Looking at the wireframes, I don't see why they've called this "Tessellation". Tessellation would mean that the polygons are constant. What I'm seeing in Tessellation demos are fractal wireframes. They just get less complex as you move away, more complex as you zoom in.

Am I making sense? Could an Uber-Tech clarify please?

very true. Ubi is developing for the consoles (mainly xbox) and then porting those games to a pc and PS3 version. This worked when the 360 was still new but PC's can be upgraded very easily, consoles can't. Which means that modern pc's don't have to work that hard and the gfx stink compared to PC based games. I've got an XFX 5850 and I'd like to use it.. come on ubi -.-

Even the best cards on the market average 40-70 FPS. DX11 takes a big performance hit on this game. Especially when you have the light on with alot of enemies around.

AvP was an awesome demonstration of DX11. Love it for that. Pity the game lasted a few short hours in single player mode and totally sucks for multiplayer compared to TF2. BC2. The game is one great tech demo, but thats about it. You cant even use cover, duck etc as a marine. A step backwards in terms of gameplay for me. But I liked it for the single player atmosphere. Just feel ripped off by the lack of content.

I have 5770 and c2d 5400@3.6ghz 4gb ram on win7 64 and run this game full dx11 everything maxed and 4x software aa. I get 40-60 fps after the 1.1 steam update and ati 10.3 pre release ccc. Awesome fun! Great gfx card!

It doesn't matter if you've got a DX11 card in XP it still will only run in DX9 mode. The code path is too complex for XP to handle.

You guys can run dx 11 if you got a dx10 driver, it'll act as a dx 10 instead of using dx 9. Works for me and i finally found a new supported file to play avp SLi, it's supported now at evga site. Great a graphics especially shadows and evironment but the only bad part is the lighting, it's so bad. The HDR and the glow. It's overdone and wrong.

@Dfrogman you cannot force a card to run in a mode that has features it cannot handle. thats like putting dishes in a washing machine. DX10 and DX11 are completely different tins of paint and cannot be tricked into thinking one is the other.

@Dfrogman it will only run in what your card and OS are capable of. if your running windows 7 and have an ATI 5***card then yes, it will run in DX11. if you are running vista or xp, it does not matter if you have a DX11 card you still will not be able to play in DX11 because only windows seven supports this.

so just to clarify

windows 7+HD5***=AVP DX11

Vista/XP=AVP DX9

Dirt 2 looks good but most racing games do, Battle Forge has too much of a cartoony art style to show off DX11 & STALKER was a big disappointment. I can't see how AVP won't look even better in DX11 after all these tessellation videos.

I'm getting sick of ppl complaining about graphics like little children. Glad some ppl here appreciate how far we've come. I mean even the DX9 demo for AVP looks great. There is so much detail all pulled together by an awesome lighting system. I think all 3 character models hold a lot of awesome detail with a perfect art style to match but I must admit all the DX11 games seen so far are not very impressive for what they boast about DX11.

well you can see where crysis is going. photo realism THAT IS MATE and that's the future of gaming. Anyhow my HD3870X2 handles this game very well at 1080p the only problem is my system ram which is ocz 4gbs but with the 32bit limitation my system crashes. Gonna install 64bit windows 7 i guess.

AvP runs great on my 5770 except for a couple of glitches here and there where the game will stutter when i'm not even doing anything lol.

yeah stuttering happens to me also but when i switch characters like after completing a mission for the next mission i choose predator the game does stutter for quite a while and runs smooth. Odd

I think PC gaming is percived to be over-priced.

However, when you think about it, most people have a pc anyway, so you can discount that cost from the final build.

If you just put £500 worth of parts in a pc instead of £300 whhen you build it, you'd get a much improved gaming experience over a £300 pc and an xbox

it's not expensive to get the kit together for a decent mid range pc though. with a hd5770 (dx11 card) you'll be set back about £300-£350 with a quad core if you built it yourself. So only £50-£100 more than a ps3 with much (much much) cheaper games too!

Not neccessary true. Consoles does only have 1 type of hardware, while on PC you have litteraly hundreds of different hardware types. In short: on a console, the game developer can optimize the performanze to perfection, while on PC they can't optimize as much because of all the differenet hardware.
