Nothing against Boxing, but it's only a fraction of what goes on in the Octagon. 9/10 A striker against a submission grappler ends up in a takedown and tapout. It`s not as easy to knockout a guy that`s going straight for your legs as these boxing fans might think. Best defense against a takedown is either sprawl or a well placed flying knee. Unless they can learn to do that, they don`t have much of a chance, even Mike Tyson.

I think there's room for many differrent sports. Why can't we enjoy both boxing and MMA? I'm an MMA fan foremost, watched every pride and ufc event ever plus a lot from the other promotions.
I absolutely love kickboxing and muay thai, K-1 grand prix finals are an official holiday in my home and I love watching pacman box. I'm sure others will add football and even golf to their list of sports they love. Athletes that excel is what excite us, no matter the sport.
also one last thing. boxing has evolved to its apex as a sport. for the past 30 years the top fighters started young as kids or had champion bloodlines that brought them into the training very early. even the most accomplished MMA athletes have not yet close to 20 years trianing in pure MMA as we see it today. wait a couple more decades when the average pro mma fighter cultivates the skills of his sons and newphews and theyre freinds and it will be a spectacle to behold.
pro boxing will have to cater to regions of the world like southeast asia, eastern europe, and latin american countries like mexico (basically any latin country above brazil) on the amateur development level in order to compete with MMA for qaulity of athlete. Look at the retired boxers now who are coming to terms with MMA as a legit sport instead of making homophobic remarks. As much as MMA is a tough guy sport boxing was rooted in mysogonism and thats becoming taboo so they are losing.
@curtmastor take for example if MMA was an option to tyson in nyc as a youngster. he would of probably been afraid to be called a fag and martial arts wasnt something black kids got involved in. now its a different world were typical suburbanite sports are becoming available to inner city youth and in 20 years youll see the floy mayweathers and oscar delahoys in an octagon. the only hope for boxing is find for paquous and klitchkos of the world in impovershed countries where boxing is around.

the thing with boxing is that when ur boxing it leaves u completely open to takedowns because u dont have to deal with that shit in boxing so if ur in mma and u do boxing ur not gonna be boxing like u would in a boxing match so it doesnt give u that much of an advantage on ur feet all though they are alot faster punchers

I think there's room for many differrent sports. Why can't we enjoy both boxing and MMA? I'm an MMA fan foremost, watched every pride and ufc event ever plus a lot from the other promotions.
I absolutely love kickboxing and muay thai, K-1 grand prix finals are an official holiday in my home and I love watching pacman box. I'm sure others will add football and even golf to their list of sports they love. Athletes that excel is what excite us, no matter the sport.

also one last thing. boxing has evolved to its apex as a sport. for the past 30 years the top fighters started young as kids or had champion bloodlines that brought them into the training very early. even the most accomplished MMA athletes have not yet close to 20 years trianing in pure MMA as we see it today. wait a couple more decades when the average pro mma fighter cultivates the skills of his sons and newphews and theyre freinds and it will be a spectacle to behold.

pro boxing will have to cater to regions of the world like southeast asia, eastern europe, and latin american countries like mexico (basically any latin country above brazil) on the amateur development level in order to compete with MMA for qaulity of athlete. Look at the retired boxers now who are coming to terms with MMA as a legit sport instead of making homophobic remarks. As much as MMA is a tough guy sport boxing was rooted in mysogonism and thats becoming taboo so they are losing.

@curtmastor take for example if MMA was an option to tyson in nyc as a youngster. he would of probably been afraid to be called a fag and martial arts wasnt something black kids got involved in. now its a different world were typical suburbanite sports are becoming available to inner city youth and in 20 years youll see the floy mayweathers and oscar delahoys in an octagon. the only hope for boxing is find for paquous and klitchkos of the world in impovershed countries where boxing is around.

Its sad but the days of the community making a point of pride by the local contender or champion are over. Boxing clubs are closing up left and right. Im about to sign up for one becuase I enjoy the training of boxing and would have to travel almost 40 minutes to a gym that has any experience with training golden glove level amateurs or pros. almost any serious MMA gym has put atleast a couple fighters into amatuer organizations fighting at sizeable venues.

the thing with boxing is that when ur boxing it leaves u completely open to takedowns because u dont have to deal with that shit in boxing so if ur in mma and u do boxing ur not gonna be boxing like u would in a boxing match so it doesnt give u that much of an advantage on ur feet all though they are alot faster punchers

I think a boxer who started young, perfected his skills as a striker and decided while still young to give MMA a try could dominate. No disrespect to the sport but they should just call it Jiu Jitsu since that's what it usually ends up being. As a former boxer whose sparred with MMA fighters and watches UFC frequently, I have to say that most of the 'boxing' in MMA is amateur at best.

In the last round when both fighters are exhausted they pretty much always resort to boxing whether its pretty or not both fighters are throwing bombs and this is the time i believe that boxers will have that edge over MMA trained fighters because of the technique involved to throw straight hard punches...

ok first of all, just cause you know how to throw a punch, doesn't mean you know how to box, most mma fighters can't really box, they can throw alot of punches and powerful ones at that, but boxing is also about avoiding another's punches and looking for openings... im a huge mma fan, so don't get me wrong, but watch a boxing match for a change and see the difference...

If Tyson went MMA for 1 fight, it would be like mixing Kimbo Slice, James Tony, and Brock Lesners first UFC fight all in one. If the MMA fighter can get close enough to tyson he will probably win, but Tyson knocked out guys who were the best at taking a punch, and did it in a gross way. He was the Fedor of boxing, his punches came out of nowhere and ended people.

well of course a boxer can compete in mma,just look at silva.The main thing that a boxer has an advantage in mma is his or her strikes but apply jiu jitsu and muai thai training and in due time you got one hell of a fighter,but it would take a few years of training and experience for that boxer to even be considered a well rounded and tough fighter.So if you put it in perspective,the answer is a definite yes.
