep up the videos. Thank you for teaching us all.

Damn I wish I knew how to play the guitar. I have a guitar that just sits in my closet, taunting me and my impatience.

should be in standard before capo-ing up, yeah. i don't know, maybe it's my mic or the wood setup on my guitar vs. yours.

@AeonSteampunk It sounds like he might be playing an expensive guitar.
