I hate this song being sung with a butchers apron in the video.. The flag flown as they murderd tho wounded at Culloden.. Yes they Did Murder countless wounded and surrenderd men
Total contradiction for the tattoo to play this. Most of the regiments with museums in Edinburgh castle were involved in the massace of Culloden and one even has a display showing artefacts with a line "until the rebellion was effectively put down" - Effectively butchered!
Highlands/Lowlands - two distinct cultures. The Scottish Tattoo storyline in the show started at Culloden and worked backwards to tell the positive story of the successes and reasons for the rising at Glenfinnan. Roses of Prince Charlie was very apt, when played.
@TheScottishTattoo Sorry your wrong but I feel you know this already.. There were thousands of lowlanders fighting for Charlie, and some French and some English.. but Jacobite and Unionist do not marry in any contex.. it is Crass to include this rendition
The show seeks to inform and entertain a mixed audience. The storyline, which runs through the first half of each show, is Scottish history from a 'Scottish/Highland' perspective.
You will note the flag used is the original 'Union Jack'. This was the fdlag of the time - like it or not, it has its place in history.
Too many paid lip service to the Jacobite cause, but when push came to shove, they were unwilling to fight for the cause. Nothing has changed.

You are right, but it's safe now to sing romantically about the past because there will never be another Stuart rising.
BillDFC 2 years ago
There may not be a Steward rising but more than a few are afraid of Scottish Independence and would see such displays ended.
The same people who fought so hard against devolution.

Afraid...canna wait! Scotland and no Union!

I didn't mean you, Bill. Was just responding to your comment.
Many DO fear independence and will do whatever they can to see that it doesn't happen. But it will!

@JeannieTomlin Why is "Steward" used here in stead of "Stuart?" Am I missing a joke or what?
EMesaros 2 years ago
It was merely a typo. I meant to type the correct Scottish spelling of the name of the royal family which is Stewart.
JeannieTomlin 2 years ago
@EMesaros OH! I get it! I wonder where I got that totally bogus spelling of Stewart? Who know!

Nothing compared with the corries version, especially with that stupid Union flag in the way.

Right you are as usual, BonnieBlueFlag1314.

Funnily enough the Highland regiments mentioned here DO NOT mention Culloden as a battle honor!
Guilt at turning on your own?

One hopes so!

Nothing on the Corries version.

I detect a certain irony in the presence of that flag.
