@ThisVictorious1 : Well Spoken Victorious! I see groups like De La Soul, Tribe, Leaders of the New School, BDP, Public Enemy; as being the Gen X's answer to Sly & Family Stone, George Clinton, even James Brown during the Black Panther era. The late 80's - early 90s era of hip-hop was a precursor to OCCUPYING the music industry will intelligent, creative and sagacious social commentary. Where are the Gen Y equivalents?! Unfortunately they are 'in the club, tryin' to get it up'.
@FeliciasWorld no, they're not in the club... it's just no one wants to listen to them because every one else is in the club trying to get it up... or at least listening to the simplest most watered down form of music ever... shit like chris brown and pitbull international love....i dare you search for it and listen, its below terrible
An amazing album, 3 Feet High and Rising... literally changed my perspective on music when I was 15 years old... but oddly had some moments in which perhaps the 'positive' feel of the album went too far; i.e. parts of the album that were really crappy. with a lot of corny skits lol; 'Potholes,' 'Buddy' were brilliant while 'Tread Water' and 'Take it Off' were just stupid
@ogecirtnecc The silliness of the positive hip-hop at the time was an opposite reaction to how dark gangsta was getting. Listen to something like Da Lench Mob's "Freedom Got an AK" to see how far hardcore went in the early 90s.
Fun song with a GREAT message. I hear it when I wonder how the hell I'm going to go on some days. Thanks, De La Soul! I'm not sure you even know the impact you have on people, but it's great, long lasting and POSITIVE! Much love to y'all! ;)
This is the kind of a song that people should play at a party. It has a precise upbeat and downbeat during the chorus. Tread Water! This should be a mix of their album. I wish they had a instrumental version of this song. I love it.
"Always look to the positive and never drop your head For the water will engulf us if we do not dare to tread So let's tread water" "See I look past all my worries, which is something you must do Though you're fed up, throw your head up With this advice ffrom me to you And that's to tread water" Looking back now I never appreciated the positivity of this song, I was too busy bobbing my head....Thanks De La for the breath of fresh air!!!! Love this!!
@LuvsNeoSoul302 You want to be funny about this then go ahead because I don't care what anybody has say something negitive about this song because I love it too.
haha this song kinda makes u think of them old ass cartoons u could watch every saturday morning... those were da days yo. wtf happened to hip hop man? :"(
I had an insufferably tedious $4.50/hr job in the summer of '89- couldn't have made it through the week without my walkman; I had no choice but to 'tread water' (thank God for De La and Slick Rick)
@ElConquistadorNo1 I remember those days... I couldnt live without my walkman either... the worst thing to happen was for either my batteries to die ,then the music would play slow as hell... Or my tape to get caught up in the player and i would have to get a pencil to fix it!!!
many of the conservative gathering, be it the Tea Parties or any other protests against this administration and its policies, have been met with angry, liberal counter-protesters who have attacked, sometimes brutally, conservatives. And, just like the Nazis of the 1930s, the cops ignore these brutal attacks and the perpetrators who commit them, while attempting to turn the blame on the conservative who was minding his or her own business before being attacked by a rabid, liberal goon.
the batmobile has caught a flat once, in the original batman movie with adam west. tush eht lleh pu doesnt mean anything , its shut the hell up backwords , there is only one strand of wheat in a shredded wheat biscut, its just wrapped around itself a bunch of times, and finally , THERE ARE NO FEATHERS ON A PERDUE CHICKEN!!! :)
Many did not get the gist of this song...it was about surviving the negative aspects of the life and how you have to tap into your inner strength...you may not know how to swim but you can tread water...all problems can be SOLVED!!
The fish part makes me laugh every time. I was really afraid that there would be something secret, like a drug reference, but there isn't; I could teach my nieces and nephews what good music is now!
I actually listened to this album in walking to and from school with my SONY WALKMAN!!! May "Sony Walkmans keep us walking '!

Lost my copy of this, just found it per chance today at a store I was at. For only €4, while all the Lil Wayne shit costs like €18.
Anyway, I bought it, this album is easily in my top 10 or 15 of all time.
