things can evolve with different teachers. To me, and my chow gar, this looks like what we call second form: shaking off the bridge or sarm bo yui kui. The structure is the same, but it is different energy.
@giggletoad this is actually first form. There are two versions, one being white man version, the other (this one) is the traditional. The white man version is a bit more simpler but still has the same principle. This one is THE most important to learn and master. I havnt trained in a while but i can still remember this one.
@skatking83 racism from chinese society can prevent gui lo from learning a few forms, but proficiency as a taoist fighter is bought with bruises, bloody faces, sweat, and time.
Wow. I'm here because of Avater: The Last Air Bender and I can really see the resemblance between Southern Praying Mantis and Earth Bending. The show did a great job in capturing the style.
Isn't the guy in the video at master level? with a red sash... unless we're at his level or higher, who are we to say what's wrong or right about the way he played the form.
The Sue Tins only trained with Si Gung Henry Sue until Blue belt, so I dont know who else they trained with to achieve their master level.
I could say the same thing, why not go see si gung in brisbane and train with his masters. Im not trying to make this into a contest just pointing out that while I can see the form in what he's doing, it is nothing like what any of the masters I know would instruct.
I appreciate the 'Non Competition', it takes a man with great integrity to debate Kung Fu School Performance level in a civil manner. We shall have to talk more about the topic.
I am currently training this very form, and I feel that in your video you show very little energy, it just seems like you just "place" your hands in the proper spot and thats that...
I understand you do not incorporate internal energy, but it seems rushed and very superficial.
"hi jamesbkfu, thanks for the invite to put up a vid. At this stage I have none to upload, but I do have 9 years training experience and am more than happy to discuss tong long kung fu theory and application with you until I do have footage."
You ignorant nut sack if your as good you make your self out to be, kungfujb my challenge to you is to go to there school and show then how it's really done. 9 years is that all! keep your gobb shut you might learn something
kungfujb. Experience has shown that there's generally an inverse relationship between one's self promotion & one's actual ability. I've seen many promoting their abilities as black/red belts coming into a class but have seen very few who have felt the same way on the way out. The invitation has been left open for you to back your 9 years experience. You can talk theory & application all you like. Back yourself & not the fingertips that have been tapping away on that keyboard.
I think Kato2710 has got it right. I know a purple sash in this discipline and he is one of the most humble guys i know. He openly admits he is afraid at the outset of any confrontation and this guy is a moving weapon who has seen more action than 10 people would see in their lives combined. The only people that are head-strong and supremely self-confident are the inexperienced. Experience and wisdom tends to mute robust claims of personal or art supremacy.
once again, no energy output and looks like part of yellow and green belt level 1 from Henry Sue's southen preying mantis but played in a bad way...!!
If you study his breathing patterns you can actually see that he is incorporating a fair bit of chi in the exercise. Chi is about breathing techniques, and i'm pretty sure i can hear him breathing. His movements are nice and sharp as well.
Well said in an odd way - a lot of this does incorporate breathing, to increase basics like abdominal strength and the ability to unleash power without 'summoning' power, if you get what I mean.
Essential, similar to a boxer's breathing patterns.

@Hannakate93 Your muscles might be bigger but without techniques it doesn't mean anything except for brute force
