The Klon has it's devotees, for sure, but if price/availability are an issue, you may want to try the Throbak Overdrive Boost. VERY-dynamic and does the Klon thing very-well, but is also has killer silicon and sil/germ fuzz & OD sounds. Very-versatile. Plus, you also get those killer Colorsound Overdriver sounds, which I love. Great for Beck, Gilmore, Neil Young, Marc Bolan, etc. If you want leads that cut through any mix, THIS is the pedal. Plus, that master-volume is a big help. Love that one.
i love the klon and its a good demo. but honestly youtube videos sound quality blows ass. so you cant really tell how great the klon is. the sound is sooooo compressed.
just wanted to say I like your type of playing, you dont care about this boring shredding stuff and show some tasteful licks - you are on the right way...
By the way - I tested the Klon also in a shop and I agree- it sounds super, was too expensive for me but is brilliant.
i agree! i wated 6 months for my klon and i thought it sucked.not worth 350 sounded like i was playing with a sock over my guitar.the ts8 blows it away and it's half the price.
the klon sucks! I'VE had evey od pedal put there, using ibanez ts808, blows the klon away.take the extra 200 bucks and 4 months time and have some fun. THE KLON IS A HOAX. WAITING FOR ZENDRIVE TO COME! HOPE ITS THE ONE...
Notice any compressed mid tones with klon as you go from 8:00 to 11:00 or does it retain an openess.
I tried a klon and noticed alot of mids introduced after 9:00. The sweet spot to my ears had gain at about 8:00 and output 11-12 treble to taste. Using strat custom vibrolux set up so tones may be more noticable with strat clean fender amp set up.
Is that a stock les paul? how can it be from 1952, when humbuckers werent even invented until 1955...?

...there must be a hundred pedals that will give that tonal boost and intonation, it's not that special...

no kidding. i have a maxon od808 and its honestly better than the klon at boosting if you just turn up the vol and no gain

You guys seem like quite the tone gurus. Got any vids so that I can check it out?
skydog46 3 years ago
Really? Then why don't you get one, and allow me the Klon?
skydog46 3 years ago
Mark Tremonti uses this pedal. The guy can have whatever gear he wants and he chose this pedal to use with his Mesa Boogie triple rectifiers.
It all depends on how you use it.

those were some sweet licks. klons rule, id get one but i dont have 450 bucks laying around lol. my guitar is barely worth half that

How was the KLON gain set?

Dry wall, spring reverb, noisy humbuckers and alcohol. Whatever. Practices his standard hot licks well?
skwiddjergensen 4 years ago
Alcohol? Haha!!
skydog46 4 years ago
Yeah, I think it's the video camera making the sound gritty in a bad, way. I bet it sounds right in the room, but the video doesn't translate well.
OFR 4 years ago 2
To be honest, I can't really judge the Klon because I don't like the sound of the guitar itself. Those are really harsh humbuckers.
MacReverb2 4 years ago
Yeah, I know what you mean. Those damned harsh original PAF's.....LOL!!!!

Great work Sky Dog! Thanks to you I modified my 1960 Les Paul with Bareknuckles PG Blues pups and it sounds like the original.
Rooster2120 4 years ago
I have a klon too wonderfull pedal..
But it doesn't sound good with humbucker gibi guitar..
Strat+amp fender crunchy with volume sounds 1000 better with the klon than a gibi+marshall tone...
richiepowa 4 years ago
You're nuts!
skydog46 4 years ago
?
I didn't tell ya that so as to do any polemics I've just tell you my opinion ...
richiepowa 4 years ago
sounds like the camera's mic can't handle the volume level of the amp, its peaking and you can't make out the tone well
jaikwillis 4 years ago
An EQ could do something similar. Probably even a Digitech Bad Monkey could do something similar.
BlackRadio 4 years ago
It got a tad bit louder/crunchy and a bit more compressed. A $50 pedal could do something pretty similar.
BlackRadio 4 years ago
Really? Which pedal? Got clips? Video? Love to hear it.
skydog46 4 years ago
A little bit of fatness lol?

Nice Wishbone Ash riffs! I love Blowin' Free! Nice tone.

skydog46 5 years ago
That '52/'57 conversion guitar you have is to die for!! Great tone there!!
dcooper830 5 years ago
there is virtually no difference in tone. maybe a little compression.

Nice Danny. Got one Klon in the mail. Keep it up bro'

Ah. True :p
I had an original tape echo bud, the right one. Forget what it was. But oh well. I'll get it then. Have a demo with it?
