Because they COULDN'T. This is Cortot at his best. He was an absolute ORIGINAL akin to Chopin, himself. We will never see his like again, because we have become enslaved to COMPETENCE --- accuracy and speed --- and have, therefore, desensitized ourselves to the rapturous joy of TRULY making MUSIC.
Most of us are so afraid of error, we've STERILIZED ourselves and banished passion.
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I have listened to many recording and this is by far the most interesting interpretation. There is nothing to match it in terms of listening to hidden melodies, variety, and pedalling. It is superlative in typically 'imperfect' Cortot fashion. Thanks again, Genaro.
