  • from what the commenting in the beginning come from?

  • Space cobra, i knew that was it

  • Is the video from a specific anime or was it created solely for the music video

  • Anyone know the name of the bands in the promo here, particularly the band playing in front of the ricks under the blue sky? I remember that video, but nit the title of the track or the band.

  • Great guitar solo.

  • This song is great fun on Guitar Hero.

  • Honestly, I think Matthew Sweet has the honor of creating the FIRST anime music video ever. :)

  • Best song in the history of the universe. And this dude was ahead of his time to use anime like that. Brilliant!

  • people like this?

  • @invine If you are talking about the song, then yes, many people like it. Hey, not everyone is going to dig everything. The guy is a great singer-songwriter. In this new day of autotune we could use some more artists like this.

  • .. in a time when a song like this could be #1 anything

  • My ex gf was so lame she couldn't even appreciate this song called "girlfriend"!

  • Thumbs up if think this vid should be in the background of GH.

  • I love the drums in this track....anyone know who the drummer was for this?

  • awesome video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

  • "It's already sold more copies than his last time combined!"

Well, maybe if A&M and Columbia had promoted him more... >.<

  • This is the most 80's thing ever

  • @tylertoon2 except this was from 91

  • @neuroticandroid Well I ment it captures the style of the 80's

  • @tylertoon2 It really doesnt sound anything like the 80s at all. Are you thinking of the 60s? It does have a very heavy 60s vibe.

  • @neuroticandroid

Then again it seemed as the 80's didnt officially end till Nirvana came out with Nevermind that was mid to late 91 if memory serves?

  • 0:07 Thompson Twins, Come Inside! I thought noone ever played that video, and here it is kicking off another video.

  • I love this song but that's probably the funniest music video I've ever seen.

  • GUITAR=ROBERT QUINE...RIP.

  • One of his best!

  • Amazing song! Love this

  • THUMBS UP IF GUITAR HERO 2 BROUGHT YOU HERE!

  • i was 12 when thisw came out. i loved mtv then..nirvana, trees, etc. these songs pull at my heart...the good ol days.

  • MATHEW SWEET

  • Nice song to drive in a lonely way... awesome video... It reminds me the good 90's ...

  • Mathew Sweet should become a member of the Rock N Roll hall of fame. Hands down one of the top artists of the 90's and is still making music that ranks amongst his best. He is getting better.

  • ya, true, after Kurt Cobain passed on, nobody could pick up the crown though many tried and by the last years of 1990's it was all over---enter the poptarts, 'nuff said. Is rock basically dead? Well the smart ones know where to look for achived real rock. Mathew Sweet came on strong with this hit and helped usher in the '90's sound early on. Great late '60's/early '70's sound, excellent fuzz guitar! This could have been a "stealer's Wheel" song, don't know them look them up.

  • proof that the early 90s dominated over the latter 90s

  • @retrostu

I always said myself that I 'stopped' listening to music after 1993 or so...I'm so stuck in the 70's, 80's & early 90's it's not even funny lol!

  • Ah, yes, the *original* AMV...

  • Awesome song it is really put together well.

What is that anime it is machted with?

  • If anyone knows please tell me. Does the girl in this movie die? The way the vid goes makes it look like she does and I want to watch the movie, but not if she dies. I like movies that have happy endings. :)

    Please let me know, anyone.

  • @pacifistattack listen to "don't go" by also by him,

  • @3dogsdesert I listened to "don't go" as you suggested, thanks. The lyrics of that song seem to be him singing to someone that is dead or dying, so that seems to suggest that the woman in this video does die. (I am sad now).

    Good song though.

  • They spelt matthew wrong in the video.

  • do you guys suppose this video singlehandedly started the anime music video AMV trend? its funny that this was actually an official video. back when this came out anime was still somewhat undeground and i just about pooped when i saw this on mtv.

  • what happened to all the good music in the world all there is now is people like justin biber

  • Such a great song, complete with an awesome vid. What the hell has happened to videos today?!

  • Wow. I remember this stuff. Now I know where the White Stripes got the inspiration for their sound from.

  • What a groove. Puts me in mind of some early 70s radio stuff.

Ive always loved his style. Its sweet.

  • I love the bass in this.

  • @StrikeEagel007 This is VERY bad.

  • great melody

  • I'm a girlfriend

  • cool song but bad date

  • White Ford Bronco's 90s Song of the Day 10/15/10

  • This song came out when I was in high school still love it

  • fuckin awesome! I was lucky to see him with Quine live in Athens in 1992.

  • fuckin awesome!

  • thank you for the anime tip you how it up she dies

  • Oh, this feels sooo 90's. I am glad to be born the Year Punk Broke and I'm sure my kids will see this decade as I see the 60s. As in, far-away and magical...

  • song of the day!!!

this is a blast from the past for sure. i remember listening to this in 9th grade so basically 20 years ago- hahah, nice! this video is also testimony to the evolution of music vidoes and "cartoons". we've come a long way!!!!

  • There's a movie being made of this animation and dear God, I hope they use this song...as it seems it's the only thing us Americans know "Space Adventurer Cobra" from....

  • @LaDracul

    Hi friend!

If you like the animation featured in this video, you can easily watch the source material right this very minute. You have the title and the power of the internet at your fingertips. It takes no effort at all. G2G and know the epic that is Space Adventure Cobra.

  • Making love with a cigar in your hand, thats how its done, Clinton style.

  • It's the Ur-AMV.

    Holy shit.

  • i love this album... kinda passed over, when talking about great albums of the '90s.

  • One of my favorite videos of all time... back when music videos mattered. Perfect blend visually and musically (it would have been cool to see the rest of the band though).

  • Its a tragedy that this great song isnt remembered as one of the best rock songs of the 90's.

I just love the back up singers reminds me of the beatles....: )

  • he want to have sex with a cartoon!

  • be nice if Matthew Sweet would hear some of my songs

  • the lead singer looks pissed to me

  • one of the best drum and bass intermissions ever recorded, fer sher

  • Has anyone ever seen Matthew Sweet and Joe Bonamassa in the same place together? They are one and the same!

  • I love how they spelled his name wrong. Jeez...

  • Okay lead singer looks fucking creepy.

  • God I love Cobra, even the new anime series that aired this year.

  • Great guitar riffs in this video, they sound exactly the same in concert when this video came out. I remember seeing them at a venue here in KY in 1998. They blew the crowd away and I am normally a hard core rock fan but Matthew Sweet is in a class all his own.

  • great song n video

  • 90's Rock / Alternative is the greatest genre of music to ever exist.

  • This is so 90's it hurts. lol.

  • Vividly recall the first time I saw that video and remember thinking how much I would like Gibby Haynes needs to spend a few minutes with this guy.

  • cobra = one of the best "movies" ever made

  • I miss the 90's as well. That was a great decade. Too bad Mtv does'nt play videos anymore. The guitar solo on this song rips.

  • that introduction was "SUPERGAY"

  • Space Adventure Cobra. Ahhh, the good old days.

  • didnt he do another version of this video

  • oh i miss the 90s

  • @bilson3000 me too. really feel like i miss them

  • From early 90's

    Cool video, and good song.

  • Music great, pity the clip is bad, but even then had not so much technology as today, sim

  • for the love of god please post the clip of this song on Letterman. Quine killed that night. shattering

  • Earth scorching guitar by Robert Quine. God rest his soul.

  • @bathsheba56 I'd love to play like that!

  • @bathsheba56 He was so sad after the passing of his wife.

  • s was this the first AMV someone got paid for? the only other two vids i know like this are wone sweet used LUM, and KMFDM use some mech show.

  • Anybody know what anime this video is based on?

  • Space Adventure Cobra (the movie). It also used to be a television series and a comic book series.

  • @nuwavghost Thanks for the info. At first he thought he got people to actually animate him fresh material to go in his video.

  • Space Adventure Cobra.

I believe only an alternative pilot episode and the animated movie were dubbed in english. If you speak french though, the whole series was dubbed in french which was fantastic!! Of course there are many fan-made english subtitles for the series too.

  • it's seems like Cobra

  • You know we were all waiting for them to finally make out in the end.

  • sadly i heard this song in gh2 i wish i heard it years b4

  • That's the way most gh's and rb's are. I've known about Dinosaur Jr, L7, Social Distortion and others for years before they got popular because of these games.

  • Same here. Thank God, after I heard alot of songs I like from Guitar Hero, I started looking them up on MY OWN. I felt pitiful to be quite honest.

  • Groovy, baby!

  • The late, great Robert Quine on lead guitar. RIP.

  • Great show, liked the TV show more than the movie that was released here.

  • And the comic's even better than THAT!

  • sadly, I never found it. I looked for a good while too. But finding import manga in the 90s was not nearly as easy as it is these days...

These Naruto/Bleach/One Piece kids of today don't know how easy they have it.

  • I loves me some One Piece... It's such a great story! But anyway; Yes, it IS easy to get. If you know where to look, you can get the chapters a week BEFORE they're printed in their home land. The internet has opened so many doors for so many things!

  • It was even worse if you tried to find a girl that was into anime and manga. I think that I was born about 10 years too soon.

  • I was a girl that was into anime and manga! (and still am) Yeah, during the late 80s and early 90s anime was an underground fandom, you got your tapes out of the back of sci-fi catalogs and such. American anime distribution was pretty much exclusively geared towards the science fiction crowd which seems to be mainly male dominated (in viewership) for reasons I have not fully understood.

You know the only thing I liked out of the 90s was the rock, in terms of music.

  • Space Adventure Cobra, lady is an android. Ha not a very responsive girlfriend but in a fight oh brother!

  • is that the name of this movie? space adventure cobra? please let me know. man it looks like a cool movie.

  • @starsandbarsforever yeah, it is the name of the movie...it was even an anime series, and they even made a new series this year, I am hoping that they continue making more series/episodes...Cobra is awesome!
